5 Things You Can Get Delivered to Make Your Life Easier music:
"The Show Must Be Go”
Title: what can you get delivered?
Me: All the things!!!!
Same
:D
dido, we should have a secret handshake already
"There's an app for that . . . "
Wait...people can actually UNCONSCIOUSLY shift between tasks??? How? Where can I get this wondrous ability?
Maybe we can have that delivered as well 😂
That has always been my biggest issue.
Yes, is this related to hyper focusing? Please lets have a discussion on transitions, task switching. Transition songs like Barney's "clean un, Clean up" song? Rituals?
with practice!!! Supposedly if you keep at it, eventually it gets easier!
Hey let me know when you find out. kthxbai :)
The laundry part reminded me of a Mitch Hedberg joke.
"This jacket is dry clean only. Which means it's dirty."
RIP Mitch 💔
@@DK3000AD ^this
That's a very funny joke. I literally laughed out loud
This might be a odd one but it's worth knowing. You can have a veterinarian come to your house. Especially if you have a pet that is at the end and needs to be put to sleep. This is sometimes a gentler option. They will also take the body. Allowing you and any other pets time to say goodbye and be at home to grieve.
We did this when our dog left us. In the middle of his family, at home, at peace.
I'd chose this option any time because the "dealing with emotions" part hits hard in situations like this.
It's critical in these cases to make sure the other animals have time to process that their pack member is dead.
In a friend's case, their partner had their dog put down while my friend was out for an event, and the vet took the body away _without the other dog sniffing or seeing their family member's body._ That pupper ran away a dozen times because they were trying to find and rescue their lost pack member. No closure.
My family had an at-home euthanization, and the pack member got to sniff after the injections finished, and she had her closure for when the body was taken.
It can be easy to overlook for some, so I felt it was worth saying.
TL;DR if a pet dies, let pack members get confirmation and closure, or they may run away on a fruitless rescue.
When the time comes this is the way we'll go.
Wow, I didn't know / think about that!
@@MegaKhelditia Very good point. I actually let my family know that if I went before my "baby", that they should bring him to the funeral home so he could "see" that I didn't just abandon him.
Definitely recommend. Vet at home services are so helpful, especially for anxious pets who don’t like vet environments.
1: Same-day groceries
2: Toiletries
3: Laundry pickup service (People will do your laundry)
4: Meds
5: Help (a maid, somebody who builds your IKEA furniture, a chef, etc)
AS SOMEONE WITH ADHD AND LUPUS delivery services and tech that is disability friendly has been absolutely life saving! Get them groceries delivered! Get your prescriptions delivered! If you don’t have the spoons for regular things don’t waste them running errands other people can do for you.
Thankyou for the reminder about spoons
Me too Sarah! Thank you
I LOVE the spoons concept. It helps me feel less bad about when I run out of them. It helps me remember it's not a moral failing. Nobody had infinite spoons!
Great reference Eto the spoon theory.
Thank you for low-key reminding me to put my clothes in the dryer.
Your comment helped remind me to get mine out of the dryer. Thank you!
lol
Daniel Murphy
I know, I waiting for the reminder to breath.
Seriously not kidding. I tossed in my sheets and blankets about 2 hours ago. I think...
Yeah this comment literally reminded me to take out my washing. Just in time! Thanks haha
Hey Jessica, I kind of owe it to your channel for helping me discover the reason behind some of my difficulties in life. Everything you talked about in your videos seems to be an exact description of my life. It led me to get tested and diagnosed with ADD (literally got diagnosed today!) and I’m kind of relieved to know that I’m not just and idiot, because sometimes I honestly felt like it. So I want to thank you and wish you the best of luck with everything.
This comment made my day. I am not yet diagnosed but my whole life is a perfect definition of what ADHD is, but I am afraid if I am just lazy. Well, atleast that's what my toxic dad says 🙂
@@devadathandevan7755 hope you're doing better now!
I buy soap and deodorant in half-year supplies! Sure it makes for full cupboards but I NEVER run out. Which I used to. A lot.
Yes!!! Me too! Best idea ever 😍. Thank you for sharing
There is an app called, omnicalculator, try it out. It will tell you how much toothpaste you need to buy for a year based on what you input for example. Try it out, it's really cool. (Also I am not a sponsor, just love saving money)
Did you know that your soap bars will last longer if you let them dry first? When you buy them, they are full of bubbles inside and use the bar faster. If you let them dry, the bubbles will go away and your soap will last longer. Trick from my late father...
I buy soap, deodorant, Dawn, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste/brushes, etc. to last me over a year. I hate shopping and this also gives me a sense of security for some reason.
