It’s very upsetting how underrated this show is. I feel like AMC did a lousy job promoting it. I found out about it by accident. It’s of such high quality, it should be much bigger!
I think they didn't realize the broader potential appeal of it, beyond just the more cult-classic &/or niche of vampire fans and existing fans of Anne Rice & The Vampire Chronicles.
I prefer it when good shows be come known, especially when they become popular, with little promotion. It then is evidence of really how great the show is, and can stand on its on without all the "marketing fluff". Plus, especially in the day of social media, I don't like when it's months before a show's premiere and people get online and discuss, not just theories, but most likely what would happen, because those people are more knowledgeable and have had time to research stuff - basically spoiling the show in the comments. Also, I'd rather watch a GOOD show with NO promotion, than a BAD show with MUCH promotion. Wouldn't you?
Wonder if they decided to hold off on watching the Queen of the Damned movie too, since it's based on books 2 & 3 and also kinda spoils some things the tv series hasn't even gotten to yet after season 2, even if it does also alter a lot of details so they're quite different in the QotD movie than in than in the books.😅
episode 5 is one of my favorite episodes. the entire scene of lastat throwing louis around and claudia trying to stop him is such a relatable and intriguing scene. most of the camera framing is focused on claudia, it’s so isolating, like being the child yourself in the situation. her desperation and fear is so well acted.
The fight scene between Lester and Louie had me in tears it broke my heart , soul crushing the dialogue between those two while they were fighting and how Louie tried to calm Claudia despite being beaten by lestat in the moment.
I nearly had to stop watching after that. I’m sure so many can relate to Claudia in those moments. I know I did. But I’m glad I came back to the show!! It took a while to settle but now I’ve accepted it lmao.
Anne Rice's prose can be a bit on the flowery side, but she built some amazing literary characters. I miss her. I hope you continue to dive into this universe with her books. You'll spoil yourself slightly if you watch the movies, but I don't think it'll matter much. Each medium stands as its own entity. I really enjoyed this show, and I'm glad to see more people catching on to it. The acting is phenomenal, and Sam Reid does my favorite portrayal of Lestat.
I know a lot of people say not to watch the movie because of spoilers. But can I just say:: As someone who read the book first, THEN saw the movie, THEN watched this show; there's so much to be gleaned from the simple fact this show exists. This is a story of Louis telling his tale to the same interviewer again, with the benefit of time and perspective on both sides. In that same vein, even if one KNOWS what happens, there's still more to delve into. More to learn. More to dissect. It's so crazy to me how the book, the film, and the series have each captured a specific allure of each age they were made. I don't think necessarily being spoiled on the context of the story itself hinders enjoyment. If anything, it enhances the experience.
back to rewatching your reactions and they're just as fun the second time around! really hope you'll find the time to react to season 2, i thought it was incredible.
The performances by the main two characters are AMAZING, and should have been rewarded during awards season. Hopefully, now that more people are discovering it, the show will get its flowers!
27:35 A fair amount of viewers suspected he did but ya I didn't either. This however was one of the many things that just further showed how deeply in love Louis is with Lestat, the fact that he admitted he had always wondered if Lestat had killed Paul and we know how Louis loved Paul more than anything yet Louis stayed with Lestat and continued to love him. Louis never confronted that possibility by asking earlier, out of fear that even if the answer was yes he'd be forced to face the truth that he was still in love with Lestat.
Don't forget this story is being told from the perspective of Louis. Lestat... despite being a self admitted Brat at the time. Has a different viewpoint.
Yeah, but, I wouldn't trust Lestat's POV to be any more reliable either. You pretty much just always have to keep that in mind, no matter whose perspective you're getting or not. That's what makes the Vampire Chronicles go round, imo.😊💖 ^--^
Please watch Season 2! It's absolutely incredible. I first read the books back in the late 90's and have read them several times since. Although they made some pretty significant changes, I think they did the first book justice. Wait to watch the movie (1995) till after season 2 because of spoilers. And The Queen of the Damned is cheesy and fun but is also very spoilery as it covers the 3rd book in the series (and some of the 2nd) .
The movie will spoil the most broad plotpoints that will happen in the future, but to be fair you’ll find them out too if you start reading the books anyways. So i’d recommend watching the movie cuz its a cult classic and honestly it’s a very different feel from the series. But only if you don’t mind getting spoiled on ‘big events’ ofcourse😂
A year later, season 2 is out in full and season 3 will be out next year. Begging you watch, you’re honestly the best reactor of this show I’ve seen, you really try to understand each character.
Feel like the misses should have been on this journey too. Very underrated show can’t wait for season2 I really also enjoyed Anne rices Mayfair witches loving amc doin a little Anne rice universe
I really hope you will do season 2. It’s even better than the first and truly delivers. The show is coming to Netflix in December so there will be a big influx of viewers soon. :)
I'm glad you liked it! A lot of interesting stuff are waiting for us (even for the readers). Louis and Lestat are an insane couple, love them and they are endgame. But can't wait to see Armand and Lestat, their relationship is even more insane and incredibly interesting.
