its been more than a year since you started uploading videos. I was searching for some channel in youtube and i found yours. at that time you didn"t even have 100k subs when i visited your channel and now you have 870k subscribes bro that is sick. first i was like he should upload some tutorials and then after sometime you started uploading tutorials i was in love with those especially lightroom ones. Can you make any after effects tutorials next time. You deleted some videos to in starting of your channel :(. its kinda long already but LAST thing what i wanna say finally is you inspired me that you can take better pictures with minimum equipment or no equipment at all. thats what i wanna say man thank you for these amazing videos. I MISS YOUR HAIR TOO!
I'm 60 and have been vlogging for almost a year now. Thanks Peter for being such a fun inspiration in this new adventure. You're leaving a wonderful legacy for your family. Keep em' coming :)
I used to feel really awkward vlogging in public, I used to not do it at all, especially if I was by myself, but now that I've been doing it for awhile I honestly don't care, some advice from a small creator like me is that if you feel uncomfortable vlog with friends, it takes away less of the awkwardness, then gradually try to just talk to the camera like your talking to your friends explaining what you are doing or how your day went, I love my vlogs and I love watching other people's vlogs, it's like a special connection between the viewer and the vlogger, I totally recommend doing it.
Watched some stuff, you're really funny dude! :) Just try not to shake up all your footage, some of it is hard to watch because of all the shaking :P But keep it up, nice work! :)
Watching this 3 years later and I have incorporated these points in my own vlogs, and it's true - You are the story, share it, be yourself and enjoy the journey! Keep creating!
This video definitely gave me a different outlook on vlogging!!! I always think that I must do extraordinary things in my vlogs but now I know that I'm the one who makes those videos interesting
We loved this video! However I think the main issue we have is with how we don't leave the house much except to go to our boring day jobs. I think the hardest part for us personally is coming up with the plan part of things. Thanks for the inspiration!
With getting kind of stressed out recently thinking that my vlogs were gonna be boring because I wasn't doing these crazy extravagant things. this video is exactly what I needed. Thanks Peter! Great vid as always! :)
Documenting your journey around something you’re passionate about can be one of the most rewarding experiences. Vlogs are a powerful way to share the story you want to tell and to connect with others who share your interests. Putting yourself out there can feel challenging, but it’s also one of the most courageous steps you can take. Embrace it, you never know who you’ll inspire along the way!
This is some insightful deep stuff man! I have been "vlogging" for about 2 years, just for fun, but my lack of passion for editing has been really in the way of portraying me in the best way. But this really motivates me to keep on doing it. You are truly an inspiration! Keep on doing your thing ✌️
Rob Speaking I guess you gotta push through and break that code. I haven't yet, but still I try to upload weekly if I am bothered. Seems like you're doing well tho, reincarnate your channel and keep pushing man!
2023 and here I am watching Pete’s advices, getting ready to launch my own RUclips channel and it is amazing how 5 years later everything he advices it still applies. Thanks Pete for inspiring me for years in so many ways. After dealing with a chronic disease I decided it is time to give back to the community, just as you have inspired and taught us. Thanks for being here and have fun.
Here I am, 3 years later watching this video. Still feeling weird to vlog in public, even realizing that I'll never see those strangers again in my life! (Literally never again as I'm traveling at the moment)
This is some of the best vlogging advice I’ve ever heard. This is why vloggers like Peter and Casey have staying power and don’t need to be fake for the camera.
I've been revisiting some "classics" from some of my favorite RUclipsrs, creators, and other inspirations today to help grease the creative wheels a bit, and lo and behold, some of the content that originally got me filming/vlogging/creating pops up. This will definitely be one of the references i cite when I do my Q&A episode, because even though I'm still just a fledgling vlogger, one of the frequent questions I get when I'm out filming in public is "How do I get started vlogging?" Thanks again Peter!
It’s funny how I come back to old videos like this. Re watching them still gives me the motivation and hypes me up so much. I’ve opened up a lot more since the first time I watched this. I’m proud of that and thankful for creators like you Peter.