I use deodorant salt sticks, they work great with no residue and last for a bit over a year per stick for me :)
I should really start doing that
That is great information. Unfortunately, in my area, VERY small town, USA, not much delivery. Some stores will, however, pull the food do all you have to do is drive there and pick it up. They will even bring it to the car. It has saved me so much on impulse shopping because I only get what is on my list.
You continue to be a bright beacon for those of us who sometimes feel lost. Keep up the great work.
Target and Cub where I live will do this I'm pretty sure they also have delivery too, via the app in the video or some other similar service.
@@Dragontongue18 Cub Foods? Haven't heard that name since I left Illinois...
Walmart does this. I save a fortune by not going in the store. Free if you spend minimum $35 on your grocery order. I buy the non-grocery stuff at the same time. They bring it all out and load it, too. Albertsons and Smith's have something similar, but it isn't free.
I do this! Especially with target! I find it’s way easier without having to spend too much money and is still super adhd brain friendly.
I do some of this already and have felt shame about 'waste of money' and the 'Lazy Factor' - which kept me from reaching out to handymen and housecleaning. I feel my experience has been suitably validated by this video so I'll be looking into alternatives.
The coordinating my schedule to be there will be the biggest factor in pulling it off.🤞🏾
Guest Krizan Think about it like this - people hire accountants to do taxes. They don’t feel shame about not doing it themselves - they call an expert!
This is how I think about it:
If I could do it regularly and well, it wouldn't need to get done.
When I had someone come to my house and clean twice a month it was the best ever. I am going to do it again. It is SO MUCH mental space you just don't have to worry about.
This is BRILLIANT! I use Amazon for so much. I am often picked on or called the "Take Out Queen" by my family. And THANK YOU for explaining why I forget about my laundry! I don't mind doing it, but I do forget about it or get distracted! Your videos are lifesavers! I just shared this video with my mom and husband.
Thank you so much for this 😭 I experience so much shame around this and it's so empowering to hear that it's not just being lazy or unnecessarily anxious ❤️
Rebekah Bryant Inman Girl I am not even ADHD and do some of these things! Don’t feel shame! First, saving money is awesome. No shame in that. Second, just having the tasks done, no matter who did them, is an accomplishment and worth being proud of yourself about. If there’s a service out there that helps, use it. There’s a reason the service exists... because there’s a demand for it! That means loads of other people use these services too! No shame in it!
A "wall of shame" for me would be a photo of my laundry on any wall - if I had a maid clean up a way so I can actually reach a wall to pin that photo there.
I feel you.
We're still both awesome people
Thank you for calling these suggestions “accommodations” and not something like hacks or shortcuts. I didn’t know how much I needed to hear it until I heard someone say it.
I've been trying to justify hiring a maid for years now and always talk myself out of it, but yeah, why not? This cleaning thing is never going to be something I handle on the regular, I've tried every trick in the book of both life and ADHD and it always falls waaaay behind. And I think I should look into task rabbit now and then as well.
You are really good at doing one thing, and somebody else is really good at doing the thing you are bad at! Do the thing you are good at and don't feel bad at paying someone to the thing they are good at!
My mom is a non-ADHD person in a family of ADHD people and she swears one of the best things you can do for yourself is have a maid service. She finds that she's more likely to be tidy and get things done if she knows she has support from someone. It goes from a luxury to self care.
Sure it'd mean not only convenience but providing employment and $$ for someone so if you can afford it I'd say go for it!
I have ADHD but I started helping other people clean & organize their houses, which eventually turned into being a productivity coach, and I love it!
I am surprisingly good at helping others. I'm still terrible at helping myself, though. But I keep trying, hopefully I get it together one of these days.
It does feel weird to help other people w their procrastination issues & "wall of awful" situations, considering how much I struggle with those things myself.
Recently diagnosed at 30 and am about to go see a psychiatrist for the first time. I think the anxiety/overwhelm from that along with being validated by this video was too much. SO. MANY. TEARS. Thank you for creating this tribe and helping me feel not so alone.
💞 It's a paradigm shift, but you can do it!
I finally started watching this channel after procrastinating for months. It's really good! :D
Jessica is awesomeeeeee and her hubby too
@@Amazistringsmusic ex...
i am watching it since a long time and start some time ago to procrastinate again. I knew it better but it feels so hard to write an important email/letter
Yeah I love it! When i found out about it I went into hyperfocus and watched her 2years worth of content in like a week 😂
Welcome to the tribe
I get my medication delivered. I find it's easier with a small, local pharmacy instead of a major chain in Canada. Support small businesses! My local pharmacy may be 5 blocks away... but i don't drive, it's a lifesaver in the winter, and it's free!
Some CVS stores now have delivery as well.
@@grumpyelderberry3005 Good to know. I use CVS
@@jeff6413 I haven't tried it yet, but they are always letting me know on the app!
