You forgot to mention, after all that is done, you must press RSYNC1 button on SDRuno RX Control window to make it all work. Thanks for the video, it helped me to setup my RSPdx with 590SG. 73
Your video was helpful in selecting RSPDx as a pan adapter for my new TS-590SG. I purchased them at the same HRO! Thanks for the video. Now I just have to get my antenna installed. 73
When I press the METER/DRV button and get the * to appear on the Kenwood screen, it is as if I pressed the ATT button -- all the signals get very quiet. Is this normal?
Am I to understand that there is one USB connection from the SDR device to the PC and another USB connections from the rig to that also goes to the PC? Do you think I could use the serial port out on the TS 590sg as opposed to the USB port? I am trying to keep the USB port reserved for another application.
Have the 590-SG and DRV set to Antenna with asterisk on display. When I transmit, the SDRUno display spikes and a brilliant dot appears before it apparently cuts out the antenna. Is this normal? Or is there an adjustment for the response time?
@@SDRplayRSP Thanks for the reply, I came here to delete my question because Im thinking the 590SG will also have a Remote Plug on the back and that should connect to ALC and Relay control.I don't have the radio yet and just assumed the DRV output was to control the relay So maybe my question was a silly one , regards
I have everything set up exactly like this with my TS 590 SG. It's very good. Apart from a problem I am trying to solve. I use a hex beam from 20 meters to 6 meters. For 40 meters I use an end fed long wire. As soon as I transmit on 40 meters with the end fed, the SDRuno radio-control starts to lag , and then eventually stops working so I can no longer control the radio via SDRuno (but the spectrum display still works and shows activity). The only way to resolve it is by restarting SDRuno and the RSP1A. Have you experienced something similar? I suspect RFI is causing issues, but not sure.
ive done exactly thesame but i have rg1 sTAUTUS = rig not configured any ideas please ,just to say i can control my rig with the kenwood radio software
One small yet important detail not mentioned in the set up is SDR Play will not control the rig frequency unless the RSYN1 button within the RX CONTROL window is enabled.
Paul Lin Thank you very much. Problem occurred after upgrade to Uno v1.3. Watched this video many times. Until I decided to look at the comments. So pleased. Thanks again.
Many thanks for the informative video. I have just purchased a TS590 SG and love it. I will certainly try this. However, you mention that the DVR output can be used to also drive an external amplifier. Therefore it's not possible to use the DVR output like this for the SDR and also drive amplifier at the same time? 🤔
Correct, the function of the DRV connection is selected via the menus. If you use it to drive a linear then you will need to add a T/R switch for your RSP.
@@SDRplayRSP Ok but it's not actually necessary to use the DRV output of a TS 590 SG to drive an amplifier correct? I am seeing interfaces to amplifiers here that don't involve the DRV output at all 🤔 . Sorry, I'm a noob regarding this in general
Well I have connected my 590sg to my rsp-1a and the rig to the computer and I get the pan display. however I can not get the rig to sync with the display. The software says my rig is online and I have checked the sync in the software and that checks out. I still can not get the rig to sync with the display. All the setting agree with those in this video. Any ideas ??
if I wanted to do an A/B reception comparison between the 590sg and the rsp1a how can I toggle between the 2 when it is set up as you have described in the video ? Thank you
Lynn Hilborn both radios are active in this configuration so you can compare the audio from the rig with the audio from your PC. Use the mute button to cut off the PC sound and turn up the volume on the rig, or vice versa.
The TS-2000 does not have an RF out capability. You would have to share the antenna with your RSP, making sure it is protected during transmit. A T/R switch such as the MFJ-1708 can be used for this.
I've tried this with my TS890S but with no success. Omnirig doesn't support directly but I used TS480 and many other recent Kenwood radios with no joy. SDRuno reports radio is online and I've enabled RSYN1 button. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom G4KWL
I believe so, see if it has the same menu options described in the video and consult the manual. If using the RSP2 remember only the input connected to the rig is protected, if you have antennas connected to the other inputs they will need separate protection.

I don't think the 590S has the option to select the DRV as an antenna output. In that case you would have to use A T/R switch to share the antenna with the RSP.
The procedure presented in the video works the same on the TS-590S as the TS-590SG: goto menu 85 select "antenna out" followed by one long press on [METER (DRV)] Button located on the front panel which brings up the asterisk showing antenna out is enabled in the transceiver.
All sorted - never properly downloaded and installed the TS890 Virtual COM Port Driver, the one that sets up the two Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge drivers. not properly illustrated. was trying to figure out one thing. i watch it closely til i noticed it is using an rf sensing switch. Also i would like to SEE how the RSP panadpater window behaves when a 100 watt power is injected to the switch.
Hi SDR Play guys (or anyone else reading this), do you know of any other transceivers that have a similar, easy to connect, "DRV" for an SDR as the 590sg? 73 Adrian EI9HAB
I don't know of any that are as easy, but rigs with RX out are quite common. But with those you usually have to split the signal and feed one leg back to RX IN to preserve receive audio on your rig.
most people use their panadapter purely for the visual representation of all the signals in the spectrum window and/or for listening mode. During a QSO it is better to use the transceiver's receiver due to latency.
