Ben Stokes’ innings the best I've ever seen - Mitchell Johnson | 2019 Ashes

  • ESPN’s Melinda Farrell speaks with former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson after Ben Stokes put on a masterclass in batting to pull off a spectacular England victory in the third Ashes Test at Headingley. Johnson admires how Stokes was able to stick to his game plan with the bat, culminating in the allrounder partnering with tailender Jack Leach to cross the line on Day 4 and feels Australia’s bowling lineup were searching too hard for a wicket with the new ball. Johnson also discusses how England can build on their momentum and how Australia can pick themselves back up in the hunt for the Urn.

maybe the most remarkable stat from this test match is that the last wicket partnership of england's 2nd innings was bigger than their whole first innings score. i'm still trying to get my head around that

In my personal opinion, it was Sir Stokes day and everything worked very well for him and his partner, and they used their abilities in the best way that was possible at that time.
I recommend An OBE for Mr Stokes.
He lifted the game cricket through his clean cricket without fixing allegations.
Both the Batsmen deserves pat on the Back. Good Job 👍 Done ✅.

Stokes said he inside edged the LBW which wasn't detected with the 4 reds, but surely this would have been found if reviewed, so he wouldn't have been out? Surprised this isn't being mentioned more...

    Who can play long innings
    He is a great finisher
He is good in all formats
Who can bowl 140 kph consistently. One of the best innings I have seen while playing under pressure.

I’ve been looking at the LBW call, and I’m quite confident that DRS got it wrong and it was a lot closer than it seemed. It didn’t account for the ball hitting the front of the pad and assumed it was spin. Definitely not bad umpiring, it wasn’t as clear as DRS showed it to be.
