  • This 1966 Volvo P1800 is being built in the theme of the Mattias Vox P1800 renditions that have been floating around the internet for some time, and it is time for the car to actually be built.
    This build will be running all the top optioned Mad Volvo Performance front and rear suspension kits, along with all of the General Motor LS V8 conversion kits, so it will have modern capability to go with the more modern build style. The plan is to run the new Super Charged LS9 and have the car at a daily driver 700+ horsepower, along with all of the modern conveniences to make it an enjoyable daily driver car..
    There is an obscene amount of custom work with the build, and although we have the basic covered with the Swedish Ops conversion products, there is still a lot of one off body mods and fab work necessary to get the overall styling cues that are represented with the Vox Renditions.

    Normally i would not recommend destroying a piece of classic design and carbuilding. Anyway..you just showed that a beautifull classic car can be improved and converted into a piece of art. This is definatly the coolest P 1800 i have ever seen. Respect for your work and the many days and hours spend on this project. A truely amazing conversion..!

    I love it! Great work! I had a p1800 and did some of those mods in 1995. I want another one to build like yours. I own a car restoration shop but we never see p1800 volvos here.

    This is QUALITY work in every detail. The only criticism I can make is that although the layed-back headlamps are nice (very nice!) the aggressive "forward tilt" on the grill looks good only from straight on, but not as sleek as the original angle ..... from the profile view. From that view the two opposing tilts (of the layed-back headlamp AND the forward tilt of the grill) seem to contradict one another. Anyway, I would have been proud to just have swept the floors and delivered the newspaper during this project!

    Love it. I had 1964 back in 1971 and I always thought it would look better if the fins were less exaggerated. The P1800 I always felt shared many qualities of Ferrari lines of the same period.

    Work of art man, you are a true artist, The best looking p1800 out there. I would love to do this sort of thing but it might be beyond me. I have restored a car before but this looks very involved. Ever considered doing this sort of thing to a p1800 estate? It was an estate I looked at. Epic work sir! ~Peace. (Y)

    Hi
    Correction. The design is by me Bo Zolland and its my renderings shown in the start, and it would be nice if you mention that.

    Imho the perfect engine for this car would be a suped up Alfa Romeo Montreal v8. Looks fantastic and runs really good in "light" cars. It would also be more in style with the p1800's italian looks. Dont know if the alfa enigine is too wide though.

    At last I can leave a comment. Is your name Michaelangelo? As if that's what you are producing in terms of Art you deserve to be praised. There are very very few people out there who have the skill and will to complete such projects. Just for you? Or commissioned by others? T.

    The lights are wrong. The VOX uses a smaller light recessed into the fender and then the fender itself laid back. I would think that any 7 inch sealed beam or projector light would work. Mount the bucket into the recess and then it's just a matter of building the chrome insert which should be very easy, just a 5" tube cut to the appropriate angle with the front edge hammer formed.
    Great car though. Just bought a P1800 to do the exact same thing to. :)

      qayak I appreciate the feedback, and in working with the Zollander rendition I have found that there were certain liberties taken with proportion and removed/scrubbed P1800 contours, so I think you will be surprised how hard it is to hit about 80 percent of the rendition likeness with a real car. The fenders are laid back quite a bit, and those are 7in custom lights with smaller projector housings made into the 7in headlamp body, which are recessed back behind glass fender covers for the deep headlamp look.

      +qayak Just an fyi. recessing headlights is called Frenching.

    • @qayak
      @qayak 8 лет назад

      +Grand Crusader Just an FYI: some people call it Frenching, others don't.
      As for proportions, none of them are difficult. At least as a 35 year licenced auto body professional. It is simply a matter of identifying where the changes are required. For instance, there must be a portion added to the entire car between the cowl and fender wheel opening. That will require a full body section which would be made infinitely easier by swapping the front suspension for a Mustang II setup and replacing the strut towers and aprons with a custom panel. This will clean up the engine compartment and allow for a V6 or V8 swap.
      I would consider a Yamaha V6 out of a Ford Taurus SHO mated to a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission. The intake runners would look spectacular in that car.
      You can buy 7" projector headlights with LED rings. That's what I would use and I wouldn't put them behind glass. I don't think the concept P1800 used glass covers, just a stainless trim ring up to the headlight itself.
      However, each builder does things their own way so your mileage may vary.

    My parenst both had p1800's and I've had an 1800es, so I like these cars to start with. I really wanted to like this car, but the exterior mods killed it for me, especially the front end.

    • @Iamtheonlyreal1
      @Iamtheonlyreal1  10 лет назад +1

      I guess what it takes, but all the design work and product work is done in house, so there is a large savings from that..

      I'm interested to see how it turns out, I have slowly this past year started to restore my 68 1800 s, kind of looking for ideas to make it unique.

    Congrats, you've ruined a 60's classic icon. You should have build the rendition in fiberglass instead of chopping such an iconic car, breaks my hart.
