Me, before watching Laura: Bulbs? They kind of seem like a hassle....
Me, after watching Laura: 500+ bulbs ordered before 5:30 am. Can’t wait!
(Pass that on to potential sponsors.)
😂😂😂 yay for fellow bulb addicts! You’re in good company. 😘
I'm from India and I'm very interesting in gardening,I want to order thus tulip bulbs but I don't know from where I will get..can you please help me mam
Laura planting bulbs in 2018: Never doing this again.
Laura in 2019: Ordering 3000 more bulbs to plant this fall 😂😂😂
Can't wait to see all those beautiful blooms😍
Georgiana Tinc but Laura is also right in saying that it‘s a one time kind of work and them you can enjoy the bulbs every year so it‘s worth it I think 🌷
I remembered that too she said, "Not doing this again." Or something like that.🤣🤣
But I wish I had the budget to order a fraction of what she has. They are breathtaking!!🤗
I think what she said was that she will not going to plant them by herself next year. She will hire people to plant them for her. That’s what I remember. I can be wrong though.
Lost count how many Laura was ordering., i was far too busy looking at all the beautiful Bulbs x
I’m a glutton for punishment! 😂 I think I kind of forget how much work it is from year to year...too much time lapses between to remember. I’m probably going to take the job a little slower this year and am not going to kill myself trying to get them all planted in one day. 😄
Those Snake’s Head bulbs look like a patio umbrella for a fairy garden!! 👀
I ordered 300 bulbs two days ago. Since watching your bulb video in 2018 and early 2019 I could not wait to pre order for this fall. Then you release this video today, has got me wanting to order more 😂.
And don’t forget how wondrous it must be for Benjamin to see all this beauty as he grows up. As well as your good husband Aaron who photographs everything so beautifully.
Laura you should be very proud of yourself. Those flowers are so beautiful. So wonderful to see. Thank you from those of us who are too ill to plant our own. We can enjoy yours. God Bless.
1000..white..gorgeous bulbs..hmmm 🤔 sounds like something white for the west side!!! 🤩🤗👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That's what I was thinking too. Those 1,000 Vidal tulips are probably going on the (boring!) white west side. 😝
I was thinking of the west side when she said she ordered those white bulbs!
Thank you for posting this video. I am in the process of creating a new garden in a house that we just purchased a year ago. My backyard was an empty slate, when we moved in, full of possibilities; but, I was overwhelmed by all of the empty space. We had seven established trees back there that are about fifty years old, and that was it, other than a half acre of grass. Now, twelve months later, mainly due to all of the information and motivation that I have gleaned from watching your videos after discovering your channel, our backyard has become an oasis that my family loves to spend time in. I have been trying to decide which bulbs to purchase for the spring garden. Your bulb video appeared at the perfect time. Thank you!
Tig McCoy-Redd I have done the same thing. Started from scratch last year! I would love to see photos of your garden!
I really didn't plant bulbs even though I wanted to because I had trouble digging the holes. I had a bulb planter hand tool, but it didn't work well for me. Then 2018, Laura shows the bulb auger for planting. I tried it and LOVED IT. I now plant bulbs with ease. THANK YOU LAURA 💕💕💕
Glad to hear it - I've just ordered one, along with 500 bulbs. The planting was indeed the most daunting part :)
I don’t think I would tackle so much bulbs planting without an auger! It truly is a huge time and back saver!
I just got into gardening/landscaping your videos have helped me so much! :)
That Tulip tour was, and is, the very favourit of mine. All the glory and colour after a grey winter! What more can one wait?🥰
Yes, the tour this Spring!! 🌷🌷🌷
I have been tempted to try bulbs here in SW FL. Stick them in the freezer and then plant them in our coolest season in FEB. Even if they only lasted a day it would be a treat! Also, I was at the IGC show in Chicago last week and you were on huge posters all over that place! Ha ha! Love it!
I forget that you can’t grow tulips down there! BUT you get to skip the harsh winters which would definitely be nice! I didn’t realize there would be posters up of me at IGC... 😂😂😂 every time I see a picture of myself used like that, it’s always a bit shocking. 😆
What zone are you in? We are in a zone 9b/10a so we generally have mild-ish winters in Greece, but I've had success with tulips, but my Paeonia did die rather quickly (could have been my fault though). I never thought some bulbs wouldn't grow in milder climates (which obviously makes total sense, but d'aah...)!! 😀
@@gidget8717 that's some great info, thank you!! 😁
We had one of our hardest winters this year, and I did notice that some of my plants (especially the most "usda hardy" ones) actually thrived in spring, unlike in the previous years!! Even my blackberry (which I just got rid of today, unfortunately) produced berries for the first (and last) time.
