Never done this before. Watched too many videos but yours was what I needed. I was still a bit on the fence and then you laid that paint on and I was like “nailed it, this is it!!” Thanks
I just bought a house, that has this type of texture. I did some repairs to the drywall and for the sake of me I couldn't get it right. Checked dozens of videos and Yours is the only one that shows the way I need it done...👍
this is EXACTLY what my entire ceiling is! I called it "splatter" cuz it's not knockdown nor orange peel but it's "skip trowel!" Wow, I'm amazed at how well this comes out with just light pressure on the compound spreader knife to get this. Wish I'd seen this Years ago.
Excellent demonstration. No need to drag out the compressor and spraygun with the hopper. The pancake batter reference makes all the difference. Back to my bathroom remodel. Thanks
Its amazing how much BS i had to watch before i found a video worth watching, awesome job and thank you very much for your time. Anyone needing the correct answers for skip troweling...This is the video for you
You know when you are trying to learn something new and you just can’t get it, but then you finally DO get the hang of it and it’s so easy that you get that flabbergasted/tickled giggle feeling? I do! Thanks for the awesome how to!
Thanks so much for the tips on Skip Trowel because I have been in the business over 30 years and I don't see any down here in South Ga. It's mainly just slick and knockdown ceilings around here. I'm going to do a few ceilings in my house to see how it turns out with myself doing it and then I may introduce it to some new home owners around here. I seen a lot of skip trowel in Texas and California on vacation. Thanks again✌🏼
That was one of the best DIY videos that I've seen, and I've been watching a lot of them while learning how to remodel my bathroom after water damage. Thanks!
Thank you so much I've been a finished tapper for years raised in the midwest with mainly smooth walls, now living in the West, where there is Skip trial texture; I pretty much been struggling with it but as I saw you put it on with the 6-in going sideways then vertical, explains a lot thank you so much sir!!!
For you DIYers he is making this look soooo easy his technique is exactly that and yours may not come out as nice but trial and error also skip trowel work doesn't have to be uniform. Actually, it's better the more chaotic the look. Good luck. And to the finisher on this tutorial, great work! 👍
This is perfect. I took a chair rail off the wall that was nailed every 2 inches AND glued. Such awful overkill. And I have painters coming on Friday, so I need to get the texture fixed by then!! Thank you! 🧡
Thank you so much for this. I was watching other videos that added sand and this was not working out. This texture is exactly the texture on our walls!!!
Thank you! Just the video I have been looking for. I need to do a 2 foot square in my garage. Most videos are showing roll on and such. I think my house was sprayed on then knocked down. Some big and some small. I'm always looking for shapes that look like something. Found quite a few! I think I will practice on some cardboard or such first. THANKS AGAIN !!!
That’s awesome! I just to do work with with a 24” in production homes, the 6” it’s a great way to start learning skip trowel and move to a bigger knife ones you get the hang of it 😃
Nice! one of the best examples and explanation of doing this texture. I personally like to use a flexible plexiglass knife to skip because its more forgiving and easier to skip uneven drywall surface waves or bumps. great stuff
This is my favorite style of wall texture. This was in my dad’s duplex and I always wanted it in my own home. Unfortunately, my home’s walls have the stipple brush texture. I wish I could redo my home like this, but that’s way too much work. So I will just have to live with the boring stipple texture.
I agree I had to watch a bunch of BS before I found this video absolutely fantastic thank you for sharing I will be doing this this afternoon once I get the last piece of drywall up maybe tomorrow after I get it mounted today thanks again.
Thanks you so much for taking the time to comment, I just the 6” on the video so show the easy way to start doing the texture and ones you get the hang of of it it will be easier to do texture with bigger drywall knife that includes 8”, 10”, 12” and 14”
Still feels like some kind of voodoo magic to me but this is the best demo I've seen so I'll give it another shot! I've got lots of spare drywall to practice on.
Thank you so much for sharing your technique. I think I might be able to do this with your method.! I’ve been struggling at getting the texture right. You make it look so easy.
This video is great On one of my walls I already put primer because I was about to call it and have one wall not match the room. is it to later for me or can I still use this method on top of the prime
I was looking for a very light but modern texture for my kitchen ceiling, I can do everything else but making mud smooth on walls, I need alot more practice, but this is like magic, qnd seem easy with the little practice, any suggestions please, Thanks.
Great video! This is the exact texture I need to match. Following what you did, I get that type of texture but it is way smaller and not as consistent. Am I too thin, too thick, too much or too little pressure??
If you didn't fix it by now. to get a bigger texture than the one seen use a bigger knife. A 12" knife will give you a nice big pattern but use different size knife's to get different results.
I kept looking for the skip ad at the beginning. That was brutal. But overall good video. Well done with the knife, hopper gun looks better imo though.
I am struggling to replicate this texture. It's exactly what I have in my house but everytime I start a pull, I just get a solid line of mud and it pulls like I'm doing a skim coat. For a lot of each pull it's just solid mud, then in skips a little bit. Any tips for the problems I'm having? I've tried varying knife pressure and mud thickness but can't seem to find a good balance.
Hello, I had that same problem when I first started one of the main reasons was the compound mud was to thick and wasn’t letting it run across properly, other one try to pull the drywall knife a little faster don’t be afraid to add some speed when pulling the knife, keep practicing with the 6” till you get the hang of it before you move to a bigger size of drywall knife 😃 you got this 🔥👍🏼, thank you for taking the time to watch my video I really appreciate
@@remodelanddiys5115 Awesome, thanks for the reply! I was trying to use a 10" knife but will get a 6" like you used/mentioned! I'll reply with how it goes. Thanks again!
He makes it look easy, but it didn't work. I got properly mixed mud to the consistency of pancake batter and tried to use light pressure on some ceiling drywall to no avail. I've found the best way to do skip trowl on a ceiling is to apply dots of drywall mud to a sanded area (not too much and not too big), then go over with a wide trowl in the applicable direction to match finished areas. Once dry, lightly sand and good to go.
I can’t get this to work on my ceiling. the texture comes out much smaller than I need it. This texture is all over my home. I tried different thicknesses of mud, different pressures, different size knifes and Different speeds. Any other advice?

