  • Come for a trip on Australia's most epic railway journey, The Indian Pacific, all the way from Sydney to Perth via Adelaide and the Nullarbor.
This is a four-day, three-night 4352km journey traverses mountain ranges, arid deserts as well as the longest straight stretch of railway in the world, all in air-conditioned comfort with sumptuous three-course meals.
Named for the two oceans the train encounters on its journey, the Indian Pacific travels between Perth, Adelaide and Sydney on a spectacular 4352km crossing.
Find out why this transcontinental train is considered one of the world's great railway journeys.

Dad left his home town and ended up in Peterborough looking for work in 58 . He got a job in the Railway Roundhouse. He shortly after met Mum who was a Nurse in Training at the P'borough Hospital , when he was admitted for a bad fall. Mum's Family are Railway Family . They all left around 1962. They can remember it being so cold it was snowing , but they remember it being Boiling Hot Climate

A freight train carrying food to Perth runs along the railway line that you took from Sydney via Adelaide to Perth. A freight train transporting food consists of the following parts:
at the beginning there are two diesel electric locomotives, behind which there is first a freight car that has two smaller container tanks with fuel for the locomotives, the next car is a passenger car in which one controller sits, behind the passenger car there are several freight cars which transport two container refrigerators standing on top of each other and finally there are refrigerator wagons.

This train journey in platinum service is at the top of my bucket list. Nothing like this exists in the U.S. We had 1 ocean to ocean line here that ran from the Atlantic to the Pacific, but it was destroyed by a hurricane, and isn’t likely to be replaced anytime soon.

@@PaulaBean Sorry for the delay in responding. It was as excellent as this video showed. The staff were very friendly and professional, the off train excursions were very interesting but due to the time constraints of track usage a couple of them were not available, this was conveyed at the time of booking so there weren't any surprises in that regard and from 2025 onwards the journey will be over 5 days instead of four so that should hopefully solve this.
The food was phenomenal, truly some of the best I've ever tasted. Even the light snacks they provide before boarding are great.
All in all it was well worth the price.

One of the many highlights experienced on the Indian Pacific was the food. The food served on this train was the best ever eaten in Australia. And, when you observe how tiny the galley actually is, you find it difficult to believe that such quality can be prepared in such minute facilities.

Wow, epic journey and a great video documenting it! Back in the day, I did Sydney to Adelaide when the Indian Pacific still had a seating coach - I think it would be good to reintroduce it as a regular passenger service on the route as well.

That’s an interesting dilemma - the ability to properly sleep on an overnight train. I’ve never been on an overnighter, increasingly throughout Europe many more such services are being re-opened. As a chronic insomniac, I question how well rested did you feel after this trip? Or any other overnight train?

@@Hongaars1969 Sleeping can be a struggle. I’m a light sleeper too. However, the more nights you’re aboard, the easier it gets. And I generally find I can cope the next day after one night’s poor sleep (as long as it’s just one). 🤔

Lovely video of the best train trip in Australia! I took my 5th Indian Pacific trip 14 months ago with my Guide Dog and we had such a great time. As always the crew were amazing and looked after us very well. We had Cameron just on the trip between Adelaide and Sydney but between Perth and Adelaide we had a crew with a Journey Mannager I've met before which was exciting. I did some videos about the trip from an accessability point of view. I look forward to hearing another video soon.

The number of Platinum carriages has been reduced from 4 to 2, as the demand has dropped on account of the exorbitant prices. @@FromtheWindowSeat I found the single cabins perfectly adequate. Wind the blind up and it makes the room feel quite spacious! For those who find it a little too small you can always spend more time in the lounges. A lady on my trip had booked a Gold Twin cabin but evidently she was quite claustrophobic and couldn't stay in it. She slept in the lounge each night.
