- This video is part two of my Land Rover Defender camper conversion.
In this video I will take you through the remaining modifications and additions to my overland camper so far - it is a work in progress, so by no means finished - there will always be further additions!
This video covers the remaining storage, the rear door al-fresco cooking area, the bed, the flooring, the curtains, the electrical system, lighting, the front swivel seat and the heating system.
I am very happy with how it is working for me both as a work vehicle during the week and as a recreational vehicle for off-road adventures and camping at the weekend.
I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Hi folks - some of you were having trouble with the discount code for the heater - this is now sorted - all my fault!
The code is ‘Simon’
👍
I went on their website. They have a ton of heaters. Which model do you have? I don't see any at £95. I assume that's after the discount.
This is nice and perfect .. good job pal
Like it
@Rob S Mine is the one at the top - it’s actually £103 - my mistake. 👍
That solar panel link is now a dead end I think, just so you know..
You are such a skilled man. Such a great project. With love and respect from Minnesota, USA❤️
Simon, your creative ingenuity blows me away. And not just for the Land Rover but many other things that are featured in your videos. From making Ammo Can tent stoves, oil lamp inserts for candle lanterns, bucksaws, reflector ovens, wood gas stoves to sewing together baker tents and wool bush shirts. It's just outstanding! Combined with all of your camping/bushcraft trips and your great down-to-earth personality, your channel is by far my favorite on RUclips. Cheers!
Thank you Rich! 👍
We never would have known half the things done if you didn't tell us. The attention to detail and how methodical everything was done is astounding!!!
Thank you William 😁
Simon is the Michelangelo of bushcraft! ;)
Excellent video, thoroughly enjoyed your practical, no frills attachments and modifications, even down to the mismatching door colour 😁. Do wonder what the Mrs must think of all this! 🤣
Bloody marvellous Simon! Further proof that ‘Simon a bloke in the woods’ is the complete package 👌👍
Good work there Simon....Like the keep it simple, attitude.Well done.
That strip lighting is so awesome looking. This whole project is amazing. Youve built a rv camper.
Hi Simon, that’s some great carpentry there! Deciding what should go where takes some deep thought and determination! The satisfaction you must get from this build makes me smile! To do it all on a budget , it’s a win win! Thanks for all your effort in putting this together! 👍
Excellent Simon you are an inspiration to others in a world where it is becoming the norm to just buy pre-made anything these days. I admire and respect people like you who use their skills and traditional ways to create amazing things, thankyou for sharing with us
Gaz
You failed to mention how you picked the ultra stealth color palette of the various exterior panels! Amateurs may excitedly go for a single color and accidentally draw attention and reveal that it is in fact quite a swanky camper inside but YOU were clever enough to choose an inspired spectrum of particular natural hues to throw off even the most attuned observer! Don’t gloss over the small stuff! It’s your attention to those finer points that elevates this from craft to art. 😜👍🏻
love it Simon and more jealous than you know of your build and the promise of adventure it represents!
Suspect the door has been replaced
Haha, let’s call it farm-yard camo 😁
A great video Simon. My son is starting a build on his VW Crafter and the ideas in this video will be invaluable. I'm not a Land Rover fan myself but I do love what you have done with yours. After a lifetime of working on vehicles I have had enough of oily hands.
You've brought together the two things I most crave in life right now. A Defender and a Camper.
This has given me some serious inspiration! Thank you Simon!
I wonder, if a single RIB bed/chair would fit down that passenger side and still leave enough gap? Hmm...
Update - I bought a 110 Td5 about a month or so after leaving this comment.
And I've put a bed in the back, diesel heater, work lights, leisure battery, water tank, etc, etc. 😊 Best thing I ever wasted my money on 🤣
So many little clever details. That heater is pretty neat. If I ever get far enough in my Suburban overland build i'll definitely need one of those!
Very nice, now you can combine bushcraft and overlanding. can't weight to watch. Stay safe from Michigan city ,Indiana USA
I am watching this back. Great content Simon, thank you. So useful. Cheers. 🙂
Time and again, enjoy everything new in your inspiring channel.