Have a great weekend!! 😊
I have had the Snowflake bulb for at least 20 years !!! Love them, they always put on a show!!
I think Laura is really going to like them because they bloom so early and are really pretty!
I agree. My snowflakes have been blooming without fail for about twenty years. They are beautiful, reliable, and long blooming. Can’t ask for more.
Here in New Zealand we call them Snowdrops.😄
Oh, I just think tulips with the sunlight glowing through them with their explosion of many colors is so incredibly beautiful...
You just may have inspired me to plant bulbs. Usually by the time fall rolls around, I don't even want to think about more garden work.
I could listen to you talk all day long, I love your passion for your flowers and garden x
I live in a Dutch community in Iowa where they plant hundreds of thousands of tulips every year. I know tulips and could have told you the types of each! The Dutch are proud of bulbs!
I used to go to the Pella Tulip Time Festival each spring when I lived in Iowa! Beautiful traditions.
I would love to see your community when the tulips are in bloom! I bet it’s gorgeous!
@@gardenanswer First Thursday, Friday and Saturday of May each year! 150,000 to 200,000 come each year (depending on weather!)
Garden answer, do you visit the wooden shoe tulip festival in Oregon? 30 acres of tulips every spring!
I went to our local Tulip festival Last year in Melbourne Australia and came home with a dozen plants and then ordered 500 more bulbs online as soon as I got home! I'll be upping the order for this year for sure! Thanks for the great inspo Laura!
You should plant a couple trout lillies in a pot for a spring fairy garden project. They’re so cute!
If you EVER have even the smallest opportunity to go to Istanbul, Turkey for their tulip festival in April, I cannot recommend going enough!! The Dutch actually got their tulips from the Ottomans, and the Turks now have a deep love for them and plant millions in their parks in the most fantastic beds and make pictures out of them and it's just so glorious
When you talk about planting bulbs you are so excited which is do nice to see it shows you love what you do .Its going to be beautiful Laura
I LOVE color blends, I have been ordering from them for years and they are a wonderful company who stands by their product. I wish I had the space to plant thousands like you do but I usually sneak in several hundred. I can't wait to see your bulb videos, your tulips are always so pretty. I got my catalog a couple weeks ago and I have been pouring over it dreaming... LOL. Thanks for sharing your plans and your talents!
Hi Laura and Aaron! You picked some beautiful flower bulbs! Thank you for showing pictures of the bulbs you planted last year as you talked about them. Thank you for sharing! I shared the video with my daughter.
Snowflake is our earliest flowet here in denmark and we use Them at easter as kids to put with a letter to familie members called "gækkebreve" to get chocolate 😊 great childhood memories
I love tulips!! I plant more and more of them every year. Can't wait to see how they all look in your garden.🌸🌷🌵
I hope the white tulips that are going in the special place find their home in your new west garden.
Your garden is breath taking!
The snowflake grow well in my area, and are blooming now because we're going into spring here now! They really are the sweetest little flowers 💚
Ohhhhhhh I LOVE the tulips planted in groups...just stunning and unique looking!!!
I’m with you on the alliums 💜😁 I’m so drawn to their unique striking presence and they lend such wonderful texture and color to play off and blend with other plants 🥰
The white tulips with the fringed edge are my favorite. They look so unique.
So so beautiful your garden you should be over the moon just watching your flowers blooming in different shapes and colours
The big apricot is my favorite. Can’t wait to see them next year.
The angel statue is BEYOND GORGEOUS!!!!!😍😍😍😍
She's so lucky. That was there when they moved in. The previous owners didn't want to risk moving it and damaging it (or maybe it was just a costly pain to move so they left it). Lucky, lucky couple.
I placed-my order yesterday for some of what I want to plant. I ordered 300 Clearwater and 100 Purple Blend. I have been watching your videos for about a month now and thank goodness I have watched all the bulb videos you posted from the past. Otherwise, I would have a full on Military march of single soldiers. So thank you, now I know I want to plant in bunches of 9+.
Love your channel!!!!!!!
I’m going to enjoy watching your tulips bloom. Mine are basically a deer buffet.
I just had someone tell me that if you plant daffodils among the tulips, they won’t get eaten because daffodil bulbs are poisonous. I don’t know if it’s true, but worth researching.
We have snowflakes that grow wild here in East Texas. Looks so sweet coming up out in the woods. 🥰🥰🥰
Same here in Croatia. They're beautiful. And snake's head, which also grows wild, is in Croatian Red Book of Flora, listed as an endangered species. I'm surprised to see them sold as bulbs.