23:45 - YES! As Louis[ & for that one episode or two Claudia] is the POV character, thus we the audience are seeing/experiencing everything through Louis'[ & Claudia's] eyes/experience, so yeah we the audience are also being abused by Lestat. 😐😢💔💜
I'd say that the show and the movie share a lot of the same story beats and both keep the spirit of the book. If you dont mind knowing where the story is going, the movie would be a good watch, fantastic performances and shot beautifully. At that point though I would definitely read the book or listen to an audiobook as well. As for Queen of the Damned, it is a pretty ok movie, but it is the combination of books 2 and 3 in The Vampire Chronicles. I'm probably part of the minority that likes the movie, but mostly it is for the amazing soundtrack and score and the snapshot of early 2000s films. Aaliyah was fantastic in her part as well. If you want to be fully surprised by what happens in the show though, which is understandable, I wouldn't watch the movie or read the book yet.
Interview with the vampire 1994 will basically explain everything being more faithful to the books only some minor changes to it I highly recommend watching it I see it as a classic film, Queen of the Damed tried to fuse the second book The Vampire Lestat with Queen of the Damned so it was poorly done but there are some elements that can be forgiven, the soundtrack is golden which I think should have been in a true sequel to the film adaptation with the original cast returning but spoiler Interviews film ending has a surprise well worth the watch
Fantastic (and funny) reaction to this rollercoaster of a show - and I'm just as eager as you are for Season 2 now! It's an unhealthy relationship between Lestat and Louis without question, but damn, I'm already rooting for his revival! Bravo cast and crew!
You should definitely wait to watch the movie. The show is very different from the movie but it will give away a few key things. And again I recommend The Mayfair witches.😊
23:41 I'm laughing at this because it's so real. Like they're so toxic and intense, but at the same time seems that exists love too and it put us, as viewers, seeing this twisted gothic romance to put our morals at the edge. For me I abandoned the human morals to this story (acknowledging that the thrown of Louis from the sky was clearly an abuse unforgivable, even though the apologies was necessary, and this is addressed in season 2), put the human morals and ethics to people that lived more than a hundred years it seems naive and too simple to a tale of monsters loving, because at the end, as is said in the season: they are monsters among humans trying to live and loving in a fucked up way, once they all was transformed from traumas that are carried for the eternity in which they exist. Is really complicated to know how to feel while watching lol and is so hard to not falling into Lestat's charme and charisma. I love and hate him at the same time lmao I rooted so much to them to "kill" him, and it was beautiful
You could watch the queen of the damned movie before watching s2 because the movie doesnt have spoilers for season 2. It is not very accurate to the book though (the book does have a few spoilers for what season 2 will be) so when the show gets around to portraying it, it will be very different
well, daniel is a journalist. louis brought daniel over to write the 'odyssey' of his life. it becomes tricky to piece everything together when louis cherry-picks information to give daniel. and it's already been confirmed louis' memory is hazy abt some of it, maybe most of it. daniel asked for the source material, because louis is unreliable, like any journalist would do. maybe daniel shouldn't have pushed, but then louis can't be mad if the book comes out and parts of it aren't accurate, bc louis keeps changing the rules abt what he is and isn't telling daniel.
glad you enjoyed the show great reactions. if you did not watch the 1994 movie don't watch it yet. the movie covers whole first book while season 1 only covered first half so movie would spoil season 2 for you :)
Loved this review! While watching the 90s movie may spoil certain events, I don't think it would ruin the experience of season 2 for you. The movie is pretty different from the series. Season 2 has been really enjoyable so far, so either way you'll get a great season when you watch it. You can probably watch Queen of the Damned regardless. While that is technically based on the third book, they change so much about the characters that it is borderline unrecognisable from the book. It's fun though.
Beware spoiler!!! I love that this follow the book way more closely than the movie with brad Pitt or with Aaliyah ( hopefully this will go till modern time when Lestat goes full rocker lol) Thing is if I remember correctly didn’t he met Armand in Paris? Can’t wait to see Lestat mother, she always was my prefered character.
Part of me wants to see you react to the movie before the second season. However, that would be an odd first-time experience, so maybe wait until season 2 is out.
🤔; Yes he was trying to murde_, I mean drain him!... and that drop from the clouds was shoc~king! (I have to blame the writer or director of the show!) They went way too far! 📍When Louis and Claudia was outside the window, Lestat and Antoinette said I love you to each other, I think that was the 2nd worse thing he did to Louis, after that beatdown!... If he needed or wanted to hear it more he could've let him know... (31:20)🤨😢 Louis loves him, he just had a lot of resentment. / 🎵(That's Sam Reid singing!)😊
Lestat begs Louis for attention and affection all the time and Louis never gives it to him. Yes Louis loves Lestat but Lestat doesn’t know that. There is no way for him to know that since he can’t read Louis mind and Louis is always choosing Claudia over him.
@@PLLittleMama2007 🤷🏽♀; Well Claudia is his daughter, That's why he loves her!., *but EVERYBODY knows that Louis loves him!... Lestat loved him too, but he's done a lot of things his self that would make you question his feelings... Cheating, lying, getting mad he won't feed on people, etc. (in the church where he busted in and Forced(persuaded with powers, and under duress) Louis to be with him, He said Louis could be his self unapologetically.) Louis loves him, he just had a lot of resentment he was working thru. ~(stop defending wrong.)
