I honestly do not see much of a "change" in Taylor that everyone is freaking out over. Besides having more "darker" visuals ,which I would compare to 2000's Lady Gaga and no darker than that, and a different tone in her music, I can't see it any more different than that...The subjects and lyrics in this song have all been used in her previous works, besides the more recent events in her life she references which at the end of the day is the same petty bullshit...In my opinion, everyone in this day and age judges music mostly by the look and aesthetic more than the music itslef and so, "ooooo she's wearing a studied leather jacket in her video now with zombies and such. She must be really edgy now." Yeah no. There is way more that she could have done to truly convey a more darker tone and style this song but, it's just the same junior high esque drama crap but with a halloweeny vibe.

I can't stand it in pop music where stars pretend to feud or whatever for the sake of selling music, or sell music around a feud. In this situation it's a real feud and both Kanye and Kim are in the wrong (when are they ever in the right) but this has got to be the only time in the last 7 years when a feud between celebrities isn't staged to sell products.

What I like to compare it to is the 30 year Metallica vs Megadeth feud, they traded blows but always kept a level of respect for each other, and then once they finally ended it there was a huge level of satisfaction that it’s been resolved (that pic of James and Dave hugging on stage at the big four show is still one of my favorites)

At 18:45 you touch on something that really bothers me. I refuse to ever pay for a "meet and greet package". I think that anyone who will charge money for you to be in their presence thinks way too much of themselves. I went to a Testament concert and they had "VIP packages" but here's the thing. They were walking around outside talking to their fans who didn't get the package because they respect their fans. I got to shake Chuck Billy's hand and the rest of the band was totally approachable to me when I didn't even get the package. Also, their package came with all kinds of exclusive merchandise which means they weren't necessarily charging for fans to meet them. Totally class act, not like Taylor, but perhaps they haven't made enough money to be corrupted.
I can see charging for a VIP package, but I'm still with you. At the end of the day you need to be a real person and meet the real people who appreciate your work. HERE'S THE THING: when you get to the level of fame of a Taylor Swift a great number or your fans can be........over-zealous. So that can have an effect on you meeting your fans in person. Look up Beatlemania if you're not familiar.

I've seen Metallica drive by their fans standing in line and talk to them through their windows, that's at least something. Sometimes at festivals they will be out watching other bands and talking to fans unbeknownst to the masses. Definitely get you though.

Yeah dont overlook the safety part, more fame is more attention and not all of it is good. Some people are dangerous and one way to try to keep em off is charging money. Not just pop artists do these upcharge vip things either though, and hey its a bit of a marketing thing but you do get a good experience and sweet exclusive merch usually, I guess.

So I too consider myself somewhat of a music snob. I've been studying music since I was 7 and have built a good ear for musicality and musicianship. My girlfriend is a music fan, but not quite a musician. She LOVES LOVES LOVES Taylor. She has also made me appreciate Taylor as a musician, though I'm still not a fan of her music. I will gladly admit that there are a few songs from 1989 that are exceptional pop songs. Anyways, I've listened to this song 3 or 4 times at this point, and I came to the EXACT SAME conclusion that you just did my friend. That chorus is just odd, it doesn't suit the song musically, it doesn't make sense from someone who is supposed to be this musical savant, and honestly, it's annoying as fuck! Also, totally agree that this is a pretty weak showing for someone we all know can write a catchy damn tune. On the flip side, you can't knock her fans who, as of last I saw, have watched the video on RUclips nearly 60 million times already, and it hasn't even been 48 hours. If this is what an "ok" song is doing, if her second single is a better song...hopefully RUclips has its servers updated and ready to go...