Some stores in some areas may not have delivery but offer free pickup. Like Sam's club or Walmart or there also is the scan&go to avoid the checkout line.
I actually really like this. It forces me to get out of the house. I do wonder if it is possible to tip the person who did the shopping, though.
@@esperanzaa7381 not at Walmart or Sam's club. They have a no gratuity policy. (I used to work at Sam's club)
Our Walmart got rid of scan and go I loved that
Walmart has an online purchase and delivery option: but they treat their staff like slaves so why support them?🤷♀️
I work at Target and we have a drive-up service and a delivery service (I think the delivery is done through a 3rd party company though).
7:19 just made me burst into tears. I'm always acknowledging the problems but never doing anything to fix them, like they'll just go away by themselves
NessaOfDorthonion every. Single. Video of how to adhd I watched the first 1.5 years I worked on my adhd made me burst into tears at some point. EVEN IF the entire vid didn’t speak to me, there was always a point. Anyway- you’re not alone in feeling this way! It’s a tough feeling and cycle, but it can get better :)
In Denmark you can get groceries delivered as well! It costs anywhere from 3 to 10 Euros per delivery, depending on the time of the day - but hey, you don't have to tip for the delivery!
Oh man we started using grocery delivery a couple months ago on a consistent basis. Game changer. We save money because we do not come home with extras because you know....distractions and oooo that's on sale-itis. Plus I build the list as the week goes so less is forgotten. Love the auto-order option on Amazon Prime as well! Granted you have to remember to take the vitamins you have on auto order so you do not end up with 10 bottles of B5! ha ha ha It too provides a discount so you do save money.
Hey Brain!! So I need to pick yours for a sec. I just saw one of your videos and it totally completely BLEW. MY. BRAIN. *explosion sound* It was the video about procrastination anxiety and how to win. I mean, first off...I just can't describe to you how emotional that video made me. I've been recently diagnosed with ADHD at 32 years old, only realizing there was a mental problem about ten years ago when I was responsible for more than just myself. These last ten years have been absolutely and completely debilitating to me, and have caused severe depression, suicidal thoughts, so much hurt, pain, job loses back to back, and stress in my marriage. I've been SEARCHING for answers, and found none. Until I was diagnosed and happened on your channel and saw that video. It explained...EVERYTHING...that was the trigger for my brain to procrastinate. You have...well you probably do so...NO IDEA how much of a mind blowing exploding eruption that was to me.
But...
That's only half my problem. When I hit procrastination anxiety, my mind shuts off of whatever I'm overwhelmed, bored, or annoyed at, and absolutely LATCHES onto something else more interesting (hyper focus). I can't control it, I can't force myself to do the other task, even if I want to. My mind just won't let go. And then creates a destructive deadly loop for me: PA (Procrastination Anxiety) --> HF (Hyper Focus) --> PA --> HF --> PA --> HF --> PA --> HF-->etc. etc. This 'loop' as I call it will go on and on and on for about two months, until I finally get a break of freedom and look back at the last two months. I get severely depressed, stressed, can't think, anxiety, because I realize how useless and unproductive two entire months of my whole life have been...nothing in those two months was completed or successful...ever.
So I need to ask you, can you tell me how to overcome hyperfocus AND procrastination anxiety? If you can help me fix this problem...then you're a god among (wo)men, just...wow...I'm already blown away by your other video, just how much it opened my mind. It's like believing the world is two dimension and then discovering that it's actually three dimensional. Like believing the world is flat and then realizing that it's round. It's so mind boggling to me that it's making me cry, and I don't do that often. FINALLY, an answer to the pain...FINALLY freedom!!
I’m just so thankful to have you in my life. My adhd affects my everyday life and it makes me feel so alone. Like nobody I know struggles with the things I do but seeing you with adhd and talking openly about it makes me feel a lot less alone. You’re doing great things 🌺💓
I don't have any issues with shopping, it's getting off of my duff and getting out the door to the store that gives me fits.
TN Frank So you need a teleportation service.
@@phoebebaker1575 Not sure if that'd even help. I'd procrastinate about getting into the teleporter. LOL.
SAME. Once I'm actually at the supermarket it's not so bad, but sometimes I literally sit there staring at my socked feet for like 20 minutes trying to make myself muster up enough executive function to put on shoes and leave the house 😭
Honestly, I love your channel so much. your last send off telling us how our challenges are real brought tears to my eyes. I'm just so used to being yelled at or shamed for not being able to get simple tasks done, and I could just feel how genuine and supportive you were. Like you care so so much, it's beautiful! Thank you so much for this channel. It's helped me so much. Love you
I love online ordering and pick up for my groceries. I live out in the woods, and the cheaper groceries are a 2 hour drive away, then if you don’t preorder, you also have to shop. I just started preordering. It saves me at least an hour of time and energy so I can still drive back home in decent shape. Last trip we even had energy to spare for some yard work. Thank you for the great tips, I might check out dollar shave soon, but after I finish my other refills.
