There are some inner-ring suburbs of Houston that are decent, like Houston Heights or Southampton, but the outer suburbs like Katy or Cypress are pretty bad places to live. You'll spend most your weekend driving in circles running errands because it's all suburban sprawl malls out there. There's no community out there, no sense of place, nothing to do.

Houston is such an embarrassing city to live in. Power is constantly out, the city has been on many water-boil advisories, and my car has been broken into 8 times (once per year since I've moved to this h3ll hole) - the break ins happened in River Oaks, I can't imagine living in a bad part of town. Oh, and the air is full of crap. I always forgot the terrible quality of air until I travel somewhere with fresh air. The only redeeming qualities are the nice people and the unbelievable food scene. Overall, ***NOT*** a good place to live!

High taxes, rent, and high energy prices and very low pay..high rents and I say theyre awful people. I think thats the sorriest place to live in the USA.

Visited houston last weekend and had only just arrived and parked for 1 hour before my car window was smashed and robbed, police never came after three calls and 6 hours of waiting for a police report. No one cares there and no one was helpful. Truly a cesspool the city is cursed.

THE HOUSTON POWER GRID IS VERY UNRELIABLE.
I live near Bush airport and I lose electricity at least once a month ON PERFECTLY CLEAR SUNNY DAYS.
Afghanistan has a better electrical grid than Houston does.

There are elements of Houston that are positively third world in regards to crime rates, crumbling infrastructure and near non-existent utilities maintenance (water and sewage). Used to be a neat city and is now a deathtrap full of rent seekers and is unreasonably deteriorated everywhere

i thought the people moving/fleeing california were the conservatives not the liberals who love the liberal politics there. thus when they move to texas they make texas more red not more blue.

That is definitely a thing that is happening but it depends on where you look!

I just got a settlement and looking to move to Austin or Houston. I love sports but I love the diversity of Austin and its kickback lifestyle.
If you had the decision to spend 1.25M on a spacious apt, which city would you choose?

That is tough! I love both cities.
      Houston:
Your dollar will go a lot further
      More pro teams
      Better food
      Much larger (and diverse)
      More humid
      Austin:
      Better outdoor activities
      Much smaller

$1.25 million for an apartment in Houston, sums up everything wrong with this place

I'm totally fine for it being considered undesirable so people would stop moving here. My property tax has gone up significantly.

So Texas' decline in the desirability stakes has coincided with Joe Rogan building a mansion in Austin ? Way to go, Joe.

I never understood how people could blame an individual, vs an entire government state and way of life. But it's all joe rogans fault!

@@Podcastforthewin it was an attempt at humour - obviously he can't take credit for the decline in others opinions
