Hey Mitch ..that absolutely is unacceptable from manufacturers imo. They’ve started to try and sell this pre insulated stuff in uk ..I won’t touch it.Copper tube and armaflex insilation on a coil..The moisture issue issue excuse it’s a suite bullshit from the manufacturer,of course the pipe will sweat inside whatever . Also,I would guess whoever makes this rubbish copper tube doesn’t verify on the pipe it’s quality certification and bursting pressure like here in the UK. Good luck with trying to ensure quality copper tube from down under…at least it’ll keep the standards high which is what we expect from our country s manufacturers. Cracking informative video mate.👍
Daikin has great support. I’ve installed Della, Cooper & Hunter, Senville, AciQ, Mr.Cool Zero issues with any of them, but I’d bet that getting parts would be a pain for these knock off brands. Will be installing a Mitsubishi soon, excited for that. I just discovered your channel. Keep up the great work brother 🤘🏼 Cheers
Thanks so much mate! I’m a Daikin guy but I’m keen to install a Mitsubishi Electric and give my honest opinion because a lot of people seem to love them! I’m curious, do you have Mitsubishi Heavy Industries over there?
Thanks for putting this on RUclips and speaking up about it. I’m Daikin dealer from Syd and I’ve had this happen a couple times too. Tried to get some info from suppliers and they basically said bad luck. Maybe someone will have something new at the ARBS
I usually test the pipes with it still connected to the condenser, just curious is there a benefit to disconnecting it. Are u eliminating the possibility of the valves leaking ?
Hey mate! Fridgey myself and I am also completely frustrated with the current poor quality pair coil situation. Hopefully ARC will use there funds and governing bodies power to create a higher quality product being the minimum standard sold here in aus… Personally I prefer to work on Daikin, ME and Panasonic I’ve got 1 Daikin mini split in the living room, next unit besides a ME ducted would be the Panasonic Nanoe X splitty! Keep the videos coming!!! Cheers
I’m an aircon service technician based in WA. I have fixed lots of pitted pipe issues recently. Basically they are roughly 1-3 years old. My favorite Aircon brand is Daikin. The drawback is the price. But you get what you pay for.
Daikin for sure, have a MHI in my house and it's noisy and drops water onto our heads in the summer. Have installed a few Daikin units and find them much quieter and they run very well. Good video thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! 👍
Thanks for the informative video, love to see the result of your experiment, my personal favorite is Carrier and yes I have installed it in my own house, very happy with result, running smoothly from lasy two years
I have a Daikin, R35 runs a champ I service it by myself as a home owner with lots of knowledge only had to replace a pipe once and that was 4 years ago!
Things are no different here in New Zealand I am afraid. Great video, showing us your thinking and journey in bringing this system back online. I agree, this is completely bs and both customers/ installers are at the mercy of these pair coil manufacturers. Props to you in keeping the customer happy / informed throughout this ordeal. Well, for me Panasonic buddy. But you knew that. Ha ha.
Kembla copper used to be the best performance Cu pipe without fault. Now made cheap to not last and to be replaced sooner rather than later. Have installed a lot of MHI’s in a previous life without issue, more recently ME’s.
I emailed Kembla pipe and asked where they manufacture their pipe. They said Korea. Crazy stuff. I’ve heard good things about the Mitsubishi electric units
Crane Enfield is another high quality company. Not sure if they still make copper tubing though. Thanks to stupid Govt policies and lies perpetrated on the general public, we have driven local manufacturing off to China because of our astronomical energy costs. Thank you Government. Incompetence on a mammoth scale.
Great informative video. I like to install Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin. I currently have M.E AP's in my bedrooms and a daikin ceiling cassette in my lounge/ kitchen.
Surely if were liable for letting refrigerant off into the atmosphere through our works and negligence, so too should be these paircoil and line set manufacturers, complete bullshit
Like your contraption with those custom tails! Ive made something similar for Pressure Transducers to determine if a pressure transducer or board is at fault (for advanced actrons). Ill Give you my 2x Preferred brands for both Split Systems & Ducteds. Ducted Systems is definately have to be an Actron Classic. Easy Servicability from a technicians standpoint, Parts are always readily available on the shelf , Only Downside about them is the ducted are alot noisier then other brands. As for split systems I wouldnt use anything other then a Mitsubishi Electric, Ive never had an issue with these bad boys.
How much copper is actually in new pipe sets. Been in the trade for 35 years, cleaned out my shop the other day and found an old roll of 3/8 R22 pipe date of manufacture 2006. I was surprised at how much heavier it is compared to todays R410 pipe. Finding leaks of reverse valves now. BTW - never say never, one day u will have a leak on a flare. I'd install LG units in my home - Daikin spares to expensive
Great video as usual and we are seeing similar issues here in Ireland. Ive 2 different brands in my house. Toshiba wall mounted in kitchen( 17 years old) and Samsung ducted unit to bedrooms ( 5 years old). Haven't had a days bother. My preference is Toshiba
Thanks mate. It looks like the pipe issues are worldwide from what people are saying. Crazy stuff! Over here, Toshibas provide the most warranty out of any of the brands which is interesting.
Hey mate, I like watching your videos keep up good work, I’m aircon service technician based in Sydney as well I have come across this issue 4 times and my mate had same issue he took them to court he got his money back after going thru this much headache our supplies need to stop getting cheap stuff from overseas
I'm also in the same business. I'm working in Japan. Copper tubes are vulnerable to ammonia, so gas leaks may actually occur in places where there is urine from cats and dogs.
