    Three beautiful guitars each with its own voice; here I play mainly Fingerstyle, using pieces and arrangements by Franco Morone Doyle Dykes and Doobie Brothers:
    -The South wind (arr. for guitar by Franco Morone);
    -Doerita Forever by Doyle Dykes;
    -Larry The Logger two-step by Doobie Brothers;

    I love comparisons like this so much. Martins have SUCH a soul to them and I love hearing, handling, seeing brand new ones as much as vintage ones. The unmarred, light top of a brand new Martin is like an infant, sure to live a long and rich life. It loves to be played and revels in making music like this as much as the player does. I can't get over it and would love to have one of each of their famous models, maybe even a young one and old one of each. They'll be my friends until I pass them along to another.

    This was an enjoyable, informative Martin comparison video. Your playing style pleasingly demonstrates the individuality of each instrument. I was on the fence recently between the 28 & 35 - I went with the 35. This video reassures me that I chose correctly. However all three sound marvelous!

    Wow fun to hear Larry the Logger two step! I learned that back in the late 1970’s when I was in high school and in the first few years of what became my life long obsession and profession playing guitar. I hadn’t ever heard anyone else play it until I’m hearing you play it all these years later. It was one of those great Chet Atkins style fingerpicking tunes (by Patrick Simmons) that seemed to go unnoticed by everyone as they were focusing on other Doobie Brothers hits of the day. Anyway great job on that tune and this was a great video! Thanks

    Enjoyed this! I also would like to have heard strumming, but still came away with some good information. I think the HD-28 sounded both full and crisp, good for me as a baritone to sing with. Thanks for posting!

    They all sound great, but I think I like the D-35 sound for trad fingerpicking. It's a bit more mellow and a little darker tone.

      Yeah, the d18 is very fast sound, for bluegrass is very right. D35 is smooth!!!!

      Grazie!!!! Each of these three guitars has its own character, all three are beautiful; perhaps the D18 is faster and better suited to bluegrass and the D35 more modern. But then again the standard Martin are truly a guitar dream.

    They all sound great. Different players will have different needs and preferences, so which is best is very much down to the individual.
    My choice was an HD28, it suited my playing needs, but the D18 is a stellar guitar, wasn’t too keen on the D35, but that’s just me. A lot of people love them.
    You pay your money and take your choice.
    Great playing.

    I'm curious about your capo setup. I am never happy with any capos I use due to tuning issues and/or buzzing etc. Does having two help keep the pressure down on the strings more consistently?

  • @dalesearcy5734

    What was with the 2 capos on the same fret?
    The D-35 sounded best to me even with one too many capos!

      Simply to increase grip, force on the strings and play without buzz or burr….. I thought it was intuitive. Thanks for comment…

    These guitar models are Strummers firstly, so he should Strum them - but No Strumming ...
