100% do NOT have to cut the carpet to get to these bolts. If you pull the trim pieces that hold the front portion of the carpet on, you can roll all of the carpet back (both sides at the same time) from front to back and access these bolts. Thank you for the video on how to do this. This really works great without having to drop the transmission.
thank you for this video ive got a 94 myself and i just replaced the ignition key cylinder and if it were new and not gummed up in the inside of the cylinder housing it woulda been a lot easier to get it to lock back in place but finnaly got it thats what can make something super simple take longer then it should but i love my ranger has 167,000 in it now and im hoping it’ll go another 200,000
Why do I enjoy watching all of your videos? Good stuff. Do a video of something you can't do. Run to the street and back, have the wife do the video we'll enjoy that.
How many miles between replacing the plugs? I couldn’t track down new ones so I reused them and sealed them with gasket maker. The plugs were in decent condition and not too hard.
i would say middle of the trans and flow down to bottom. best thing to do is remove shifter boot and cover and you can see from in side of the truck looking down.
Are these the transmission plugs? Mine hardened and cracked leaking transmission fluid. My Transmission had to be rebuilt. The transmission mechanic told me this is a problem with these transmissions. He told me rubber vent plugs can be replaced with metal plugs or caps.
When i got my plugs from Ford they were still rubber. The news ones will out last your truck now make sure you don't over fill the trans. . Thanks for watching
At 3:15 you talk about the nut you have to flip to get the stud off (the one at the foot of the shift knob) if the otherside is mushroomed is there a way to get the stud off?
@@OurCabinInThewoods I appreciate the answer.. yea I was think I could use my dremel n cutoff wheel to cutout of the mushroom.. I'm studying at the school so they might have that size die to try to run yet if worst come to worst..cut or grind...there has to be a trick out there for these gotta keep alist for situations like this! LOL For anyone doing this job I fixed the leak and the plugs without taking off the stick. Also if you plan on getting the dorman plugs for the 3 holes you might want to take off the whole top end of the transmission which is about 4 to 8 bolts. Dont think you have to replace the gasket. You can take off top plate. Put it on a work bench and tap them in. The plugs work better if you put them in the freeze for about 15 to 45 mins..then tap in with a socket. The cost $4 for 3 or get the rubber plugs for $15 to $16 each and replace every 80k to 100k or whenever there is a leak.
Went up to Oriellys borrowed their tap n die set it is a m12×1.25...cleaned up the threads and everything is good. (slowing down from now on make sure I know everything, video to repair manual, before I do anything)
Que tipo de aceite lleva esa transmisión porque yo también tengo ese problema de fuga de aceite pero como soy de México no saben muy bien de que aceite se lo agradecería mucho y dónde conseguir esas gomas
Sorry i didnt get back to you sooner. I went to ford and told them i need the three rubber plugs on the back top of the trans and they went back and had them in stock. They cost around $40 i think been a while. But it did fix my problem. Good luck and thanks for watching

my truck had 200K and replaced them ever time. Ford has them for like $45 for all three.
Where does the leak from those plugs come out at? Like where on the bottom does it flow to? Trying to diagnose where mine is leaking from.
i would say middle of the trans and flow down to bottom. best thing to do is remove shifter boot and cover and you can see from in side of the truck looking down.
Do you have a part number for the plugs? I can’t seem to find replacements the only ones I come across are metal and not as deep
I sure don't I went through Ford to get the Plugs.

The trans fluid is ATF. Automatic Transmission Fluid It is weird but that is what they come with good luck
Is this the same transmission that is in the 1996 model?
I'm not sure. they had a bigger engine in 96 so possible different trans
Great vid! What is the exact name and the part number of the 3 plugs?
