      That is so true. I've seen and heard from friends here in the Philippines that most small to large mining corporations are owned by ex-military personnel. Their backing and resources are very vast, especially with connections to politicians. Since most politicians would also have connections to militaries too.

    The late Gina Lopez formal appointment as DENR secretary was not approved by Commission on Appointments because the mining industry was against it. Even before former President Duterte appointed her as DENR secretary she was already very vocal against their activities targeting protected areas, and illegal mining's.

    I've been to Masungi reserve with my officemates and it was beautiful. Private army and greedy former army personnel is destroying this beautiful place. Politician doesn't care. DENR is passive and doesn't want to intervene coz some higher ups has personal interest.

      DENR is also corrupt as fuck, only in the Philippines will you get fined and sometimes even arrested for cutting down a coconut tree you planted without "cutting permit" while if you cut down a "protected" and endangered tree species, you can still sell them expensively by giving your local DENR official a small "gift"

    Thank you, BBC for the support. For showing what good investigative journalism can do to a muddled issue and give light to what's being worked out in the shadows. There are just many Filipinos betraying our own people in the name of money and power. But we hope to have more people standing up with Filipinas Ann & Billie Dumaliang and doing similar work. We owe it to the next generation and those who came before us.

    7:14 the two faced sister of the President who says she’s “independent” but that’s because she is still in cahoots with one of the opposition factions (that is the Dutertes which are the worst of the worst)