I know I have told many vloggers that I was going to start vlogging, but I'm still having troubles getting over that step!!! So, this is really helping me to overcome that!!! Thank you!!!
Honestly, I've been wanting to start vlogging and start making actual videos. One of my biggest hang ups was that I wasn't interesting or that I lived in a small town where nothing ever happens. I think im gonna dedicate a lot of time to really start making videos. Peter, you're amazing and super inspiring! Thank you so much for this!
I live in the middle of literally nowhere bro! You can do it just put your mind to it and most importantly be yourself! People like authenticity. Heck i'm just trying to help but I can't really help too much with my 5 subs ;D Lol
Thanks for tour advices, often my subscribers ask me to make a vlog and I answer : no sorry not know nothing happen in my life etc ... BUT ! I decided to vlog tomorrow, I'm going to do some shopping with my cousins and I enjoy that kind of day so this is the best day to do a vlog ! good evening from France ! :-*
Dig the advice Peter! I'm just about to hit episode 150 myself and I feel like I am just hitting my stride and settling into my style. Trying to learn and grow everyday.
You, my man, are such a motivator. I watch your RUclips vlogs at night and want to get out of bed to start writing script... Thanks Pete. By the way, because of you, I did spend over 4,000.00 on a Canon D80 with tons of assessors. Drones are getting expensive buddy. Lol... love it though. You’ll see me soon on RUclips.
It's 2021, I am watching this because I want to get inspired. I loved how I remember your old videos had you making yourself coffee...looking back, your channel have become so big Peter! Till now I am still watching you and Matti because I found out that I got interested in film-making/content creating 💯😌
Just started vlogging because Casey said aspiring filmmakers should do it to practice storytelling. Enjoying it so far but I'm still shy and I don't know what to say! Thanks for the tips Peter! Amazing content as always!
Hi Peter! This video will always be my favourite. It’s a difficult time we’re living now, well, currently i’m unemployed & it’s difficult for me to cope with the expectations of the society. I appreciate your vlogs. It’s genuinely good. Cheers from Singapore! :)
Just came across by this video by accident.... let's put it this way. I felt like a little girl sitting on a chair, not moving a listening.... you were clear as clear can get... and I know my plan for tomorrow... THANK YOU...:)
I've recently started my trek into RUclips, I am by no means an experienced content creator but this video has been in my top 10 to gaining the confidence to go on this journey and sharing my passions so I just wanted to thank you for this video! Very well said, easy and simply advice to follow, and broke down some of the mental barriers I've had about starting a RUclips. Mahalo Nui Loa
awesome vdeo this really helped me as im a bit nervous about vlogging in an airport on monday but this won't stop me be a photographer loved as usual:)
Absolutely love this, Peter. You've really inspired me to try and turn my channel into more than just a channel that films simple b-roll videos of cars. Vlogging is something I've wanted to do for a while now but haven't built the courage to start BUT now... I'll begin preparing for it and really just take the leap. Thank you!!
I'm a winemaker in Napa Valley... going to start my vlog as I get to hang out with wine industry leaders and am fortunate enough to drink some of the most insane wines on the planet... that and we get pretty loopy from time to time. You're a huge inspiration Peter. Thanks for all you do.
I loved this video and starting tomorrow I will be uploading a video on my channel every single day ! I have already planned them and I am very excited for the world to see them. In the mean time if even one of you would spend a few minutes of your life watching this film I made it would mean the world to me - ruclips.net/video/dEfwjZZeBC4/видео.html This is the first film I have ever made and I have put a lot of effort into it.
Hey Peter! Love this vid. I actually JUST started vlogging and I love it. You have some real good insight that I found out myself and no one opened my eyes to the fact that people will follow me and my personality. Love your vids bro. JQ
Old video I know but this is exactly why I'm watching right now, your personality makes watching this content better. There are a number of providers putting out similar content but I'm not watching them as much.
just sat here nodding along to every single point. I'm going to start uploading everyday and my first thought was my life not interesting enough. but i've found my way to make interesting content everyday. great video
Authenticity I guess is what Peter’s key note. I’m profoundly shaked with this great perception. Making a dull scene into something audience can’t get eyes off... is biggest challenge. Thanks for sharing this invaluable idea
