I rode the Ghan 50 years ago when the rails were laid in the earth using no ties. 3 day trip. Lots of entertainers on the train too. Fun trip.

I am watching from S1E01...this is S1E05... All the episodes are so so awesome, I wish I get lot of such smiliar episodes, bringing my childhood memories back !
Lot of time and man hours would be spent to get these video footages. Great work!
I'm much of a train fan, Traveling to native / grandparents place( From a place called bangalore to Kerela Alleppy) in India from childhood, most of my 1000kms journey would be evening 7PM to morning 7am, I used to stay awake in night to have a count of street lights in desolated stretch, a pocket FM and headphones along with the music of the rails, do some interesting stuffs 😂
We had around 15-20 major stations and brief stops picking up passengers and goods, I used to ( and still do 😁) get down off the train in stations grab a coffee from coffee guys, keeping my eyes on the distant train signal switching from red - orange and green so I can safely board,we had manual doors and still do have Manual doors in most of our passenger trains, except few new models and superfast trains.
    Unforgettable memories :)

What a maneuver! The two trains had to be lined up perfectly with constant radio contact to the driver for what? Two tiny boxes of scallops? I thought they'd be fire brigading hundreds of pounds of food. Shoulda just thrown them to the manager as the train was passing.

Seems like a very interesting topic, but the first minute already seems way too overdramatised. I'm unsure if I'll watch it.

We also rode the Indian Pacific from Adelaide to Sydney in first class. This was October 1994

You would think that with such heavy traffic running on a single line, over vast distances, the RR would’ve added a second parallel line, with a lot of switch tracks, to ease up congestion. But of course, I believe everything comes down to $$$ and need.

At 7:45 he says, the trains are running over that point weighing 5000 tons each time they pass.
That is NOT exactly right. The train may be 5000 tons, but the point of impact on the exact track point
of the track, is only the weight of the carriage crossing over it. tell me I am wrong. And I will prove I am right...
ie if 1 cow steps on your toe, you may yelp ouch, if a herd steps on your toe one after the other
for 500 cows, you won't have a toe... lol