I’ll be moving at the first of the year,so all of my spring bulbs will be enjoyed through you. But...boy am I getting some good ideas for next year!🌷🌷🌷
Just wanted to thank you for the tutorials on winter plants, as well as how to plant bulbs, I am planting my bulbs today and so excited. Thanks
Like always it's going to look beautiful you have the magic touch with plants. Thank you for sharing.
I have never planted bulbs before and I am so excited to place my first order. Thank you Laura!!
I was just thinking I wanted to order some bulbs! This video came out at the perfect time. Thank you!
OK. I just ordered 200 Clearwater (gorgeous pure white) tulips from Colorblends. Oh my goodness. I have not planted tulips in 30 years. So, Laura? You are very persuasive! Ohhh, I agonized over what to get for like two hours. Yup. But I did it. And I *think* they will bloom at the same time as my pale lavender foxgloves, so it should be very elegant. Thank you!
Very good prices, for anyone who hasn't looked at bulb prices before, very good especially for such high quality. They are wholesalers. Yes, I know they are high quality because Laura grows them! Ha, instant trust!
I love my desert roses, but there’s something so special about tulips 🌷 I’ve tried growing them, but our weather is way to hot ... I planted 25 in a huge pot but they didn’t even come up and I followed everything they said to do. 😫 I seriously can’t wait to see yours in bloom Laura. 🌷💜🌷
Looking forward to seeing you planting them and then sharing the blooms with us!!
I'm planning on planting much more bulbs this year and in a sunnier spot in our veranda and I was actually choosing some yesterday!!
Useless info of the day:
Sphaerocéfalon (sfe-ro-tsé-fa-lon) means sphere (σφαίρα) and head (κεφάλι) in Greek. Acrópolis comes from the words à-kree (άκρη) which means edge, the end of smt and pólis (πόλις, πόλη) which means city.
Have a great day!!!! 😊
My question is how do you plant anything else in the areas where you have SO many bulbs? Seems to me there isn’t any space to plant around them. LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos, I watch them daily!!! My husband & I are revamping our gardens & creating new ones with lots (for us) hydrangeas 💕 Thank you for your encouragement to ‘grow’ forward! Lol
I absolutely loved, loved, loved the pinotage blend. They were so beautiful.
I cannot imagine planting that many bulbs in the garden. You are amazing!
I've bin mixing white with near black tulips in my formal boxwood lined bed, the contrast between the tulips against the dark shiny green of the boxwood never fails to enchant me, seeing you talk bulbs makes it hard not to order another shipload.... and i'm in bulb-growing central (holland) I really have to watch myself here....
You might not like this but another bulb that has really gotten to me is the humble crocus, I grow them in my lawn, they end their cycle before the grass mowing season begins and the moment they pop up out of the lawn is like the start of the gardening season for me.
other favorites are grape hyacinths (Muscari botryoides) mixed with the short narcissus tete a tete, they line my garden paths and the yellow of the narcissus and the blue/purple of the grape hyacinths are perfect complimentary colors, they really pop when grown together.
Cant wait to see how your new bulbs are going to turn out!
My favourite bed is the one behind the chicken coop. Those tulips were stunning. I ordered some that are very similar in colour to put in my garden.
Barbara Lindberg I love those too. I think I will give those a shot next year.
Yeah, to me, that was the home run in terms of bulbs that they planted.
Oh man, this makes me so excited for Spring!
Snowflakes & Snakeshead fritillary prefer damp soil. They are grown naturally in wet meadows or by rivers in England ;) Also, they will come back & spread every year. I've decided to buy some perenial tulips called Oxford Tulips this year. Tulip bulbs are getting so expensive here in the uk ( especially the unusual or pretty ones ). I've spent an absolute fortune on them, of which I have to dig them all up every summer & store them, so that they don't rot during our wet summers. It's so much hard work lol. I am going to get myself one of those drill augers you use to make life easier :-) Thanks for showing us your bulbs for next year. Can't wait to see them all bloom.
YOUR EXCITEMENT IS SOOOO CONTAGIOUS! I cannot wait to see the boxwood with the alliums, the first time was so AWESOME! The snowflake is definitely one I must get! It's so stinking cute! LOL!!!! Good thing you have that hole digging attachment for your drill ....that's a lot of holes and get one for Aaron he such a good helper 😁....IT'S going to be a GLORIOUS sight! CANT WAIT TO SEE!!!
Ugh! Tulips (and other bulbs) are some of my favourite flowers but I live in a tropical climate. Even getting them as cut flowers here is only for a couple weeks a year because our climate doesn't let them last. So I will just love your garden and live vicariously through your videos haha.