U r truly a gifted handyman Simon!!!
It looks like a great diy
Build !!!! Impressive work, problem solving and application !!! Nice 👍🏽👍🏽😀 job on the swivel chair !!! ..... Another excellent example of problem solving and application. you really did luck out on how that Chinese heater just happened to fit where it did which made the plumbing to the outside a lot easier and then the fact that the fuel tank just happened to fit right there yeah that's a good thing every dog deserves his day !!!
By the way Simon I just wanted you to know that at the beginning of the video where you're driving along and the cameras at the very back of the vehicle showing the whole routine of driving shifting steering that was truly excellent and I really enjoyed that I thought that was a nice touch well done !!!!
Cheers to you amigo 👍🏽😀.
🔥The most clever Bushcrafter/Outdoorsman on RUclips! I love all the things you do. Bravo Simon! 💙
Simon.... nice job. Something to keep you off the streets at night, LOL. Thanks for sharing............... Ax
Really loving your build. A couple of things about the diesel heater, wrap the pump in foam and put under the vehicle in a box attached to the underside. Your blower air intake is supposed to be recirculating the already warmed air inside your vehicle, pulling in and heating -1° air from outside will use a load of diesel unnecessarily. All you are achieving is forcing out the warm air around your door rubbers and windows etc. Heat heated air and crack a window slightly for ventilation
Thanks Andy - good point about the cold air - I may turn it around and draw air from the drivers footwell 👍
@@simonablokeinthewoods on the plus side of your setup you will have fresh warm air and no condensation but it’s not ideal. If it was my build then I would fit a lever system to divert between fresh or recirculating air. Loving the content by the way 😄
Well though out build, but I've gotta say, the hammock is my favorite part. That's just brilliant!
Interesting conversion. Since 1996 I`ve owned 4 110s, doing my own simple additions for use as a camping vehicle. I like the idea of the diesel heater, though these days I use a Ducato self styled campervan, fitted with a wood burning stove and a 2 burner stove from a caravan for cooking. I have only recently subscribed to your channel, got on to you from Kent Survival. What you do is very informative. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
The grey door against everything else being blue , and needing to open the door to swivel the seat ! Absolutely love those quirks ! its just so land rover-ish 😀😀😀
Very nice job and very clear instruction about the diesel heater.
Just watched a guy in Alberta Canada (where I also live) talking about the Chinese diesel heather he was installing in his van build, and the instillation of the fuel pump and how noise it was. He did a similar thing regarding the fuel pump and had it zip tied rather than mounted.
Nice build on your lanny can’t afford one out here. Like the hammock idea everyone else goes for a fixed or Murphy style bed.
It's funny how satisfying it is watching this conversion. Thanks, Simon. 👍🙂
Hi Simon. Your video just popped up in my recommendations. And the same as a few people have commented. It gives me a bit of inspiration of what I should do with my 110 which is in need of some TLC. Cheers mate all the best. Alan👍
What a great job! Very creative! Thanx for sharing your build! Happy trails!
Fantastic projects. Just watched them again. 👍
One of theee best set ups I have seen!!!
Love love love it cracking build very impressed
Love the whole ethos behind the build. Basic, well made and comfortable. Love it.
Brilliant conversion Simon. Great that you used a Landy as well. Love the hammock idea so simple yet so effective.
Impressive. What a fantastic project, thanks for sharing Simon.
Well done Simon, I like it a lot. The hammock is a super idea which will solve some of my in vehicle sleeping problems. The heater is great for heating, mine does hot water too. Looking forward to the next episode (#3). Keep well and be safe.
Ordered a heater, with your code, many thanks Simon, great project, looking forward to the next update!
YEARS AGO...I HAD AN OLD FORD VAN THAT I FIXED UP FOR A CAMPING VAN. DID A LOT OF WHAT YOU HAVE DONE ONLY NOT AS FANCEY AS YOURS...BRINGS BACK MEMORIES....☮️❤️💥🇧🇯🇺🇸🖖
Both the hammock and the swivel seat are great ideas, I'm going to see if I can fit swivel seats to my Discovery! Cheers for the inspiration Simon,
Wow! Well thought out. I really like the aesthetics too. Great job!
