What a time. Dash 8’s pulling metroliner cab cars, F40’s with beautiful P5’s, phase three paint, private cars up front and Santa Fe running right beside it all. I wish I was there to experience that
It’s a lot more beautiful to see the glory memories of riding or viewing to see giants of steel, to clattering down the tracks, hauling freights and people throughout across the American’s rail infrastructure from back in early 1980’s and late 1990’s.
8:17 AWESOME K5LA air horn produced by the Amfleet cab control car especially the sudden increase in volume pitch on the 4th air horn blast of the Long-Long-Short-Long sequence. 😍 For those who agree, crank up your volumes to max sound, especially on the 4th air horn blast!
All of these Beasts of engines rolling around. The 90’s had the absolute best diesels in my opinion, not only these shown but the Genesis was on the way as well. Not only should they haven’t had replaced any of these powerhouses but I don’t think they ever should’ve changed that simple but great paint scheme either
This is the first Pentrex video I’ve seen with the narrator being a chicky. At least with Dave Drui, he had that amazing radio like voice that made these videos even more enjoyable beside the trains. This narrator doesn’t sound like she enjoys this one bit! Almost like being forced to read the script.
I saw this when I was like 5 or 6 years old and I enjoyed this a lot. Even though I had no idea what anything the narrator was saying meant. Nowadays that’s a different story lol
19:44 I was there last weekend for train watching. Also there’s a goof on 20:45. When the Narrator says southbound on this Amtrak train, it’s actually heading northbound. Also I’m going to model this in HO Scale as well.
Pretty facinating! Amtrak runs San Diego to LA Union Station and points beyond and Metrolink now runs from Oceanside to LA. Metrolink has a really good deal on the weekends!
the SP Railroad Police caboose on the intermodal, the CF7, the train at 11:05, the shot at 30:20, and the movie train at 36:38 were my favorite parts of this video.
I love this video, please make sure this video does not get deleted. Because I really want to see the Amtrak trains from this video, with their former beautiful red white and blue colors to live on through this video on RUclips
Does anyone remember the Pentrax take on the surf liner? It had film on the then new Metrolink, a cab ride on the Surfliner and (I think) footage from when the ICE came through California.
California may have its problems, but at least the conversation of improving and building new transit started in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s instead of now.
Early 1992 most likely. Metrolink is mentioned as a thing, but is not truly operational, which happened on October 26, 1992. However, their first F59PHs were not delivered until 1992, and we see 2 of them coupled up to a test consist at LAUPT, meaning this can't be earlier than 1992. The fact they're paired with Superliners instead of the intended Bilevel coaches also indicates this was probably filmed just after they arrived.
It’s 1993. They talk about the special train for the Super Bowl, which was held in Glendale, California in 1993. (With MJ doing the half time show). Not to mention Metrolink service didn’t start till October 1992.
Amtrak had commercial ads in spanish around the time of this film. stop saying “back in my day when nothing was as terrible as it is today.” it’s not getting you anywhere. things change, stop adding illegal immigration for the cause of your problem with today’s high population, you sound racist. each generation had terrible and good things happen.

Yeah, I remember watching this when I was a Kid in my bedroom on my old 📼. It brings me back good old memories from my Childhood☺️.

Agreed 100% that does sound amazing!
I Got to Say, The F40PH and GE B32-8WH Pepsi Can Are Classic, In a Fact I Do Love These Paint Schemes and Locomotives
I’m with you there i love the Pepsi can scheme dash 8’s
Wow. This is like a time capsule. I bet this would be fun to show people who ride these trains today
My favorite of this series was the continental one with the VIA train
For those wondering there was no film called "Triple indemnity" the movie was actually titled "Fatal Instinct"
This Is Great We Love Trains We All Love 😘😘😘 Trains 🚂 🚂 🚂 😊😊😊😊💕💕💕 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ 💕

Insane how much of the Surfline has been double tracked, and how much SoCal has grown in the past 30 years!

Yeah, it sounds more like a news report than a railfanning documentary, like she’s not at all enthusiastic about it

Metrolink, plans to run to San Diego, Coaster intends to run to Anaheim and Amtrak already does both!
12:02 - 12:03 that dust getting kicked up from under the diamond... 0____o

This is a great video I d like to add this to my DVD library I like having that lady narrator That is cool !
Soothing.
21:21 Ah the old Pepsi can schemed dash 8 which by the way is one of the best paint schemes that Amtrak ever came up with
It’s very surreal to see Oceanside almost thirty years ago. You can’t even tell how empty it was around the train station now
Amtrak Surfline featuring Amtrak San Diegan, AAPRCO, and Pacific Surfliner for 50th Anniversary.
I remember this old movie

Surf Line Commuters by Valhalla Video Productions
The rest of your great American scenic railroad videos have been taken down. I sincerely hope you’re working out the problem to re-upload them
I hope so too.
2:50 what about the sunset limited?
What movie did the narrator say was being filmed in Carlsbad

Where is this from?
I'm guessing this footage is from 1993.

I do remember seeing these restored Metroliners in use in SoCal in the early 90's.
@@jaminova_1969 It was possible to see Metroliner cab cars in SoCal as late as 2001. They were all in Delaware by April 2005 though.

California back in the 80’s before the bazillions of illegal immigrants flooded into the place turning I-5 into the worlds largest parking lot.