I have ADHD and Epilepsy. I don't take meds for my ADHD fue to my siezures, but fo take meds for my siezures. Having someone deliver my medication would be super helpful considering I can't drive, especially after having a siezure after missing a dose.
It makes so much sense to work an another shift than to clean the home.. I'm so excited to see you and Dani collaborating together. 😃💗
LAUNDRY?!!???! 🤯
Thank you Jessica!!! 💜❤️💜❤️💜
This video was so helpful!! I forgot about some of the other things you mentioned.. and definitely need to use these services now! *Hug*
....
Also, students can get a lower rate on prime memberships.. it's helped me a ton with textbooks and personal items. Some things are cheaper on Amazon, but not everything.. so I'll only order it if it's cheaper than Target bc they have 2 day shipping too 😊
Produce deliveries are amazing and save money too. Especially ones like Misfits Market where they send you misshapen or over-ordered produce that a grocery store didn't want. Just gotta make sure to use the OHIO method (only handle it once) when you get a delivery by cleaning and prepping it all right after opening the box so nothing goes to waste 😊
"I have one pair of pants. I am not wearing pants."
IT'S NOT JUST MEEEEEEE!
Most supermarket chains have delivery in The Netherlands. Also your info works great for aspies with executive functioning problems like me too 😀
As a stay at home parent, this made me almost cry, thank you for being able to relate 😢💜 now I know why things that are so simple for some people are a challenge for me
This was good timing because I have to do laundry tomorrow (maybe Saturday if I really stretch things)
Every one of these videos almost makes me cry because my family treated me Soo bad and I thought I was broken! Thank you!
WHOA--I thought I couldn't get groceries delivered because I live in a rural area, but Instacart delivers here AND uses my favorite supermarket! I work at home, and a disruption like shopping can totally derail the rest of my work day. (I generally enjoy grocery shopping and seeing the friendly faces at my local Giant, but Instacart will become my best friend during deadlines.)
Thanks, Jessica!
Wow - another life changing suggestion! I've been going through a nightmare getting my medications. From pharmacy techs judging me and fear mongering my medications to unavailability. Googled my insurance and they have delivery! Thank you so much! You're videos and community have done so much for me! I can't thank you enough!
From Denmark here. A grocery store chain has an app, that allows people to do grocery shopping for each other. To order, you just have to choose what you want, and pay extra to reserve money for the person shopping for you, in case the store don't have the exact item you want.
Then the person will deliver it to your door. It's about 5-7 extra dollars compared to grocery shopping yourself.
I think most Dutch people will know how to get these things delivered in the Netherlands, but in case some don't:
- groceries: picnic, AH, Jumbo, any supermarket really. Not sure about same day delivery though..
- toiletries: Kruidvat, bol.com
- laundry: no idea if that's possible here
- meds: Regenboog apotheek! It's a lifesaver for me. They deliver your meds weekly by post and it comes in these little plastic bags with the time and date you have to take them printed on them. So you always know whether you have taken your meds! And if you are insured at DSW you can get all sorts of ADHD meds "vergoed" (don't know the English word for it)
- I can't remember the fifth thing...
I hope this is helpful for someone (:
Your a baller! Even dollar shave club wants a piece.
Awesome!
Love Dollar Shave Club! Customer service is the bomb!
I also love Grove Collaborative for cleaning supplies. They have a bit of everything including candles, skincare, etc. The same price as the grocery store with more scents to choose from.
i like getting my groceries delivered - i book a good bit in advance, and i can add as i remember things! (which happens a lot!!). I would typically buy fresh things in the store which means a smaller shopping list and less stress
Oh my gosh this is so useful! Thank you for another wonderfully helpful video 💖.
Hey Brains! If the 90 day supply of meds gets lost in the mail (or stolen) you may not get a replacement covered by insurance. Yep. You are out the co-pay And the meds. Also they may be 2 weeks late or subject to temperature swings sitting in the sun awaiting delivery etc. This might damage their effectiveness. Best of wishes to you!
This has happened to my husband so many times, omg!
While not exactly a "delivery service", many auto repair garages will come pick up your car, fix what needs to be done, and bring it back to you, and you never have to leave work. If you need new tires, or routine services, or minor repairs, it can be a huge problem to change your work schedule, or take a day off, not to mention the time spent sitting and waiting. I generally do most of my own work, but the shop I sometimes go to will pick up customer's cars within a certain distance from his shop. Some places (major dealers, generally) will have you drop your car off there, and shuttle you to work, then pick you up at the end of the day to get your car back. Again, you save time.
