- In this video, I repair the convertible top not working on a 93 Mustang. These instructions will work on 87 to 93 Mustangs and are similar on 83 to 86 Mustangs. The top would not come up without helping it. The cylinders were also leaking out of the quarter panel drains.

I found your vid while looking to see which hose feeds the up, and which one is for down operation. (Mine had crumbled into a dozen pieces.)
That’s is way more than needs done for this job.
I know you are finished with it, but for anyone reading this, heres a tip.
Do this job with the top UP, and they both slide right out, and right in.
These cylinders WILL come out and go in without any major disassembly, aside from rear seat and panel removal.
The only thing that needs to be unbolted is the piece that holds the cylinder. And it can be removed without taking anything else apart.
I just replaced the hoses
on mine yesterday. It was literally less than an hour do do the entire swap.

Can these brackets move the whole top forward and backward? When my top was done my guide pins never line up and is very difficult to lock the top down once opened.
Yes, these brackets adjust how the top aligns.

I got most of the parts from Autozone.
I am almost complete with this project but missing eyelet bushings. The cylinders are in place but keep popping off because no bushings on cylinders. I saw in the video you popped yours off? Do those matter? My cylinders would fall off on one side when I hit the top button the top would be moving but wouldn’t stay in place. Possibly because the bushings were not on there at all? Do you have any recommendations where to get some from? I heard the newer plastic ones don’t work great. Thank you
Is the cylinder falling off the bottom bracket? If that is the case, it sounds like you are missing the alignment bushings on the top bracket.
@@chasingmustangs I believe everything is in place I gave it a test run and the top is not
wanting to shut. When I looked at the cylinders one side had falling off the stud where the bracket is. The rod at the top is in place and I kept the old bushings and switched it over. I was assuming it was the white plastic eyelet bushings I am missing. It is forcing it out when I use the top.
@parkerhoffman9643 are you referring to the bushing between the top pin and cylinder? Sorry, I am bad with colors.
@@chasingmustangs not the one on top of the rod but the two white bushings on the sides of the cylinder. Without the bushings the cylinder is falling out of the bracket when using the top. I at least hope that’s the problem.
@parkerhoffman9643 ok, I have seen people purchase fuel disconnect kits and use them as the bushing guide. The cheap kit that comes with four sizes. would those cylinders stop my convertible top from folding all the way down?
If it is raining and lower without an issue, then you either have too much fluid in the system, or you need to readjust the brackets so it shuts all the way.

@hrodriguez112 There is an adjustable bracket in the middle of the support bracket. It is held on by four bolts. This bracket is adjustable and can cause issues if reversed or not installed correctly.
This should be a video on how not to change cylinders and lines on these cars. 🤦♂️ you’re not suppose to removed those brackets and all those bolts cause now you just lost all your alignment to the front windshield. All you had to do was put the top up and you can access the cylinders on both sides and the lines are also accessible on both sides and under the top well. Lots of extra work that wasent needed crazy.