Thanks. One of the best videos out there right now on skip trowel. Only had to watch about 26 videos to get here.
This is exactly what I needed. This is the first video, of many, I watched that matched the texture on my walls and ceiling.
This is EXACTLY the texture on our walls. I'm very grateful you took the time to make this video. I just figured I was out of luck. A BIG Thank You!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and am glad the video was helpful 😃

Thanks you so much I appreciate it. 😃
Agreed!!!!!
I agree.......great job!
How about how many awful texture videos there were lol
Hey, so can i use putty to do this? Ready mix mud? Or what? @remodelanddiys5115
You know when you are trying to learn something new and you just can’t get it, but then you finally DO get the hang of it and it’s so easy that you get that flabbergasted/tickled giggle feeling?
I do!
Thanks for the awesome how to!
This is seriously the best skip trowel video I've seen
Thank you so much 😊
Great video! Exactly the tutorial I needed for my patch job

OMG!!!! Great work!!! Paul Davis destroyed my textured walls. You have giving me hope. I will work on my walls this weekend because of your video.
Thank you so much am glad this inspire you ❤️
Omg…who is Paul Davis??? Is he known for being the wall destroyer? Do tell!

🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙏🙏💐
Thanks for showing how to do this. I had a few grifters. Tried to tell me it was a special spray tip.
Try this with a wider knife, say 14 to 18 inches then repeat. Great video.
Thank you, it looks very nice. Like apartments where I laid in bed and stared at the nice patterns. Now I want to try.
For you DIYers he is making this look soooo easy his technique is exactly that and yours may not come out as nice but trial and error also skip trowel work doesn't have to be uniform. Actually, it's better the more chaotic the look. Good luck.