Aloha! So I wanna start of with, thank you thank you thank you for making a youtube. I havent been diagnosed yet, well, next week will be my evaluation. Ill pass with flying colors lol. But if it wasnt for my last gf and bestfriend for guiding me to watch videos on ADHD. I have so many of your same gifted curse I should say, and also some from other brain friends so to learn how to cope and manage and work with my brain, i finally figured out at 34 that I have a decent amount of ADHD along with PTSD, anxiety, and major recurrent depression, I can finally get myself under a bit of control. So again, thank u so much. I wanna say that your my electronic bible I turn to daily! I could keep writing and writing and writing about my testimonials I have not even been on meds yet but I can always write more on another video. Mahalo - (thank you)
I should charge "my brain" for all the work I do for him *lol*
PS: Jess, you are super pretty and I love your hair :D Have a lovely start in the weekend!!
my partner and I both put off grocery shopping and meal planning because TOO MANY STEPS! we waste so much money on eating out. and after watching this we finally tried delivery and it was life changing !! if you're in Texas HEB does curbside pickup and home delivery ! Thanks you always Jessica ❤️💕
The way that you explained “splurging” on things that others see as unnecessary is exactly what I’ve needed to hear. I learned to drive this summer and came back to college this year with a car and so far it’s made a huge difference in how much less time and stress have to go into things like shopping. I don’t have to bike to the store or ask for a ride, and I can go whenever I want, as often as I need. I’ve been feeling guilty about driving a new car while other students I know can’t even afford a train ticket home, and I needed a reminder that the time and energy it saves me is worth the money, and that I’m worthy of tools that help improve my quality of life.
HEB is the local big grocery store in Austin and they offer a very cheap grocery pickup option. Order on the phone and pickup on the way home from work. Wonderful service.
Oh how I miss HEB!!!
Thank you so much for making this video. It was super validating to hear someone else with ADHD express how real these struggles are and that there can be a real advantage to using outside help for us!...:D
Ah, poor old forgotten laundry! So glad we've got a washing machine that tells Alexa when it's complete, so she can let us know! We also get notifications on our phone 😊
Another idea for laundry is the laundromat. Especially for those who can work anywhere. Take your laptop and all your laundry to nicest laundromat you can find.
I do this when I get behind because I can do 7 loads a time and being the reinforces that that's what I should be doing. (No judgement I have 3 kids who all insist on wearing clothes all the time.)
I agree. If there's a decent laundromat within a reasonable driving distance. The benefits for me include that I can focus on getting more than one load done at a time and get the folding done without the distractions at home. Plus, I find it stimulating and enjoy being in a different environment while I'm doing it. It can seem to be a bit expensive, but I don't have to do it that often. The trick is to put everything away as soon as possible after I get back home, LOL.
On second thought, the real trick, or most important thing for me is to not do like I did one time and drive all the way to the laundromat, open my trunk and realize I had forgotten to put my laundry in, LOL.
@@artman02458 I would totally do that. Or not check and see if it is actually open....
I follow you because I just love your personality and the message you bring. It can apply to non-adhd-ers as well. But man, do I totally NOT have ADHD 😄 I can switch tasks like a dragon.
While at the gym tonight I realized I spend my time between sets organizing the weights people leave out during the day. I clean and organize, but the thought of doing that at home is painful. 🤦🏽♂️
In Australia, our major supermarkets like Coles and Woolworths can do 'click and collect' - so even if you didn't want to pay for the delivery, you can still choose in advance what you're going to buy and then go pick it up.
I tend to find (and maybe this is a generational gap showing) that online advertising isn't nearly as effective on me vs in-store advertising for impulse purchases - and I'm far less likely to impulse purchase if I'm sitting in the comfort of my own home already snacking on something!
Edit: the part on laundry reminded me to go put my washing in the dryer, thanks Jess!
I'm early!?! Wut!?!
But, seriously though. Is there any way for you to make a video about addiction to mobile device? For me, I know I need to get away from it, but I'm too reliant on them (for timer, checking dates, emails, etc...) I NEED a solution.
Also awesome video. Loves your content. This comment is long.
When I was a kid I was bored 99% of my time awake. My smartphone gave me everything I need. Thank you Samsung (sorry apple)
Ditto to all that!
How to deal challenges if in research work?
