The twin guns are m1919 30cal. browning machine guns, the single gun is a browning m2 50 cal. The model sbd used in midway had 2 m2 browning guns in the nose cowling.
Another excellent and thorough review. Another poster mentioned the Dauntless pilot who sank the carrier flagship Akagi and scored a hit on the carrier Hiryu, but did not get a Medal of Honor at Midway---that pilot is Richard Best which Hobby Master released a long time ago (I have one). For some bizarre reason, the Navy has never even named a warship after Best (Hollywood honored Best---he was the main character in the movie MIDWAY a few years ago). All of Hobby Master's pilots look like the bodies recovered at Roswell in 1947.
The SBD-3 is also my favorite plane! in my opinion, its very underrated and I believe it should have more fame and respect than any other plane in my opinion.
One last thing: You call the nose-down attitude of the bomber on the stand the "dive bombing" position. Forgive me if you know this, but in case not, dive bombers of this period bombed diving straight down, vertically. That way they were far more accurate than if they were diving at an angle, because the bomb didn't keep moving horizontally. This is why the "trapeze" is needed to swing the bomb out to clear the prop. So I'm thinking of hanging mine from the ceiling with nearly invisible fishing line attached to the tail. With dive brakes deployed it should look like a real attack. Fletcher
I have this very model in my collection also , probably my favourite ❤️ Hobby Master also does an optional display stand which I have also which really does complete the model , I don’t normally use stands but this one was crying out for it.
Nice!.I like the clear cowling feature..I used to work with a guy and he flew Dauntless planes with our RNZAF in the Pacific in WW2.. thanks from NZ 👍✈️🇳🇿
Cool video. The first Dauntless had .30 cal. cowling mgs and rear mg(s) but later versions got .50s up front. Notice they painted over the red dots to avoid confusion with Japanese aircraft.
Yup, the meatballs were quickly painted over just after the Battle of the Coral Sea. Painted over too were the red and white stripes on the rudder. In many pictures from Midway, the ghost images of the meatball and stripes are still visible.
Great video! could you do the F6F Hellcat from Hobby Master in 1/32 scale as well? It is an older model from the 1/32 Premium Collection. Great content!
We need more hobby master videos, these planes are awesome. I recently bought a hobby master f-16 from the Hellenic airforce and the quality of the plane is great. I suggest you have a look at it because I believe it has one of the best paint jobs you can find in an f-16, it’s code is HA3870. Greetings from Greece🇬🇷.
I think I probably say this every video, " this is the best kit yet", however, this is the best kit yet :-) I think the die cast makes a big difference on appearance. Airframe wise, this aircraft had to be built super stout, standard dive was 70% dive angle pulling 4 g' s . Encountering the heavy AAA, like at Midway, pilots had to go up to a level of 6- 9 g's before bomb release . Pilot really had to work on staying out of g- lock. The poor gunner was really strapped in, usually blacked out during dive due to g load then went to positive g throwing him forward. During Battle of Midway there was one pilot who hit two carriers and a heavy cruiser, I'll never understand why he did not receive Medal of Honor . To imagine g load you have to compare WW2 to today's pilots Flying F22 and F35, you must qualify to sustain 9 g load without g lock. The German Stuka was designed to drop bomb automatically and to pull out of dive automatically to account for pilot blackouts. Luftwaffe wanted to stop making them because they were SO slow, however, they were also accurate that's why they were produced throughout war. Maverick probably couldn't fly the Dauntless :-) Oh, notice the decals , they took out the red center so they would not be confused for Japanese..
Looks like a great model. However, what is up with the white star decal with the faded red circle in the center? The correct decal for the battle of Midway was an all -white star!
Where do you find most of these models? Also it’s funny when I was younger you could buy the 21st century toys versions at Walmart I missed when they were sold at stores
I missed most of the 21st Century Toys when they were at Walmart unfortunately. Now they can be expensive on ebay. This one you can buy here: historicaviation.com/sbd-2-dauntless-1-32-die-cast-model-ha0212-richard-fleming-and-eugene-card-vmsb-241-1942-battle-of/?1

@@MilitaryVehicleReviews Hello, I’m not able currently to look up Hobby Master, but do they offer a BF or ME109 in their line of products in the same scale as the Dauntless? Thank You in advance for your time & information!

LETS GOOO
5:25, those are actually 30 caliber guns. The two 50-caliber guns were only forward fixed in the engine cowling

I love all your models, but this is very beautiful
Agreed ! 👍💯
Good job!!! Love seeing these models👍😁😁
Thank you! 💯👍
Hooray for the good old beige, white and blue.
It's to show that the previous markings, with the red circle, have been overpainted. It's a little too strongly visible but a nice way of showing.
It does look like a model, though. The clear cowling option is so cool. Great review.
Thank you!

Ciao, volevo chiederti, dove si possono acquistare i modelli che presenti, qui in Italia nn li trovo....te ne sarei grato, grazie
Hi I have been trying to get the sbd dauntless but can’t find it or it’s to expensive 😢
It is pretty expensive. HistoricAviation.com typically has the best deals on them.
Thanks for the link to the product. What other sites do you use to find these models?
Historic Aviation typically has the best prices but if I cant find a model there I use FlyingMule.com or ebay.
I never knew the pilot had a "scope" to look through. I thought the pilots just eyeballed everything.
HA0212 I want to get this plane for myself where could I get this model plane?❤😊

I'm not an expert, but it seems curious that the 1000 lb bomb had printed mfg date of 10/42 but the model claims to be "Midway".
Thats a good point.. 😂 Maybe that was a batch number?
Ware do you find these

Can you make a b17 flying fortress video?
What is the cost of the plane without the stand?
Its about $230 but you can get them on deals for under $200 sometimes.
I have to get this in my birthday
Because why not right?
I lv it
Other way around 50s in the front 30cals in the rear
50s are front, 30s in rear . 😊
Thank you! Sometimes when videoing I say things backwards 😂
Nice first
Nope
One thirty-second scale (1/32nd). Also, it is a cowling. Otherwise, excellent video.
You could do a Mk11 spitfire
Thinking of doing a model build of a Spitfire 👍💯
😮😮😮
My grandfather father serve an he would see some of these
He stopped uploading again😢
Just uploaded one today 😁
Realmente hermoso⚓
I have that one
Everything moves, except ... the wheels
I love the dauntless but I’m not pay $200 for it
Ya unfortunately they went up quite a bit after the manufacturer went out of business
I’ve got a huge chub just looking at this…..
Can I have all Ww2 tanks and planes
Do more videos
Why the yamaka though? Not questioning your religion though I know it’s minhag I suppose.
You should should start doing kits instead of prebuilt

I have been wanting to. I have a couple Spitfire kits and may try a video on one. 😃
Damn I want one now, its your fault.