Awesome! I’m doing bulbs for the first time this year. I want to add a color punch to my front yard as well as try overwintering in some backyard containers.
Beautiful bulbs! I tried planting a couple years ago and loved the colors in spring...this video has motivated me to plant more! Love your garden!
In zone 7a those Daffodils are considered a summer variety because they bloom so late in the season. I totally understand the funky smell!
I ordered my first ever order of tulips and daffodils to split with my mom a couple weeks back. Now you have me re thinking if it was enough! Can’t wait to see how this all shows up next year and get to planting!
I cannot wait to see this next spring, this spring your tulips were amazing!!!
Love tulips but all my sunny spots are filled with peonies. I did put some allium in last year and have another small batch coming. Can't imagine planting hundreds of bulbs.
On a different plant subject, I found a pink beautyberry shrub(i think that's what it is called) and put one in my island bed, it's small but lovely covered with berries. Thanks for talking about it on your blog, I love it and hope to find another one next year to put near my future patio.
I just love your channel. I am a porch/balcony gardener. I'd love to hear more on ideas for container planting that can withstand the heat and humidity of south Louisiana.
She's done videos on heat-loving plants.
Yes I know but, I was hoping for more ideas is all.
omggg amazing picks laura
Ok, I have the "Bulb Bug" now. My Dad was a huge tulip gardener. Brings back loved memories. And I may have to get some alliums for my daughter who is always wanted to grow those. If you have never been to the Holland tulip festival in Holland, Michigan, it was my father's heaven on Earth.
Holland Tulip festival is on my travel wish list! 😃
If I lived near you I would definitely come out and help you plant all those bulbs 😝 I still remember your video from last year watching you and Aaron plant all those, whew!!! That was a lot of work!!! I can’t believe you pretty much doubled your order from the previous year 😱. I will be looking forward to seeing you plant all those up, you guys should probably review your own video so you can remember how you guys got into a groove of planting ☺️. I will check out the website, I do love Alliums! The best trip we ever took was going to Keukenhof in Holland to see the tulips 💐🥰, that was A-mazing! A trip of a lifetime for us. 🤗 Take Care, Happy Planting 💜🌺🌸💐
Oh my gosh I was listening to you and thinking of my gosh that’s a lot of bulbs and wow that’s going to take a long time to plant, and then you said it would take a couple of days... it would take me for ever to plant that many. Lol thank you for all the pictures and info of them:) I’m excited to plant some two lips of daffodils in my yard:)
I wish I had the money to buy a bunch of bulbs. I bought some at the garden center and planted them a couple years ago. However some never came up and the few that did haven’t ever bloomed, they just have the green leaves.
Wow.......I can’t wait to see them all in bloom.....going to look so stunning 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Your garden is already glorious, but can't wait for the bulb show next spring. So excited 💖🌹
I literally was going through old episodes looking for bulb info . I'm getting ready to order too!
What a treat it is to put in a bulb order.
Was excited for this video. I just ordered white and apricot tulips for my nieces wedding but appreciated the resources to order bulk tulips for myself. Thanks
I´m also planning next bulb season. I´d love to see some ideas for bulbs in containers - maybe your faves from last season? Thanks for all the inspiration and positive vibes.
I am going to love, love, love seeing these selections in bloom! I'm living through you Laura! We have recently begun the slow process of DIY landscaping for the next probably ten years :'P hehehehehehe, and I'm using your plants as my test run!
Our snowflake's is under some really tall trees and it's pretty shaded most of the time the amazing thing is they are there all year they are green when not in bloom and then in bloom have the flowers come up and then go back to these nice pretty green bundle there my favorite.
Color Blends is an awesome site!! They explain what will work in my zone, 10a, and what won't. Sadly most of the bulbs either won't perform well or are considered annuals in my zone; so I will live vicariously through your beautiful garden! Happy planting!!
I CAN'T WAIT IT'S GOING TO BE SUPER AWESOME!!!! I have very rocky hard dirt!! I can hardly even call it soil!!
I do want to plant some more bulbs. Are moles a threat to bulbs? Thank you so much Laura for sharing your love of bulbs, they are so beautiful. God bless you and your family. Love you all.
Ohhh those ambassador are so lovely!!! Wish it can grow in my place 🇵🇭 I love your garden!!!
Oh I love the Apricot tulips and the Acropolis daffodils and the Avalon.
Can wait to see next year how gorgeous your garden going to be ....thanks for sharing i goig to try some too you had encouraged me 😁👏👏👌
I wish I could grow tulips where I live. I love your videos. A girl can dream can't she 🌷
Thank you Laura! I don’t usually do bulb planting in the fall, but this is Great inspiration!