There's an app call flipd. It's subscription based but it's the cost of a cup of takeaway coffee where I live per month. But it lock's you out of your phone bar some apps on a whitelist and it honestly changed my life. You can't get out of the full lock which is super great for me but there is a lock that can be paused for quick checks. There are groups to keep it competitive and you can set the locks for specific time frames.
this is so true! i feel so bad when I order something but it's so much better to order something than getting stuck in the sweets aisle
Since I work in pharmacy, i thought I’d add:
Walgreens will do 90 day supply, as long as your insurance and your doctor are both okay with it.
They have a mail order service available as well.
You can also get medication delivered from the store. And the app is really good about giving you notifications, and also being able to check on what’s available and what the copays are before you stop in.
Also, unless the pharmacist is a stickler you can probably get it one or two days early, so you won’t be out of meds. And once you have been going to a store for a few months, the system will start auto-ordering your meds, since it has a history of use on record.
Hope that helps a little bit.
I recently moved to a new flat that - lol and behold - was equipped with a dishwasher! What a life changer (lifesaver even)! My kitchen’s been free of dirty dishes for months. And the best part is, I’ve not even tried to form a new habit, it just sort of happened. I can sincerely say that it has greatly improved my quality of life, and I’m genuinely a lot happier. It feels silly to say, but whatever you need (be it a delivery service of some kind or a dishwasher) to help you get through life with ADHD, use it (if you have the means to do so). No shame!
My family gets all our medicine through the mail with Express Scripts and it is useful for not getting stuck in a pharmacy all day.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TIP YOUR INSTACART SHOPPERS!!!! More than 5%!!!!
Please!
For those who live rurally (like me), taking your laundry to a laundromat occasionally really helps. You get caught up, and if you fold it before bringing it home, which the tables help with, it can make keeping up with laundry easier.
I used to only be able to use Laundromat, and keeping up with laundry was so much easier. Even with 2 little kids in tow.
I don't go weekly. But every other month is usually sufficient. And it gives you the chance to wash those big bulky items.
I’ll admit I’m horrible at laundry. Even now I have a huge pile. I end up just washing a few things at a time that I’m going to wear for a few days.
One autism/ADHD household tip on laundry: do one rotation per day. We don't have a dryer, so everything needs to be hanged to dry. This actually makes laundry fairly simple. We do this in the morning because that works for us, but you can take any time of day, as long as you take a set time for it. Monday: take laundry from line and put first round of laundry in machine. Tues: put clean laundry on line, next round in machine. Wed-Fri (depending on how much is needed): repeat Tues tasks. By next Monday, everything is dry and we start everything all over. It's not a lot of time, since we're just the two of us, but it keeps us on top of laundry instead of having to do laundry for a whole day because we're behind and we're out of clean underwear.
“Did you know that coats are supposed to be cleaned” uhh no ma’am 😂😂😂 that made me laugh
This is one aspect of life that was vastly improved by the COVID pandemic- soooo many stores started offering delivery or at least drive-up pick-up which has been such a boon for my ADHD butt.
I get the 90 refills. It's awesome! My pharmacy delivers but since it's walking distance, I pick it up or drive by.
This is so super helpful and validating! I was just diagnosed yesterday with ADHD and really appreciate all your videos and shared wisdom! I hope you’re hanging in there and getting the love and support you need!
LAUNDRY DELIVERY??????????? I'VE GONE HOW LONG WITHOUT KNOWING THIS WAS A THING?????
Thanks, Jessica, this was super helpful.
It legitimately hit my soul when she said that!
This video is so validating!
I had my groceries delivered twice a month last year when I had to take on extra courses during my bachelors and as a result was overwhelmed a lot. I only lived a ten minute walk from 4 grocery stores (including the one that I ordered from). The people who delivered the groceries always looked surprised when I opened the door lol. The reason I chose to get the groceries delivered was that that I noticed that visiting the grocery store is mentally draining for me, especially since I had not much time so I had to get it right the first time. I live alone so there is no help.
At first I did feel shame for ordering my groceries. On the one hand because I had trouble accepting that something as mundane as going to the store was something that caused me stress, on the other because I kept second guessing whether I really actually needed it or that I was just being lazy.
But hey, it's my money, it's available, it made my life easier! There were no downsides, besides the 6 euro fee to have it delivered in the evening.
What I really need is for someone to come into my house and hang up my clean clothes. I can wash things just fine (though it might take a few days) but even when I have everything dry and even some things on hangers from line dry, I never seem to put them back in my closet. I have months old laundry baskets full of clean clothes just sitting in my room that I dive into every once in a while for clean socks.
Thanks so much for this video! I know about grocery delivery, but thought it was too expensive. Now, I'll check it out. Also, yesterday my boyfriend went to the laundry room in our building and came back and asked me if I had left anything there. I said I don't know, then went to check. There were 3 items, including a pair of his jeans & one of my socks. Obviously, his jeans weren't dry enough and I forgot to go back for it. This happens way more than I like. Sometimes, I set a timer to go get or change laundry from washer to the dryer, but I forget that too. Thanks for explaining why it happens with my brain. I'm usually doing something else at the same time. Duh!