I watched Paul and he add some sand...But honest, yours look very nice, my favorite, thank you for sharing.
I appreciate it 😃 thank you so much for for taking the time to check out the video and comment

Oh yes I know what you mean I fix a few similar to that, glad the video was helpful 😄👍🏼
Wow excellent video. Your video was the only one that clearly explains the whole technique behind the process. I'm confident i can do it myself now.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this. I was watching other videos that added sand and this was not working out. This texture is exactly the texture on our walls!!!
Hi, am happy it was helpful thanks for watching.
You make it look soooo easy! My first few attempts looked nothing like your example. I’m still practicing though!
You got this 👍🏼 it all about practice and thanks for watching ❤️
What the?! I’ve never seen it done like this and I’m glad I did. Way easier technique. Thank you sir 👍🏽🍻
Thanks for the good tips. I love the production on the video as well. The rubber chicken worked perfectly.
Glad you like it and thank you 😊

Brilliant. I really appreciate that you covered this so.
Nice video! Thank you for doing and not doing the boring long talking like others.
Thank you so very much 😁
This is exactly the texture on my wall. Now I know how to match it after i tape and mud it. Great video 💪 🙏
Thanks you so much 😃 glad I was able to help you
It won’t be an exact match as everyone skip trowel comes out differently. But you’ll be able to get it damn close I’m sure.
@@SuperXpertise I agree skip trowel it’s just like a signature unique
Wow what an awesome video. Thank you. I am getting ready to try this for my first time and I believe I can do it after watching your video
Glad it was helpful, you got this 😃
Excellent, i think my problem is im not making the mud, like batter lol. My texture is a little to heavy but looks the same, excellent work thank you
Thank You!!! I have been looking for a video detailing how to recreate the exact texture of my walls.
Your welcome and happy that was helpful, thank you 🙏
Best instructional video I have seen , thank you !
Thanks, Glad 😀 it was helpful.
I do skip trowel for a living and I use a 18inch skip trowel knives. But for using a 6 not to shabby.
That’s awesome! I just to do work with with a 24” in production homes, the 6” it’s a great way to start learning skip trowel and move to a bigger knife ones you get the hang of it 😃

Great video, texture style is used extensively in the Phoenix area. Nice touch with the rubber chicken!
Thank you so much 😊 for taking the time to check out the video, just trying to make the video a little fun with the chicken 😆

best skip trowel video I've seen and NO sand... wow! curious why the 6" knife... why not 12... 14" - figuring just for the demo, you used 6"
Thanks you so much for taking the time to comment, I just the 6” on the video so show the easy way to start doing the texture and ones you get the hang of of it it will be easier to do texture with bigger drywall knife that includes 8”, 10”, 12” and 14”

Nice job. This is exactly the type of texture I was looking for. Thanks!
there seems to be some kind of bumpiness (textured paint?) on the wall already in your video. Does this technique also work with an unpainted drywall?
Hello yes it work with an unpainted wall 👍🏼, the reason I paid it the walk for the video purpose to see the pattern of the texture better 😃
Omg :amazing job
Thank you
Thank you 😊

Best video on skip trowel. Why didn't you add sand? I hear thats a thing.
Thank you so much 😊, there is some state that use skip trowel with sand but most of them it’s with out, the application process is the same
Great video! Does it work without the 🐔?
Nice! For painting, what nap size did you go with on that roller?
I usually use a 1/2” roller. Thanks for watching
Thanks for this video it’s give me the confidence to patch an area in my laundry room!! ❤
Awesome! you got this it’s just practice thanks for watching ❤️
Thank you!
Thank you Thank you
Great! Thanks
Thank you
I've seen a lot of videos using a 14 in. long trowel, is 6 in. better? Thanks
Bro how are you doing that though what is on your knife that is making it texture !????
You don’t need sand in the mixture? A bunch of videos I watched said to use 20/30 grit sand.
That’s skip trowel with sand but it’s pretty much the same step thanks for watching 😊
Firmeeee🤘🏽
Presente y saludos 🖖 😝 thanks for watching ❤️
I see that wall already has a texture, does your technique require that the wall be pretexturized before applying the texture from this demo?
It’s just the markings from the roller, i prime the wall before the texture so it will stand out and be visible on camera, thanks for watching.
Did u apply primer before texturing ?
No I just painted the wall so it will be visible on camera, thanks for watching
Awesome ..!
Thanks you very much sir.
Can you use *REDLINE Wall Texture* for this instead if all purpose joint compound? If so is the process the same?
Yes of course and it’s the same process
Thanks for the quick reply. Do they perform the same or do you find all purpose joint compound is easier to skip because it grabs better?
I can’t get this to work on my ceiling. the texture comes out much smaller than I need it. This texture is all over my home. I tried different thicknesses of mud, different pressures, different size knifes and Different speeds. Any other advice?
hello, try adding less mud to the drywall knife that can help you to get the hang of it
