A few days ago, I bought a RSP2 and started using during my vacation. This article is very well done and useful for beginners like me. Thanks a lot for your help and high value support for your SRD devices.

I've been using a v3 dongle on a pi with a qfh connected for ages and RTL-tcp running so I can connect to the pi on the lan.
First I connected my new sdrdx to a pi with a sdrplay image on with cubic sdr on. Connected with no problems and after enabling vnc I could use Cubicsdr with no problems. I enabled both servers in the Play list but could find neither on my win10 machine, but that will be my test later on.
Win10 installed with no problems, and I can see it in Device manager under sound. I had it connected to a v dipole through the bnc, and a whip that came with a sma connecter on. I managed to get a faint bit of sound from the BBC but that was followed by a "surprise USB removal detected. check usb cable, SDRuno will now close". Unplugging and replugging did nothing, a reboot was needed.
First test swap usb cable to the one off my printer and that problem seems to have disappeared two and a half hours later, wow doesn't time fly with these things, but I shall check it out later. Wire thickness and length might have been the problem.
As you mentioned the pin in the sma I jumped out of my seat and unplugged the whip, wow there is no flipping pin, I blame that on my aging sight and the late hour but it's easily missed. Luckily the bnc homemade dipole connection tested ok, but it needed to be outside to get any sound at 100 mhz as it was only 54cm long, hence the faint BBC last night. Putting it on the gate outside and we have wall to wall crystal sound.
Later i'll be back working on the server whilst I'm waiting for a door pass through cable to arrive in the post as outside beckons with lengths of wire connected to my now three connectors.Woop!, woop!

hi all the most important thing to consider when using this device on your USB ports and you have strange "not installing" issues
is that most USB cables have hair wire thickness in them and can not supply the current needed to make the unit work
and that a lot of USB port claim to have high current capability and they don't !
So you need to try a short and thick cable if that even exists
(i spent 3 hours fighting with strange drivers only to find the unit could not power up correctly due to crap USB cables)

Thank you for this video. I'm having issues with transparency on the buttons of SDRplay; the buttons appear completely transparent and I can't see them. Has anyone else had this issue? How did you resolve it? Running Windows 10.

Thank you for this video which enlightens me a lot. I'm waiting for an RSP1A that I just bought and now I'm wondering about the type of antenna required. I'm thinking of a long-wire antenna, built with a 50-foot electrical wire, and the addition of a 9: 1 Balun. Can you give me your opinion on this. I admit at the outset that I am a beginner in the field. A very big thank you

Very nice video, I just ordered an RSP1A and hopefully you can help me make it running. One question I have is can I run or operate RSP1A with Windows 10?

Yes, go the software page and choose RSP1A and Windows10 - this will guide you to our recommended SDRuno download: www.sdrplay.com/softwarehome/

Hi Jayward, yes you can download SDRuno, although you will need your RSP1A in order to run it. Take a look at the documentation on: www.sdrplay.com/docs/SDRplay_SDRuno_User_Manual.pdf

@@SDRplayRSP thank you Sir, now my other inquiry would be this, just so I can enjoy listening and be able to modulate with some stations, like for example if I run the SDRUNO on separate computer for RX and CAN I still be able to transmit on my rig with separate antenna? Sorry might sounds funny newby here thank you and 73 de KH2ZZ

@@jaywardjulian6163 You need to make absolutely sure you don't have more than 0dBm (1mW) RF power appearing at the RSP1A antenna input (or 10 times this for short periods) This tends to be a problem if you are transmitting on the lower HF bands and have antennas close together. See ruclips.net/video/m_BiLz4wskY/видео.html

I have an Icom 7300 with an al80b amp . How do I go about not destroying my Rsp1a? I have 2 endfed antennas going into my shack. I am aware of the MFJ-1708 . Is that the solution? Any input from users out there?

    • @SDRplayRSP
      @SDRplayRSP  5 лет назад

It depends if you want to have one as a permanent receiver - then you need to ensure you dont have more than 10mW RF at the RSP for short periods (1mW continuous)
It's tough to give guaranteed safety rules on how you ensure this.. However, this app from Rhode & Schwartz that allows you to make an estimate of coupled power from a transmit antenna depending upon the antenna separation, Tx power, antenna gains etc:
      www.rohde-schwarz.com/ca/applications/field-strength-and-power-estimator-application-note_56280-15837.html?fbclid=IwAR2v627eQJ9eVox3wfMWXkKM2CbQuWkm-3oBpt6L4GTd5KulX9N5Fzd-ZBI
This can be used to give a rough guide as to what level of isolation you need to achieve but use it with caution since we cannot warrant the results.
Alternatively the MFJ-1708 is an excellent way to safely ground the antenna input to the SDR. If you go to www.sdrplay.com/apps-catalogue/ and do a search on "MFJ" it will give you links to 2 videos and an article pecifically on this. If you still have questions, feel free to raise a ticket on the Support tab of our website www.sdrplay.com

Another option to consider is this: www.dxengineering.com/parts/inr-rx7300
It all depends on what you want to accomplish receive-wise and how you want to configure your RF signal paths. We cover all the options here: www.sdrplay.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/171011PanadapterGuide.pdf

HELP Love SDRplay and the software. A month back I installed it with my ICOM 7300 using the RadioAnalog ptrx-7300 module. When I started the SDRuno software my radio went into transmit and would not stop. I would have to shut the software down or turn off the radio. I fixed it by changing a setting on SDRuno, great, my computer crashed and I had to reinstall the operating system. Not I can't remember when I changed to fix this transmitting problem. Help. JJK

A bit late to the party, but you could have created those server files using the 'touch' command (it should exist in MacOS, it does in *nix and BSD). If you file you ouch doesn't exist, it's created. (Also using cat to send a null to a file [using >] will do the same thing. [You have to be not only a radio ninja, and an SDR ninja, these days you have to be a shell ninja.])
