Nice to see you rocking some Santalum's Teik!!! I only have 1 pair from the Pigeon Tree Crafting collab, and they're so dang comfy and SO well built, I really like the rough out on yours, can't wait to see how they break in!!!

I also really appreciate the lace options they send you, they look fantastic with those natural rawhides!!

I’m not a fan of the leather (looks like coarse cardboard), but the construction looks quite good, especially on the shaft.

It may look and feel that way but it truly is very durable and breaks in nicely. I don’t have a Samtalum pair but have a boot from Bandung with same leather I think.

Wear them hard and that rough out will alchemize to genius. Put them through their paces. Nicely done.

how would you clean this material? I feel like i would try to protect them since you could spill something on them and stain them right?

Clean roughout the same way as suede (suede cleaner, nylon brush and eraser for cleaning, brass brush for lifting the nap back up). Optionally add a suede/roughout protectant, whether from a brand like Saphir or a cheaper one from Kiwi, which they make for roughout military boots. Those protectants will prevent most stains and such as long as you keep a coat over the boots. Maybe apply the spray every 3-6 months, depending on environment/use. They won't prevent everything, but I never found that roughout boots with this general color ever end up looking dirty. A pair of roughout boots I wore in Afghanistan were definitely beat up, but if anything they looked better with a bit of dirt/staining. In a natural way, not filthy. Appearance is subjective, of course.

Agree with that! Also, this is veg tan natural so will darken quite considerably anyway. Thanks for your tips!

Do you know the current status of Santalum? It appears they've gone silent for almost a year. I've ordered a pair of boots from them, and they've been unresponsive for months.

My sources tell me the owner had an accident and can’t make boots anymore, at least for now

I can empathize with you. I've had a pending order since February as well. I truly hope he is doing well and recovering soon.
However, I do feel that it would be beneficial if he could respond to our messages, even if it's just to acknowledge the situation. Most of us are understanding and would appreciate any form of communication during difficult times. The current lack of communication is rather surprising.
@Bootlosophy Thanks for the info. I like those boots. I'm still hoping I'll get my hands on Mile 85 soon 😅

@@Bootlosophy after checking their IG, they use numbers to indicate different lasts (201, 323, etc)
The difference is the fit and toe depth. Some are in D width and E width.

@@kylegosiaco5318 Looks like it’s their 005 last, but I can’t figure out if that’s a D or E width from their IG posts.
