Back in the 60s we used to flip the lid of the air cleaner over. Did that on my mom's 67 Buick and it sounded tough. She thought it was broken when she got into it but, to her credit, loved it when I told her what I did... LOL
@@robmotiveplus boy, that old 4 barrel on the Buick sure sounded great. Also did it on my 312, 57 Ford with a Holley and it was really wild... Those were the days...
I personally have always liked intake roar better than exhaust growl noise. As far as the exhaust system in new Jeeps that are mandrel bent, that in the past was not the case, that was the biggest advantage with aftermarket exhaust, but not anymore. The only way to gain power is with less restrictive mufflers that will increase decibels in noise, unfortunately a V6 will never sound as good as a V8, or inline 6. You will gain more across the rpm range in hp and tq, with a CAI. The one brand that stands out from the rest in multiple tests that had the most hp at peak and tq at peak, when installed on a Charger 3.6! Was the K&N, the next with higher tq at lower rpm was MOPAR, but at over $400 the most expensive compared to the K&N at $350. Tested in a MOPAR mag. back in 2014, in both V6 and V8 Chargers. Like you mentioned about in the day when you kicked down, there were two big differences, one the engines with a 4 brl carb had those secondary open up making a roar, plus transmission were only 2-4 speeds, so to kick down the engine speeds between gears was greater.
The main problem with cold air intake...is that it gives you sound from the air coming in the engine.... So noise will be most heard in the cabin... Not much sound outside... But an exit exhaust will give the sound coming out of the engine.. so when the car is changing shifts.. you will hear that... especially the nice part is when you remove your foot from the gas.. and the sexy roar of the exhaust comes... But I agree with you.. for most people... maybe the cold air intake is good enough... Especially knowing Gladiators or Wranglers are not exactly race cars or fast cars.. well except Wrangler 392... or a Gladiator with Hellcat engine...
I did remove my exhaust from just behind the converter back, put on a short muffler and turn down, comes out about rear door area. Having done this, i agree with you its not really all that and its a bit louder. The real reason i did it was to get rid if the over the axel pipe and large resonator that hangs super low. Now, i gained a ton of clearance for off roading. I should add, that I removed the spare to gIn clearance. Mounted it on a bumper swing away carrier . The sound your getting is sweet, great mod. I may do that intake as well. Thx
WELL, I did both ,except with an Injen Cold Air. Hooker gladiator duals that eliminate the resonator and come out the sides right behind the rear tires. $300 and did it myself .only one cut before the resonator and use existing frame bolts with provided hangers. ( install video on youtube ). At about 60mph as i'm passing Toyota's on the Hwy it as a beautiful deep tone at 3000 rpm.
Don’t waste your money on an exhaust, waste your money on a cold air intake instead? None of the aftermarket intakes provide a power increase over stock. The stock intake was well engineered.
Whoa. That's one mighty acceleration growl.😇😃😎🥳🤜🤛👍👍👍🤙 Plus, I comprehend your disappointments from other cold-air intakes that you tried. Plus, you can save the other Air Raid box that didn't deliver all the parts as future replacement parts too. Yet, the Air Raid is awesome.
So... all the back and forth and the quoting of the JT Mods channel about dyno testing the s&b showing a large loss of power... Have you seen a loss in MPGs w/ the Airraid longterm? The dyno testing doesn't consider riding down the road. After a lift and 37s i'm looking for ANY tiny bit of power and efficiency back and looking around it seems, based on forums and YT, that there's NONE...like i see no power or efficency mods for the Gladiator. Any help appreciated. Love the channel
The only way you’re gonna get any more power is to drop in a bigger engine or supercharge. Those big heavy tires (not the lift) are your real problem 😬. I’ve noticed no fuel economy change with the intake either way.
@@robmotiveplus The reason I replied is because I've been there done that in my younger years and having owner over 40 cars. Without a tune, most CAI do nothing but add sound. Sealed CAIs may benefit at higher rpms where most people do not operate their vehicles. Cheaper versions suck hot air and the ECU compensates with less fuel therefore people think it improved mileage when in fact the increased MPGs is due to the engine producing less power. I put CAIs on several of my cars, including BMWs, Mercedes and a Jaguar XJR. On the XJR being that is was supercharged I gained a few A HP on the others I gained sound and that annoying sucking hiss at partial throttle. CAIs are a waste of money for most applications.
I added the Airaid based on this review. LOL I'll have to tell you, this video doesn't do it justice! (Sorry) My Gladdy sounds surprisingly AWESOME! I still plan to add the dual exhaust with rears exits. Love that look. Hopefully between the intake and exhaust I'll reach some sort of cool sound........Thx for the review!
@@robmotiveplus what do people in the cars that you might be passing here, or people that are walking along the road. What do they hear when you nail it.

I know!! I heard of that many times back in the day. Tried it on my Buick Skylark too. Never got anything out of it😐

Exhaust on a v6 is awful sounding. I basically traded my 2 door after I did the exhaust. Horrible drone, horrible
What's wrong with the noise being in the cabin? You're the one that wants to hear it.

Best intake I’ve found for great sound…on any midsize truck👍
@@robmotiveplus . I may have to get it
Sounds great I just wanted that dual exhaust look with my cold air intake. Kind of goes hand and hand in my book.
I can relate. I love the two pipe look too👍

I have gone with the Banks Power Cold Air intake, great sound as well.
I was thinking of straight piping my gladiator.

For me, I wasn’t expecting a power increase with either. I wanted better sound. 👍

Nice sound, much better than the S&B.
I agree👍
So which cai do you like better? I like the cover on the s&b one better.
For sound…definitely the Airaid

You can get about ten horsepower from a really free flowing exaust like the outlaw extreme but other than that you're right
How does it sound at start up and idle from the outside? Any improvement in power or mpg?
You get sound at acceleration. No other benefits .
Yeah, get a CAI that sounds ridiculous and you'll hear that sucking hiss at partial throttle plus you'll lose power. Lose lose situation.
The CAI is the way to go👍