Man, now that I'm vlogging and from a tiny town, I needed to hear this lol My town literally has nothing to vlog about so I write story boards like my journey to getting Oreo cookies lol
well, I can share a little history here if you guys wanna know, I started vloggin when I left my country for a little trip to Italy and I did it very well for the first time in public ! well i've put the videos on and then I started to vlog in my country, Portugal, and I found out that it is really hard more than those days spent in Italy ! So for you guys that are thinking about to starting to vlog take a good chance on your next trip!
I find it easier to vlog in public than with friends! Mostly because in public I don't know anybody so I don't care. Does that make sense? 😂 I feel like I have it backwards
1. You're the story. 2. Share what you love. 3. Make a Plan 4. Have Fun- Sharing is fun! Hey Peter, I'm a newtuber and just getting the hang of vlogging. Thank you so much for this! Learned a lot.
Why didn't I watch this before? I'd say Vlogging is my weakest point in creating content. I can't find the confidence and patient to just make it happen. I like having control and being behind the camera, that's the thing. Thanks for this Peter! Big fan right here
Great points! I gotta just have more fun with it. Also, I've been going through some of my old vlogs and it's crazy how much I've improved. Practice REALLY matters!
ya fs fs. I just made a few vlogs, it's my few and I put a lot of time into it. It's only 3 minutes of your entire day to watch and it'll make mine! (sorry to self promote btw but I have no clue how else to get recognized)
I’m an introvert working on getting out of my comfort zone. A self conscious individual with a desire to overcome it. I no longer want to be a slave to my insecurities. The world needs more positivity and I want to do my part before I leave this place.
hi peter, vlogging in public is like a sinkhole for me haha.. your energy shrinks slowly infront of the camera.. people are like staring at you for a moment.. the only way is to get use to it.. thanks for this awesome advice!!
Thanks Peter! I just finished shooting and editing 80% of a vlog which I’m going to upload tonight. I didn’t script anything just shot from the hip but I agree - having a plan is important to deliver the content I want to well! Thank you! I will tag you in my next upload! 😊
Today's video is completely different from previous videos, I can totally differentiate it. Thank You for showing support, you do understand. Love your Sweater by the way :)
I keep referencing this video to anything and everything on our AGSC Productions channel. In a way our very first video, which is just me vlogging in the parking lot of Peets Coffee (lol), is all because you inspired me to start. It's only a month later, and although small, we have had significant progress and have already shot a major production music video with my producer/collaborator in music, Jackie Dope. This is the real life effect you have on this world and I hope to reproduce a tenth of the inspiration you give. You deserve every success, and you have been a major positive addition in the Cinematography, Videography, and photography world, and even more so everywhere else. Thank you for everything, and see you at the top.
Dude your like the best teacher ever had. I've been looking for someone to teach me skills of photography, videography and I'm happy I found you. I love your videos. Your awesome, thank you so much for sharing your advice and skills to us to learn and grow our skills, it's very helpful.
I started vlogging during covid, then stopped because of that exact reasons you covered, not to what to vlog about, public vlogs felt uncomfortable and felt people looking. I recorded a vlog yesterday. And wasn’t sure if I’d upload it. But after watching your video, I think I will. Thank bro for the words of wisdom and for the confidence. Keep up the great work. Thank you
VLOGING IN PUBLIC ! :( :D I was so glad to hear that it is not just me who feels completely weird talking to camera when people are passing by. I'm so glad that you're making these videos.. for me as a youtube beginner it is a great motivation.
I am and have been following these tips to the best of my ability. I feel like my vlogs are actually decent, but I need to work on consistency. It is hard with school right now :(
oldie but goldies! thx for all your vids on how to make vlog, story etc! For my next trip to Scotland with my daughter in April 2023, you encouraged me to make a little Script for this adventure for.
Literally haven't started because I live in the middle of nowhere (like 2 hours just to get TO the grocery store...we're talking a 6 hour trip if I just get groceries gas and go to the chiropractor 😂) And straight up called me out 😂
Vlogging in public - How do YOU feel about it?
Peter McKinnon it can make me feel a bit nervous but i'm fine with it because its vlogging 😀😀😀
Peter McKinnon Vlogging is the best thing ever
I like to do it, but I still feel like an idiot when I do.
Peter McKinnon thanks for advice

