Oh man! My grandpa had a truck like this from the late 70s to almost the late 00s by the end of it's life it had a big block 572 built like hell and still drove it nearly daily till he passed away and it was sold

The intake manifold and parts I've been waiting on came in late this afternoon. In the morning putting it on and hooking up all the hoses and adding all the fluids. Then running to get the bed and tailgate and start sanding it and get it painted by the afternoon. Looking forward to cranking it up and pulling it out front and giving it a good wash and detail job

She had no clue what she was doing and she acted like she wasn't too sure where she was. We finally got the bed home around 4pm and was too tired to do anything but get it into the backyard til tomorrow morning. I forgot to mention they lost my reservation. We were up at 7am ready to go pick up the trailer. Uhaul needs to get their shit together because I got transferred to a Uhaul store in Toronto Canada twice. It was close to 3 before they got everything straightened out and had a trailer for me. Was an extremely long and frustrating day

They were both in very good condition and honestly the guy could of gotten more than the $150 he was asking. He just needed it off the property and wouldn't accept more for it. Plus he said the moment he heard everything I've been doing to my truck he wanted me to have it. Very nice guy
@@kevinross2703 my dads 36 chevy had tank down low wasn't squirrely in ran or on wet roads. Couple of guys in club had them on top of frame rails and we would have to slow way down or stop because they were all over the place. That's why he mounted it low. You want to keep everything low for a better center of gravity. Cool truck.

I would change things to what I like and it is a lot different in terms of feel, I like the street approach and pinstriping is a art form that is way cool. Obviously I'm old cause the way I talk. I'm 72 and built Mmm, lost count for sure. I like big blocks and love music from the pipes. I don't like side dumps as they burn everything they get near when doing the fuel so out the back and stainless pipe. Wheelie bars are nice touch but four link is the right way on C10's. I love the red color to the max. Yet out in front on the aprons is in your face. I like serpentine belts and V belts just talk problems. I think the fuel is wrong if your making it a daily driver and not putting the title up on he week ends. My Ford Hi Body with 427 and all cobra jet everything including bottom of block. Braces and side bolts, locks, it never wiggled at all and at polar race track without getting stupid would get in the thirteen low end... pulled some twelves too. The truck was full on one ton aluminum bed dually 4x4 with the ten bolt wheels. All steel and chromed out to a sparkle. I even broke one of those seven hundred dollar wheels on the track and the crowd took up a fund and got me another one cause you don't go in to a tire store an say... Ya, give me six of those steelies. I run a hood with a full tilt front that was special. You could grab it while it was up and try to shake it but no wiggles and you could lock it up cause I liked driving around with it up on the track before races. I put my window in it so I had a ten inch screen to see through but it would be crazy to drive it that way. Trucks name: Widow Maker with it pinstriped by me in the low corners of front fenders. My album was in the truck when it burn to a crisp and these cameras were just... this was 1997 and I couldn't spell camera.. We didn't have internet here then and what we started with was so sad that I dropped it for a long time and then in five brought it back. A fuel truck caught fire on the far side of it so driver nearly got burnt cause he didn't see it either. My truck was parked about three down and in line for fuel to... ave gas. It run better with it and the engine was built for it. No valves flouting on tops. It hurt for a long while cause it was real bad but the insurance made me feel better. I got to thinking about having a life and didn't build again and of course I got crippled in 2005 on first day Oct., so it ended my days of doing the swan in my garage that had two lifts... It hurts worse losing all that when money came due and I had spent everything to fix my back and neck.

I have a 80 c10 short bed and my 700r4 is burned and was thinking of going towards a th400 so it can last me. what do you think? and what gear would i need to have to be street and little highway use? thank you
Hey, Marco - I would definitely stay with the overdrive, especially if your reared gearing is already suitable for it. You're going to find that these trucks are much more enjoyable to drive on the highway with overdrive and the right gearing. We typically run anywhere from 3.42-3.73 for street trucks. If you're dead set on th350 or 400, I'd suggest something in the 3.07 range.

I want more of a race truck but crusier too. If you think i can get that out of a 700r4, then i'll find someone to rebuilt it. I want a nice trans with shift kit to churp the tires when needed lol
I have a 700r in 46 Ford Sedan and I love it on the street I can drive it anywhere and get good fuel mileage, I chose to go with the 350 turbo in truck and used a 3.42 with a tall tire which helps the gear ratio to help not turn so many rpms on highway. Just my opinion if you plan on putting it on track might want to go with 350 or 400 they are alot cheaper to build and hold up for any power, 700r can be built for the track but more expensive. Now this information has come from the guy that builds my transmissions
Yo whitlock need your opinion on my drop... I’m doing a 4/6 drop on my 86 c10 swb.... factory suspension... I’m goin with a western chassis kit.. there’s two to choose from one with front spindles and one without.... (“Front spindles are for the heavy duty Chevy and GMC C10 trucks with a rotor thickness of 1.25".”) is what it says also this one makes it 4.5/6 drop... What do you think?? Do I need the spindle kit or nahhhh? Thanks
@@fuhkshet9703 not sure but you can't go that low without spindles. On mine I used 2.5" spindle and cut one coil from stock springs and a maxtrax flip in the rear.
Tell him if he's going to redo rear suspension to look into moving fuel tank lower in frame. Definitely improve handling in all conditions. That's a lot of weight up high on the rear. Once it gets a swingin it's hard to rangle it back in.
Yeah I know it would help, I made it light in the rear for a reason makes for a better show, and I wanted the tank in the bed more for looks than anything. Besides in my opinion when your at a show and people throw water out for burnouts nothing looks cooler than rolling burnout

I took the original motor mounts out mocked up the engine to sit where I wanted made my own mounts and welded them to crossmember then notched the frame so headers would clear didnt cut a straight line I cut the frame around the headers so it looked like the frame was never touched. Made the tranny crossmember so everything looked like it was made for the truck. Didnt cut or beat the firewall for more clearance it's still the way it come from factory

Just have some respect for a job well done, even if you don't agree with the origins of its power. In my opinion, the sound of a big V8 trumps the 7 second track time. You don't have to be fast if you have a big motor.

I have a 1979 c10 8 foot bed 2wd ,needs some cab work just floor pans rockers and cab corners have very little rust , wheel fender arches is the only other rust in truck 3500 whole 2500 body only. 350 4 bolt main out of a 78 4x4. Dam a tunnel ram and some spacers that are 2or3 " that intake probably sweats like a beer can. Those trucks have a ton of room under the hood. Very nice project.

Understand that. I would have the 700r4 rebuilt and then look into a set of gears and a posi or limited slip rear differential.

To make that 4.5 inch drop it is a 2" drop spring and 2.5" drop spindle so if you buy the kit without the spindle you will supply your own

You need spindles and springs in front and flip kit in rear. That will get you 4.5/6. Western Chassis is good stuff.

Dam a tunnel ram and some spacers that are 2or3 " that intake probably sweats like a beer can. Those trucks have a ton of room under the hood. Very nice project.

It really doesn't it runs good I just adjust the timing accordingly to the season and it runs 195 all the time never a over heating issue

It's under the house, kinda on the fence about putting it back on I've run it without a hood for so long kinda got use to it being off