Simon, good evening, just spent the day fitting a swivel base to my tdi300 camper conversion. Thanks for the inspiration.
You are such a tonic. I love the hammock. Thank you.
Terrific job! Well done, Simon.
Simon top transformation. Love the sit. 👍👌🏻
Thank you for sharing the build!
Hope you’re holding up well in lockdown. Looking forward to your next adventure!
That is amazing how you have made use of such a small space. Just Brilliant!!!
The hammock is genius - well played Sir! 👏
Great vid as usual mate. Split charge relays work perfectly with a leisure battery, that's how I have my D2 setup.
Neat unit mate! My experience with LandRovers has been all Series11s in the Army and a 1967 LWB Series11A LWB that I owned. When it was summer we thought about winter and in winter we tried to think about summer! HaHa!
Having permanent fresh water plumbing can be problematical. If not designed and used /flushed properly can result in all sorts of bugs, etc. I'd be looking at building in a Water Jerry can that can be removed quickly.
Brilliant ouutfot so fat though. I love the door handles and that revolving seat!
Another superbly entertaining video to watch . Your Landy is something to be really proud of , it's actually amazing to see what you have done to it . Incredible !!!
Simon, job well done mate. So inspirational! Really inspired by your videos.
I always enjoy your videos Simon, but I found your last two converting your Land Rover extremely fascinating, I think you have done a brilliant job, without spending a small fortune. Everything is so well thought out, you have done a great job mate, and I look forward to seeing you using it properly when we are able to get out and about again. Take care , and all the best to you.
Thanks Chris 👍
The heater system is awesome! Thanks for another great video Simon!
In the middle of a van build myself. So loved this video, I'm doing very similar things to yourself and love my power oak. Keep up the amazing videos Simon
Been waiting for Part 2. Something to look forward to watching this evening :)
Cool! Looks really comfortable, warm & dry.
I do like my Landy's to look a bit lived in so you've literally created that vibe.
Good work buddy.
Your Land Rover makeover masterpiece is quite remarkable! Look forward to an excursion soon!
Very practical approach to a van conversion . Well done. Inspiring.
Phenomenal job! Absolutely creative!
Excellent Land rover conversion camper build your land rover is awesome well done Simon thanks for sharing.
It’s still not finished yet! But I love what you have done to this vehicle. I don’t know what a full furnished vehicle like this would cost you in the UK but you saved a ton of money doing the DIY version. Can’t wait to see how it serves you out in the Wilds. Great Job Simon until next time 😊
Great job on the conversion. Looks real comfy!
Thanks for the upload! Great vid as always!
Simon love the conversation I do miss my old 130 crew cab...... keeps safe and keep the videos coming
Brilliant ideas! Now you have all mode’s of camping.
Excellent camping conversion really usable👍😉
Outstanding! Now I want a Land Rover! lol When lockdown's over, can't wait to see you take it out on a "car camping" trip. Thanks for the video!
Very nice.
Excellent set up on your 110, well thought out, simplicity always wins 🏆
Fantastic job! Thanks for sharing!
Wow you have done a brilliant job Simon cant wait to watch your trips out in it xxx
i really enjoyed this one! Simple and elegant, well executed where it needs to be and still very unique, i especially liked the swivel chair and the hammock idea! Really nice. best from Berlin
Great video, Simon. Thanks for sharing.
Wow.. looks absolutely amazing Simon..
I’m loving the truck. As soon as I can get outside I’m going to do a full walk around mine.
Love the content. Living in North America I’ve gotten used to and spoiled by our options for over landing rigs. Great to see an everyday usable rig with the best set up I’ve seen for a weekend away. Also love the gifts people give like the dual battery controller. Gotta love the best RUclips can be. Everybody take care.
you really are an excellent seamstress. and that hammock looks so good but I had to resist the urge to tip you out and plonk myself in place.
Hahaha - thanks Carolle!
What a fabulous job Simon, well done 👌👍💪
Well done Simon, so much better when you put it altogether yourself, you should be so proud.