Thank you for your reply. I want to share the information without having it all to myself. Copper is easy to corrode when the sewage pipe is connected to the sewage pipe near the septic tank, or the drainage pipe of the water heater to the sewage pipe. This is related to ammonia and copper. I learned it in the Japanese construction exam.
This is happening in all fields not just in aircon industry. My relative overseas had a manufacturing factory and he told me once he couldn't survive if he used good quality material because other competitors used cheap material and his factory was just a very small one. His factory closed down in the end.
Well done mate, I hope your customer appreciates your effort and honest approach, it’s not their fault but it’s not yours either and you still did the righty 🙌🏼.. I’m a Daikin fanboy (except for the new Cora), Keep up the great work.. Good video mate.... 3x Daikin in my house because thats the brand i work on the most. Oldest unit is only 8 but had the pcb fail on the solenoid for the reverse valve, so magnet fix for a few months in winter happy days
Hey mate great video, great customer service this pipe issue is a real nightmare. I have been running a Beehive but thinking of switching to something smaller.
Hey Mitch great vid once again. I have had a leak in the Lineset on a daikin split ducted. Never had a leak with the black inso paircoil interestingly though! It’s annoying as if it was one of your connections you can live with it but when it’s out of your control it’s just shit. And my go to brand is Mitsubishi electric as I never have had a warranty issue
I've heard lots of issues with copper pipe in the US too. Some type of reaction causing pin hole leaks. One gent only has it happen on the white insulation, no issues with the black stuff.
@@Gsinclair2901 over here, you can get pre insulated or just the copper roll which is always 20m. I’ve always used the pre insulated rolls because it’s convenient but the quality is getting bad of late so I’ll probably start just buying the roll and adding Armaflex insulation to it myself.
Hey Mitch, love the vids as always. Id have either a Daikin splitty (Zena's look very smart) for the easy warranty claims or an Actron ducted because they're dead simple. There's a mature age 1st year apprentice at my workshop with his name on that veto bag. FIRE UP RHETTI BOY!
Hi Mitchel, this is interesting, and unfortunate for you and the customer, good luck with the new pipe line runs and lets hope these last longer.. I recently replaced my old 1986 Aussie made EmailAir reverse A/C that run until 2019 making it 33 years old, and still running perfectly, with nice heating and cooling, in those years i had it serviced about 6 times ?,with no parts replaced. The only reason i replaced it was due to the outside colorbond cabinet was looking weathered, plus the indoor floor unit was looking dated. We need to have our manufacturing back in Australia and produce quality products prior to the last 25 years... BTW, i had installed a Daiken 5.8 kw split R/C system, lets see if this Daikin lasts 33 yrs 😀
Hello Mitchel. We have 20 year old trane originally installed units at our home, still going with only fan motors and capacitors replaced. My choice will be another trane product.
Have come across this issue once. On a brand new installation, the pair coil had failed pressure test, luckily picked up before releasing gas. I couldn't believe it. Supplier pretty much said bad luck... As for what brand, Daikin all the way.
You do nice work, and take the time to clean off the unit, I was a tech for thirty years... who would of guessed it, crappy copper pipe... Made In China
Hey Mitch, a somewhat parallel issue with reactive chemicals in electrical engineering. In the 60's or 70's there was an electrical cable insulating material used worldwide that after a number of years caused a chemical reaction with the copper conductors. It's a greenish stain/goo. I only came across this with a house renovation. Fortunately it does'nt cause insulation breakdown, just a massive disgusting stain, especially in wall switches, light fittings, where you don't really want to see and deal with it. Funnily enough, in the era before cheap chinese products invaded the landscape.
Haven’t come across this yet but so frustrating, not good for your reputation either. Not to mention the r22 pipes were thinner wall too! I always give customers prices for Mitsi electric (especially for servicing) and Panasonics. But love a Daikin myself too.
I have a daikin sky air in my own home. Also a daikin 1 ton low ambient formy barn. We as a company Inthe US have stopped using the white lineset completly, 3 different leaks just like that. Turns out the white stuff like that is not UV rated.
hi Mitch, nice job, just concerned about that connection that was done in the cover of the outdoor unit? water could get in through the vents on the side and soak them creating a short...as for the silicone, I would have used electrical silicone instead of the roof stuff as it has eating agents in it, electrical stuff doesn't, im a Daikin dealer now here in NZ, been with them for a few months, great units, better change from MHI I was using, im strictly HVAC not a sparky lol been doing it for 15 years
Such a frustrating situation for yourself and the customer. I refuse to use white paircoil anymore for this reason. I have also been told if you completley seal the insulation to the copper on each end it can help prevent this. Still makes me nervous with the amount of pipe i have installed in ceilings/walls in newbuilds though. Daikin or ME are my preferred brands, have daikin in my house but there definetly not like they used to be.

Daikin for me. People go on about mitsi electric but had a site server room had 3 of them that lost their gas because they were corroded heavily at tails of the indoor all within 3-4 months of each other

Just seen this, sticking your leak tester up the insulation would have shown you the leak straight away.. This should be part of any leak test before you get to the pressure testing stage. however we have had loads and loads of linesets failing . Cheap Chinese copper is to blame.
And Mitch I reckon you would've found this under a vac aswell. Carrying out a decay test But this is very interesting to know now! Not sure where you got your pipe from but surely is it was actrol they would've covered this for you!