Ali Abdaal Ali, glad to see you here. I watch all your content and classes on Skillshare, you inspire me to do my own video.
omg this is sooo weird to see this because i actually watch your content!! ahhh
@@zahrak5209 I know same!

Good to see you here as well!
Vlogging in public feels like wearing socks in the shower.
I was gonna say it feels lik vlogging in public :P
socks and underwear in the shower lol

hahaha Maybe thats why I don't do it!!!
7 years later and this is the most relevant video ive seen in a while
I'm 60 and have been vlogging for almost a year now. Thanks Peter for being such a fun inspiration in this new adventure. You're leaving a wonderful legacy for your family. Keep em' coming :)
Hi Greg! You're awesome!
We need more vloggers like Peter, he's a real creative just living life and working.
I'm trying! Been vlogging with a purpose and love for my craft for the past 8 years!
Just seems more genuine than most, hopefully that doesn't change.
There are! It's just really hard to get noticed on the internet
And sharing his knowledge is just a perk to his vlogs!
ARXV Photo agreed
This is so true! People watch vlogs because they love the person or family, not specifically what they are doing!
Freedom In A Budget its so true i felt like that in the beginning now i simply make vlogs of whatever i do lol

Thanks I appreciate it! and yeah I dont have a mini tripod yet but once I get one! no more shaking! lol!

Fantastic thoughts Peter. Thank you for the inspiration. Come to India sometime, I'll show you around.
@dhruv joshi but he is more Indian than us xD
4 years later and I'm rewatching this while actually writing out and planning my first vlog and youtube channel. I appreciate you and your content.
How’s the planning process going a month on? Using this comment as accountability for myself, I need to get some content edited I’ve been slacking 😅
I'm right behind you starting next month
Sameeee
its been a year
@Driss this is the biggest callout I've ever received. Fair play.
We loved this video! However I think the main issue we have is with how we don't leave the house much except to go to our boring day jobs. I think the hardest part for us personally is coming up with the plan part of things. Thanks for the inspiration!

Philip Warren Gertsson know the feeling🙈
Gotta sit down and do it anyway tho :D
That's what stopped it for me, just couldn't hack the editing, takes aaaages.
Rob Speaking I guess you gotta push through and break that code. I haven't yet, but still I try to upload weekly if I am bothered. Seems like you're doing well tho, reincarnate your channel and keep pushing man!

Me too! Let’s do it 😁 this video is super unique in terms of advice, thank you!
Im the "STORY" Im the "BRAND" Im the "PRODUCT" 😍 this lines got me motivated 💪
The most encouraging thing he said in this is that even he feels sometimes awkward vlogging in public

Ok I feel like this is very encouraging for people who feel like their life isn't that "exciting." Thanks!
ya fs fs. I just made a few vlogs, it's my few and I put a lot of time into it. It's only 3 minutes of your entire day to watch and it'll make mine! (sorry to self promote btw but I have no clue how else to get recognized)
I know that this is an older video but I just found it. Great motivation talk. Loved it.
I seriously just keep coming back to it lol