@@PLLittleMama2007 😉- I love the show and I like discussing it., (and as you see, I have a lot of thoughts about it.) 💭First off I think they both loved each other!., *But Lestat stalked him B4 they met, (that's why he was at all Louis's regular hangout spots.) *He used powers on Louis from the jump, *and when Louis didn't come back, he killed people he knew, mentally stalked him, interrupted his brother's funeral march, then he busted in on his confession, killed the priest, then he threw all the tricks he had in his vampire bag at Louis to get him to agree!📍I'M JUST SAYING, STOP ACTING LIKE LESTAT DID NOTHING WRONG!😏/~But even knowing all that, I still got it bad for Lestat, I mean hooked!🤭 I think the show is really good, the actors, the clothes, background sets, most of the dialogue, etc.👍🏼
I would suggest reading the book because the series has a lot of changes from it. You can watch the movie...I guess. I rewatched it recently and its good but this series is much better. Beware: things will be spoiled by watching the films.
The books are (mostly) good, but very different from this adaptation. The movie is amazing IMO (first watched it when I was 9 lol) I think you should watch it tbh, the show is a very different creatur and I don't think it will spoil you much at all...
I don't understand reactors who always say that Louis deserved to be slapped like that. Daniel was all kinds of wrong for trying to force him to recount his daughter's SA after he repeatedly said NO. He's lucky that's all he got and that Louis restrained himself after he put his hands on him. I'm the unpopular opinion that Daniel was an antagonistic arsehole. And I didn't really like him that much.
I don't think some of the changes they made in this series work for the overall story. Introducing the racial and domestically violent overtones changed the dynamic of their twisted ménage à trois decisively. I enjoy the visuals but it's a very different story than the one Anne Rice wrote.
You should definitely watch the 90s interview with the vampire it’s so good and a lot closer to the book than the show. If you don’t want spoilers then maybe wait until after season 2 but I do think reading the book is the best option if you want to know everything right now, the show leaves out and changes a lot.
Spoiler free comment. It older movie had Tom cruise as lestat, Antonio Banderas was Armand, Brad Pitt was Louie, and Claudia was played by snagletooth... I can't remember her name.
I think a lot of people are way too kind to Lestat. He is abusive and manipulative and nothing in his love is pure. After fighting Louis there was no redemption for him. But that’s just my opinion of him.
Louis is no victim. He knew what he was getting into. Even invited the Vampire to have dinner with his family. Louis is not as innocent and not as weak as some people seem to think. Neither Lestat, Louis or Claudia are perfect. All 3 are screwed up. Let’s also not forget that Louis attacked Lestat and Lestat begged him to stop. Don’t feel bad because Louis challenged a power vampire and it did not go his way.🤷🏽♀️
@@fanaticentity I’m referring to people who feel that Louis is a abuse victim who is trapped with Lestat. Louis could have left many times but he chose not to because despite what everyone believes he actually does love Lestat.
@@PLLittleMama2007 And that's the problem, being a victim does not mean you are completely void of blame. It means "a person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action."

Exactly. The books always have more details.
The books are (mostly) good, but very different from this adaptation. The movie is amazing IMO (first watched it when I was 9 lol) I think you should watch it tbh, the show is a very different creatur and I don't think it will spoil you much at all...
If you don't wanna be spoiled, on Claudia, Louis, Lestat and Armand, don't watch the movie or The Queen of the damned. 😉
U should watch interview with vampire movie & queen of the damned .
Season 2 will be coming in May 12th, would u pls do reaction as well, I love your reactions!!
And I didn't really like him that much.
you need to watch hannibal the tv show!!!!!
Queen of the Damned is a good movie. Aaliyah gave a stunning performance. Cheers!
omg this is a repost ok im not crazy
I don't think some of the changes they made in this series work for the overall story. Introducing the racial and domestically violent overtones changed the dynamic of their twisted ménage à trois decisively. I enjoy the visuals but it's a very different story than the one Anne Rice wrote.
yeah because we hate inclusivity, girl bye and die.
Don’t watch the movie until after season 2. It will spoil some huge plot elements yet to come.
STRANGER THINGS S4 REACTION!!
Not only that but they also greatly undermine what Louis went through.
Don’t feel bad because Louis challenged a power vampire and it did not go his way.🤷🏽♀️
@@PLLittleMama2007 Define victim?
@@fanaticentity I’m referring to people who feel that Louis is a abuse victim who is trapped with Lestat. Louis could have left many times but he chose not to because despite what everyone believes he actually does love Lestat.
@@PLLittleMama2007 And that's the problem, being a victim does not mean you are completely void of blame. It means "a person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action."
Yeah don’t watch the movie yet
All vampires are gay
React to NF's new album HOPE 🙏
I know wrong channel
Adding Lestat beating up Louis is such a dumb move tbh. It was never in the books and it's not like Lestat at all
