- Some people in the Philippines are reportedly defying a mandatory evacuation order, even as experts warn of a massive eruption as soon as today. Drone footage shows the Taal Volcano now looks less active, but the danger below the surface still points to a serious threat. Ramy Inocencio reports.

Remember the original caldera is the size of the entire lake not just the little hill..Small volcanos have a habit of blowing up big.
time to take a long vacation somewhere else
That is correct Terry. The volcanic walls of a huge ancient volcano collapsed millions of years ago to create that caldera system. The whole of Taal Lake used to be inside the supervolcano.
I can't resist...
That's what she said-
Not even my Filipino friends know that the main crater is in the center of the island.
The volcano back then was a mountain, but because of the eruptions it turned into a caldera but because it continues to erupt and made the island. And only the Crater on the main island can erupt.
Am I the only one frustrated when he removes his mask to speak??? Keep wearing it please! Those ashes are very hazardous when inhaled.

I have a feeling that there's going to be a VEI 6 or 7 eruption here very soon. This volcanic system known as Taal is huge. The entire lake is in a caldera. Stay safe in the Philippines and God bless
Gregory Diggs, I'd have to agree with you. The entire lake was once part of a huge volcano until the walls collapsed to form that caldera system. Yellowstone's Mystic Lake is kinda similar. In fact, Yellowstone sits atop a huge magma chamber.
I climbed that volcano back in '87 as a Geology student.
I guess VEI 8
@@osamabinladen824 there is a small possibility of that. Taal has an enormous magma chamber under it.
Pinatubo was VEI 6. I highly doubt Taal will be able to have VEI 6 or 7 since what is left of the magma chamber below it is really just small, perhaps smaller than Yellowstone's (in which its hotspot moves constantly, if I'm not mistaken). The Taal Lake exists because what was then a larger magma chamber already collapsed eons ago, hence it's already a caldera lake.

When ash gets to your lungs it mixes with the fluids that transforms it into liquid cement and people literally die from drowining from their own lungs turned into a mass of liquid cement filled lungs.

Are there any organizations contributing masks since there is a shortage?
There was, local organizations (some local organizations on my town donated masks) as well as NGO’s (there were many, i can’t recall) as well as some gov. deparments.
Local and foreign RUclipsrs are also doing the same. Distributing goods and face masks.
Some people here in the Philppines take advantage of the situation, lets say a dollar is 50 pesos, a mask is usually 5 pesos but in some Boutiques, it can cost up to 500 Pesos, just for a face mask, this is just a sham
Joshua Mata Yes, i heared about that
@@JoshuaBMata yep. I felt angry about that. Instead of helping they're taking advantage. But the government has plans to those who abused the situation.
I've always thought it was the smallest volcano in the world. I only learned recently that apparently it could be one of the largest right now.
IDK where that BS label came from--there are literally thousands of much smaller cones around the world, including the closest potentially active ones to my home, the Salton Buttes, each of which are only about a hundred feet high. Jeesh.
@@stevopusser9093 I think it's because we thought that Binintiang Malaki is THE volcano (as always shown in books and postcards) but it turns out it is only one out of multiple vents of the actual volcano. Can't say I blame them for that tho, because Binintiang Malaki has erupted multiple times in recorded history: First in 1707, then in 1715, 1749, and 1754.
I live 25 km away and it's true. Although the ashfall has died down the earthquakes haven't. During the first two days there are earthquakes literally every 30 minutes (ones that are enough to send me hiding under my bed) but since "artificially" died down. I said artificially because although I don't feel them as previous days, it's apparently going on with the same frequency if you look at the data from PHIVOLCS. There are evacuees in our neighborhood since our town miraculously avoided the heavy ashfall that places 10 minutes away didn't.
The donations have been overflowing though. Evacuees are making the most out of the bad situation by one-upping each other's FB/instagram photos wearing weird clothes from donation caches and having beauty/miss gay pageants. The government was lackluster as usual but its the citizens from less affected towns of Batangas were the one who really helped and gave the most during the first few moments of evacuation.
Kervin I pray you stay safe. I am in USA and was in hurricane Katrina. Be careful and we are praying for you.
Get a mask and wear it if you live downwind from that area until at least 1 major rain storm come and passed.
You dont live there stop lying
@@alexfrank5331 The ashfall in our town was super minimal, a stark contrast to a nearby town (Lemery) just 10-15 mins away so no one is really using masks here except the initial wave of evacuees who were staying in the local elementary school or people visiting other towns. The volcano is still on alert level 4 so a hazardous eruption is still imminent. Our classes in uni were even postponed (supposedly this morning was the start). Thanks for the concern though.

So you're telling me that the entire lake is the crater?!
Yes
yep
uh huh
It could be the worse scenario.
The most terrifying thing in here is we dont know if the lake itself is the real crater. Just like Pinatubo eruption before. The reason why Pinatubo looks unscary before was its because nobody expect the mountain itself is the real crater of a huge seem like mountain but actually a 10 million nuclear bomb energy ready to doom Luzon, Philippines and even affected the climate of the major rest of the world during 1991.
yeah
Am I the only one seeing a flaw with using "could be" in relation to the word "immenent"?
If I'm not mistaken, an explosion usually happens when gas gets trapped and can't escape. As long as Theres a vent, the island may be OK. My thoughts.
Sometimes smaller releases like what happened here allows groundwater to enter the magma chamber while hotter fresh magma from underneath refills the system kinda similar of what happened with Krakatoa in 1883. People should remain alert.
Small but terrible taal volcano. Thanks forsharing
Sciencetists have said the sulphur in the air is less now, but it's not conclusive, as the sulphur could increase again and they will continue to monitor it, as high sulphur is one indiction of a definite explosion going to happen, but in reality volcanoes are unpredictable, so visual activity is really the only way of knowing it's safe or not and it's still active and l feel sorry for all the people stuck in limbo at the moment. A volunteer from my wife's work said he will drive all our clothes donations and food and supplies donations from all the workers at her work to the evacuation centres soon, as it looks like the people of Batangas ect, are going to need some long term support. As this volcano may not settle down for months.
😪 god bless u all hopefully nothing bad like that will happen
Its gonna get worse from here on out.
Do you know that the entire lake was once part of a massive supervolcano? Scary now the river draining the lake has dried up, indicating the land outside the lake has lifted. Hope everyone be safe
Oof
The smallest supervolcano that has formed on the planet 500 000 years ago. The volcano’s caldera has a wonderful lake, which changes after every eruption. After the last, the lake has received a new 23 square kilometres island.

Philippines needs to be thankful to God that we have blessed environment and weather. And we are lucky to have it. So we need to always protect and take care of our environment before its too late.
So you are telling me that...
This nightmare is still not over?!! (Obviously is not)
ThirdPartyEJJ J Yes. It doesn't mean that if the volcano had its unexpected eruption and, that's it, like it's just like that then we can move on and do our own thing and that there is nothing more to worry about. A second eruption greater than the first one could possibly follow. There were frequent volcanic earthquakes after the eruption (more than 100 recorded). We don't know if it would be the same as the first or worse. We can't tell when or how. That's why there's no reason to be confident that it is already over.
G Reacts just to make sure, is it possible that it would occur in the following days. And do you think that it will 100% happen.
Yes
BlueFlakes I understand the situation too thank you very much. And I can show you or proof you that I know otherwise. I just wrote the comment to say that this nightmare is not over. Although I might alter my comment to reduce further misunderstandings.