Distilled...Have a good time and keep the cameras rolling.
I’m an introvert working on getting out of my comfort zone. A self conscious individual with a desire to overcome it. I no longer want to be a slave to my insecurities. The world needs more positivity and I want to do my part before I leave this place.
Looks like you've been doing the work. Wish you much success! 🥳
GOD! You have seriously become my favorite RUclipsR! Subbed like 2-3 minutes into the first video I watched of yours!
ImAndresPorras Pete is such an awesome motivator and teacher.
Rob Dymott Without a doubt! already learned a ton from his videos!
me too !!!
ImAndresPorras i was like that the first time i saw him and then i became a vlogger to lol and i love it
I totally agree man! His content is just so captivating! Even his making coffee scenes can keep me glued to RUclips for 20 minutes!
Thanks you so much for this video Peter, all your videos has helped me so much and encouraged me to make my own videos.
One love ❤️
Damn this seriously came at the perfect time, I’m starting a vlog today. Cheers man
Haha! get after it!
hi peter, vlogging in public is like a sinkhole for me haha.. your energy shrinks slowly infront of the camera.. people are like staring at you for a moment.. the only way is to get use to it.. thanks for this awesome advice!!
One of my friends just told me about your channel and as an aspiring Vlogger, I’m excited to learn from you!!!
This video deserves 5M viewers!
Great Inspiration!
I loved this video... Extremely motivational.. Love your style and energy. God bless you.
Thanks Pete! I come back to this video regularly for a reminder on why we do what we do as vloggers! You are the man.
Thanks Peter for the motivation! This is why your channel is so awesome!
Aaron Geyer so awesome. Motivation is why I Watch most videos!
That makes sense! I'm not sure why I watch videos. Maybe because it is magical. There is something about this art form that gives so much freedom!
I'm watching this 5 years later and its still so evergreen
HAHA! I literally (seconds ago) just finished cutting a video of me cleaning out my truck!
Love it!!
Because of this vid I decided to post my first vid! it's not great, I'm awkward af but I've posted! You're an inspiration!
Consistency is key. The awkward-ness will leave after a few videos! I'll check you out keep it up!
You've at least made an effort which is more than a lot of people. I'm going to do the same!
I subbed! Get back on it Raquel!
Thank you! i will!
Don’t stop now, keep posting the early videos, in fact every video is important in your journey!
"Hey, I'm filling up my gas tank." 😂
Yep, I don't like coffee... but peter is my best friend, who doesn't even know me.
Awwww I'm sure he sees your comments! x
Joe mama
Random Joe I don’t like coffee, but tea works. Can I make it look interesting??
same here :))
Came back after six months to rewatch this video, only to become sad that I couldn’t add a second like to it 😄😭
you could always unlike then like again! hahahah!
This comment is your second like.
Awesome video ! Thanks for the information! I love to vlog !
Dude your like the best teacher ever had. I've been looking for someone to teach me skills of photography, videography and I'm happy I found you. I love your videos. Your awesome, thank you so much for sharing your advice and skills to us to learn and grow our skills, it's very helpful.
Never clicked so fast on a video 😀
Old but Gold! I needed this, thanks for amazing content Peter 🙏
You forgot one very important piece of advise: you're a pro at editing! Us noobs can barely export a damn video without a laptop crashing lol.
Thank you
OK, now I need to find a video on How to find your passion :D
And I need to find a video on finding a video on how to find your passion to vlog...hahahs
VLOGING IN PUBLIC ! :( :D I was so glad to hear that it is not just me who feels completely weird talking to camera when people are passing by. I'm so glad that you're making these videos.. for me as a youtube beginner it is a great motivation.
yup i agree im so scared to post or vlog in front of any person even my family you got my like!
I am and have been following these tips to the best of my ability. I feel like my vlogs are actually decent, but I need to work on consistency. It is hard with school right now :(
Keep it up bro. Your content is great. You will hit 1000 subs soon for sure
Oscar Woods you got some skills man. Keep at it on your own terms.
Oscar Woods I so get that man! Keep it up though
Keep it up dude, consistency is my rough patch too!
Oscar Woods keep working bro. The results will come if you keep it consistent.
oldie but goldies! thx for all your vids on how to make vlog, story etc! For my next trip to Scotland with my daughter in April 2023, you encouraged me to make a little Script for this adventure for.
Your vids Peter inspire the inspiration and vlog drive within us! Thanks 🙏
Literally haven't started because I live in the middle of nowhere (like 2 hours just to get TO the grocery store...we're talking a 6 hour trip if I just get groceries gas and go to the chiropractor 😂)
And straight up called me out 😂