I've been dreaming a lot lately of how I'll set out my gardens when I one day have space, this video has me thinking of cottagey bulb garden with staggered blooming bulbs and some pretty wild-flower-style annuals allowed to self seed in that area for half year long rambling colour, as well as small groupings of various bulbs peeking up between perennials by the kitchen window as heralds of spring
😍 they’re all lovely! Can’t wait for your garden. I wish i can do it to our garden as well. I want to have that whimsical effect too 😭
I love tulips!!!! I, also have been thinking about planting a few fall bulbs! I just need to decide where to plant! A neighboring town has a tulip festival in the Spring around Mother's Day & their tulips are gorgeous!!!! 😍💚🌿🌷🌷🌷🌷💚🌿
Beautiful! I have one acre. I have daffodils only. No luck w tulips.
For those in states that do not have a hard winter (southern states) for tulips/daffodils/etc. You can store the bulbs in a refrigerator (not your food frid though, maybe a college dorm frig) for the winter & then you can “force” the bulbs to bloom by planting them in containers in the winter/spring. And then once again store them in the frig after blooming. There are videos on this on the net & maybe Laura will do a video on this method.
Also, when I lived up north lots of business would have their landscapers pull the tulip bulbs out of the ground after they bloomed to plant the summer flowers. Typically they would throw away the tulip bulbs. But, if you ask for them they will gladly give you them for free. And you can just plant them in your garden right away (up north) or if you are in a warm state you can store them until winter pull them out & put them in the refrigerator.
Do not store the bulbs in the frig with food as some vegetables & fruit will some how damage the bulbs (can remember the details just that you need to have a dedicated frig for bulbs).
Thank you for this wonderful video!! Love tulips!! 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷 ps Just did a search on “forcing bulbs”...and Laura has a video titled "Mini Nursery Tour + Planting Forced Bulbs 🌿🌷💚 // Garden Answer”.
Thanks Laura! Tulips are my favorite. I usually just pick some up at a box store. I just requested the Color Blends catalog.
I just moved to Portland from a small beach town in Southern California. So I am trying to get used to this zone and what I can plant. However, I have a very small apartment patio. This helped me as I can plant tulips in containers. :-)
Finally, placed my order. Not nearly as ambitious as your order, but it's more than I've ever planted (350) so I'm pretty excited for the display next spring. (Not so much for the aches and pains from planting them this fall.)
I ordered: Diamond Touch, Gentle Giants, See View Plait, Cutlass and Daydream.
I wish that I had more land for bulbs, but I always plant some year after year, looks like you made some fabulous color choices.
Laura, you should try Van Engelen - they have everything you’ve ordered at wholesale pricing - better than Colorblends and seems like they don’t run out as fast.
May I ask a two stupid question? 1. Are bulbs a "one season only" deal? 2. Tulips and other like flowers bloom in the spring, but eventually their blooms diminish and die. What happens to that area where all the blooming tulips were? Are you planting something else, or do you simply maintain the leaves/stalks in the area? Hope that makes sense. Your videos are my much-needed zen-time. Thank you.
Laura, I have the same question too. Do the areas where bulbs planted will be empty in the summer? Or, how do you plant around them?
I’m wondering the same thing. How do you plant around them? I always end up digging them up when I’m planting something else in the same flower bed.
Bulbs are perennial in most areas so they grow back and bloom every year. After they are done blooming and the foliage has started to die back, you can cut the foliage off to within an inch of the ground so you can plant other plants around them. There is usually enough space between bulbs for plants to be planted in between.
You've inspired me to spend $300 on bulbs this weekend lol! So excited.
oh ya watched an older show, you had that bad winter. use heat coils along your gutters 2 or 3ft up & down your roof line alone the gutters leave it up year round just plug in when it snows bad enough again. black cord black clips no more shoveling the ROOF.
The bulbs are going to be beautiful snowflakes are my absolute favorite and I grow them in California by the beach
Great choices!!
So don’t last years bulbs come up again?
I love all your videos, wish I had the areas for all the flowers you plant. They are so beautiful 😍❤️
Beautiful! Can't wait to see the blooms! I don't know how you can plant that many. ....🌷💜
Great info just placed an order... Cant wait to see you plant them up, you are always an inspiration. 🙏💖
I am going ro plant so many tulips this year. Can't wait. Thanks for the video and all the ideas of the different choices
Thanks for the inspiration. I am looking forward to seeing the results. I hope to add more daffodils in my garden for next year. Thanks!