Continued blessings to you and well wishes while you go through this difficult time.
When I lived alone, this was a constant problem, especially in an appartment building with a shared laundry room where you had to pre-shedule a time and date...
This concept isn't new to me, but I thought handling my groceries and laundry this way was waaaay too boojie, so I didn't. But I signed up with Instacart and placed my first grocery order right after I finished watching this video. Two hours later I had my groceries - including all the heavy things I hate schlepping on foot. It was FABULOUS! Next up: Rinse Laundry Services. Oh, and I've been a Dollar Shave Club member for a couple of years and love it, too.
I’m glad you pointed out how cost effective it can be to have a maid, many of my friends who get paid way more than I do don’t understand this concept, time is money and if it takes you longer to clean than it’s worth there’s nothing wrong with paying someone to help you!! And you’re supporting someone in your community as well!! Win win!!!!
Not delivery related, but the medications tip made me think of it: check if your healthcare system has a patient portal and sign up for it! A lot of them will let you do things like refill your medications (which is how I get my ADHD medication every month - it makes it so easy!), schedule appointments, send a message to your provider, etc. which I find really helpful because I don't have to do it during business hours, I can do it whenever I think about it (because if I don't do it then you know it's just going to disappear from my brain). Also - if your pharmacy offers it, set up your (non-ADHD) medications for auto-refill. It saves me from so much anxiety and I don't know why I didn't do it sooner!
I love ordering things online because I can make a list, look at the list, and make sure everything I needed is actually bought lol. After having my baby girl, literally everything she has, has been ordered 🤣
1- paying for a cleaning service is amazing
2- so is Peapod (My personal favorite grocery delivery service, works with multiple grocery stores, my local one is Giant. Also many like Safeway have their own delivery service.)
3- CVS has been advertising lately that they now have prescription delivery. Haven't tested it yet. It also helps to be a regular at the same pharmacy and be really nice to the staff - when they see you every month at least your prescriptions get filled surprisingly quickly, plus your med will be in stock most of the time if you always get it there since they then are selling it so they order more.
4- don't feel bad about paying for these things, it's not laziness, it's division of labor. You're good at your job, so you pay $ from your job to pay someone else to be good at their job (which happens to be cleaning your house/ delivering groceries/ etc.)
My brother and I both have ADHD and we use Amazon subscribe and save for things like toilet paper, paper towels, and dish soap! It's been SO helpful because the order automatically arrives at our door every month, and we'd never remember to go out and get them in advance otherwise. Even when we do, they're bulky and difficult to take on transit since neither of us drive, and that's enough of a deterrent that the actual trip to do it ends up being delayed. You can skip a month on items if you decide you don't need something from your order that month, and we usually forget to opt out, but you just end up with extras for later. We haven't had issues like wanting to do dishes but being out of dish soap in a long time because of this! (I'm not sure where else they offer the service, but for reference, we live in Canada!)
My aspie brain, which has a lot of ADHD like challenges, has only recently been initiated to the concept of optimizing my energy. It's a whole new world!
In Montreal, most of the big grocery stores have a online grocery shopping and delivery service. Also, if you don't mind shopping in store but you have a hard time getting the groceries back to your place, it's often free to get them delivered after you check out!
Another thing I've started to do is trade services with my friends or roommate. For example, I am good at doing laundry, but cooking is a nightmare for me. So sometimes I'll take care of both of our laundry and he'll do some meal prep for me! We all gotta help each other out
I started using Stitch Fix recently because clothing shopping is something I dread and always seems to take forever. Now I actually look forward to trying everything on when the package arrives.
My mom used to work at one of those! She worked for A Chef In Your Kitchen, but I'd never realized how great this could be for me!
I'm so glad Australia doesn't have that issue with the meds, My psych just said yep, I'll give you meds and got them approved and gave me the script the first day he saw me. Then I just dropped the script in and it was filled in 10 minutes and I was done.
While it is a significant expense for me getting a regular house cleaner was literally life changing. Everything in my life is more ordered and calm and I am not always beating myself up over the state of my living space. I am so glad I finally got over the guilt of getting this help.
I have wondered why some tasks seem so much easier to do than others. I have always enjoyed doing my own laundry as well, but I do forget to switch them to the dryer quite frequently. And then getting them out of the dryer is a whole nother thing to remember. 😋
If you have laundry facilities in your home it helps to stay in the area. I used to sit on top of my washing machine or dryer until it was done to keep from getting preoccupied too far away. I have to go to the laundromat these days but I stay through the wash cycle and then hit the gym or take a walk through the dryer cycle with 5 minute early reminders to return.
I hate shopping. I hate being around so many people at one time so I mainly shop online for what I need. Like I said on someone's comment, I also buy enough of non-perishable products to last me a while (~a year). But our grocery store, Sobeys, opens on Wednesdays from 7am to 8pm with no ceiling lights and the radio off. After 8pm the lights/radio go on again. Best, best time of the week to shop there. TFS, Nicole PS my pharmacy put my meds on automatic so they send me a text when my prescription is ready. Love it.
We use Clicklist, which is a “shop online, pick up curbside” grocery service at Fred Meyer. Not only does it save me the anxiety of going through the store aisle by aisle, but, even though it’s a $4.99 fee to use, it saves us money, because we don’t tend to impulse buy and we can track how much we’ve spent as we add things to the virtual cart so we stay on budget.
Toilet paper!!!! In New Zealand we have an awesome company called Smartass that makes eco friendly TP from bamboo fibres, and not wrapped in plastic but in funky colourful paper. As an business owner with ADHD, a wife, and a mother of two boys who both are ASD/ADHD.... NEVER having to think about trying to track toilet paper store is soooooooo amazing. Game changer. Every 3 months a box arrives (with a snazzy donkey on the box) and it is more than enough for the 3 months, so we also have an emergency supply. Love your channel
I'm from Brazil, and I just found out that i can use Rappi to pick up my medicine prescriptions from the Doctor's office. It changed my life! I use to go days without my meds, because the ADHD makes it hard for me to fit a new task in my routine, especially if it means leaving the house.
Eu sou do Brasil e acabei de descobrir que eu posso usar o Rappi pra pegar a minha receita no consultório do meu médico. Mudou minha vida! Eu costumava ficar dias sem meus remédios porque o TDAH faz com que seja difícil pra mim encaixar uma tarefa extra na minha rotina, especialmente se inclui sair de casa.
My boyfriend has ADHD, and I'm starting to think I might have it too. We really struggled with chores in the appartment, as I get anxious and frustrated when everything is messy and he doesn't seem to see the mess around us. I hired a maid about 6 or 7 months ago. She comes and help cleaning every other week. It was the best decision of our life, and it completely saved our couple. Now we both have our chores and we still get free time.
I don't have ADHD (I watch your amazing videos with my awesome kiddo) but I'm all for things that save mental energy/time/stress.
We discovered Hello Fresh recently and it took me a while to figure out why cooking an entire meal was almost as easy as picking something up at the last minute, which is what I usually did when it was my turn to cook. I think it's because I don't have to think about it. I pull the bag from the fridge and follow the directions one step at a time. That shows me how much energy decision-making requires, especially late in the day. Yes, I could meal plan and buy the ingredients at the store myself for less money. But I probably won't. I will probably resort to pizza or Panda or whatever. So the costs are about the same, but I'm eating healthier and less stressed. Win win win. :)
Always useful info delivered by one of the best communicators who has the added bonus of the best eyes on RUclips!
Thank you for the tips and validation! ❤️
All of these people love your videos and know you're amazing (I agree) and we will always be here for you during hard times, including now, because we know you are worth the time and are an amazing person (:
It is so good to see you made a new video. I always get really excited when I see you uploaded a new one. And the editing of this video is great! :)
Omg if I can get the laundry done like that I'd love it!!!!
I tried it, it's amazing!!! Just, if you do one that also does dry cleaning make sure you put the drycleaning in a separate bag so they don't end up drycleaning, like, cargo shorts. (this literally happened)
@@HowtoADHD isn't it alot more expensive?
@@nehamaw it depends, I have to pay for my laundry and it's not much different.
If you either can't or don't want to pay a monthly subscription for online grocery ordering, most Walmarts now have a thing called Online Grocery Pickup. You download the Walmart Grocery app or go to their website and you can order whatever you need, and you choose a time that you can be at the store (you can go after the time too) and you pull into the parking lot and they bring your stuff to you. Cost the same as purchasing items in the store (sometimes less) and you don't have to deal with the hassle of shopping and trying to find the things you need and resisting impulse buys.
Hi! I’m a stranger from the internet but your videos are so great. They help me in ways that I didn’t even know I needed help. I thought my laundry struggle was unique to me but apparently not! Keep your head up and thank you for doing this. I hope you and anyone else reading this has a great day!
Your videos are so helpful! I'm the first of my family to be diagnosed, my Dad probably has it but learned to cope through hard knocks. For me, though, having archived videos with updated strategies and a whole community so kind and helpful has impacted my life so powerfully. Thank you so much, and keep up the amazing work; I'm sure plenty of other brains feel the same way about this channel.
