- Have you ever had a project that’s stuck, stalled, or over your head? Sometimes it just takes an extra set of eyes and an extra set of hands. Enter “The Wrenchmen”-Matt and Davin-who travel the country getting classic cars back on the road.
In Episode 6, presented by Shell and Pennzoil, the guys head to Austin, Texas, to tackle the wiring and brake problems on Larry’s 1964 Volvo 1800S. It ends up needing a lot more. The Wrenchmen also get the engine running for the first time since it was rebuilt three years ago and install gauges, headlights, signal lights, the steering wheel, seats, doors, and a hood. On the third day, they hand Larry the keys, and he fulfills a dream he’s had since he first saw an 1800S on the 1960s TV show The Saint.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for calling this model year car by its correct name -- the 1800S -- and not calling it a P1800 like 99% of the internet. Only the early Jensens were called the P1800. After 1963 they were either the 1800S, 1800E, or 1800ES.
And in fact, I believe that the chrome wind scoop just ahead of the windshield is from an earlier Jensen model.
As a Swede, it is fantastic to see a Volvo P1800 restored - it sure is a great looking car! (OK, I might be a bit bias...)
They really are so gorgeous, I love them. My favourite part of the engine bay is the set of twin SU carbs. I have a 1970 mgb GT so I might be a little bias too
I got only one thing to say: This car is awesome ! Right color, magnificent wire wheels, period correct fog lamps... the works. Larry, I'm dead jealous. You did a, patient, long haul but top notch job ! Proud Man ! Kudos!
The Wrenchmen series is the best yet, especially the focus on electrical work, which is the most intimidating part for many. And so nice to see them working on such a wide variety of cars.
I could watch these things all day long. Great.
Another great job! Super sexy lines on those old Volvos.. Thank you for this series, every episode is a pleasure to watch.
This remains a great concept for a series
Many have started and stalled on car projects
Finn Green i couldnt agree more. That twilight zone when youre so close to finishing your project is daunting and can make or break you.
Bravo guys u works hard with love for passion Volvo P1800 just respect big thanks for sharing beautiful legend like Amazon.
Sweet Volvo i love it. Awesome job
i worked with a land surveyor one summer in high school, he had a 1966 Volvo 1800 that we used as our surveyor vehicle. That was a fun summer.
what a gorgeous car, i dont think iv ever seen wire wheels look that good on a car.
Great video guys! Keep them coming, it's a great series
So true fresh set of eyes to look at a job can get you back in the game it's happened to me and i was so close. Nice one hagerty.
I love this channel I wish I would have come to Hagerty sooner as I have been tinkering with cars since I was 16 now 59 cars later I own a 66 Chevelle barn find that I have built and it is the keeper, when I'm done with it it goes to my Son. Keep wrenching Hagerty.
Love the 1800s!
Love this show. Wish the episodes were a full hour.
Another great episode. Always a pleasure to watch when a new episode is available.
I love these old Volvos, there are some of them hanging around where I live, also spotted an abandoned one in a NH lot
This is a vehicle Ive always wanted for myself. looks awesome.
Great story and good teamwork!!
This series is sweet!
I had a '68 P1800S in high school and the poor thing was originally from Michigan and just rusted away from the inside out. I can't imagine restoring one of these cars. Mine was a blast to drive and literally drove the damn thing to hell and back, it had to have had well over 200,000 miles on it by the time I was done with it and it was sold to a guy that wanted to restore it.
Your car is magnificent. I had a black '64 1800S that had rust holes through the floors. I've only ever seen one other black one.
I'm jealous. And the chrome spears on the sides are awesome.
It’s hard to imagine that Volvo used to design cars so beautiful when I’ve been driving my 240 brick for so long (so ugly it’s cool looking).
great series and another beautiful car
Beautiful car! Keep it rolling and good luck on your east to west coast tour!!
How about more of these? Great series and really fun to watch.
What an amazing series. Giving hope to folks like him? Priceless. I thought just getting the engine running was end game too. GREAT ending. When is next episode?
You guys are awesome. Thanks for this video.
This is a great show. Love the vids. Underrated. Keep em coming please!
I wish i could find some one to help me with my 1933 Plymouth four door sedan, I am 56 in a wheelchair and I am so close to have my hot rod done. Been working on it over 20 years from a wheelchair and still have not driven it. had it almost done, got sick with my heart then it sat for 2 years, i got it running again then the new power steering pump went out from sitting and now i am having trouble getting the old pump off, and some other minor things. Anyway my car is on you tube, under Danny 33 plymouth 4 door sedan.
the goal today is to be able to leave tmrw. lol. love it. Man what a terrific show. Such a joy to watch. Keep up the good fight. lol! Have a great day.
what a fantastic show real gentlemen
peter wilson
Finally a man that knows how to pour oil correctly! 10:25!
Cool show, need more episodes
Texas Hill Country. I’ll probably see this car at a local show eventually.
This is a great show, I just saw the 6 episodes, when is the next one coming!!! . That Volvo looks awesome.
I have a question and a comment. First the question, I saw you using a cell phone app that allowed you to remote the gauges and see them while working under the hood, what is that app/hardware and where can someone get that? Next my comment, I have noticed that every one of the cars you work on needs major brake work, have you ever considered doing an episode where you go step by step showing how to install, bleed, and adjust a brake system? Love the show by the way!
Awesome camera work @ 17:33. Love the look of this car
What a nice car and great video.
We'll done guys, awesome.
12:20 I'm pretty sure that's what I look like while driving lol
beautiful car, nice work!
So nice.
Took ownership of a 1966 1800S. It was abandoned on an estate property and mother nature was starting to get the upper hand.
I have it now sitting off the ground on a car trailer built for it.
I have at this point removed all of the ground debris, rodents, and vacuumed it out. I then started to remove all of the interior from it. That's where it sits now under cover through this past winter.
I was able to contact Volvo over in Sweden an da was able to get some more info on the vehicle. Still looking for more on it.
Would always love some advice on this project.
Thanks. Bob
Good work.
Very cool
Amazing video
Sweet Pyhimys Volvo😍
I have a 1972 Volvo P1800E and I'm restoring it just enough to sell it. Not sure if you're interested in purchasing it - but it's in great condition.
Larry, have you retired & gone coast-to-coast yet? If not, may I suggest the northern route US 2 ? I did it yrs ago on my BMW K75RTA. Everette Wa to Bangor Maine. My 'best' c-t-c was driving a P1900 (NOT a typo) from N.Hollywood to Portland, Me. WHAT A SUMMER that was...
You have me courage to continue my present project. Fiat X 1/9, almost done. I have a 1969 1800S in the shed, she´s next. Yes, "she". My swedish blonde :)
Awesome!
WOW great car I always like this one. So would the Saint; can you hear the Saint song :)
Dav always does a great job volvo, dont forget the hat
Nice, nicer w an exhaust system I'm sure
great job!
Very nice.
Best Volvo.
yousahdood I dunno', I love my S40.... LuLz
The engine looks a lot like a ''B series'' Austin/Morris as used in the MGB,s etc.
You know that wiring harness is supposed to go front to back, not back to front.. Right?
Someone had to say it
I've heard it both ways.
to be honest, does it matter? so long as it gets done and works.
It doesn't matter at the end of the day. I was just struggling with it going from back to front and figured I was doing it wrong. :)
And, in the interest of full disclosure: I am friends with both of these guys. Just friendly ribbing, sorry if that was lost in translation Matt. :)
Awesome volvo, Not a big fan of the wheel choice but great job guys
One of the most sexy looking cars ever...sexceptional lines!!!👏👏👏❤🚘.
I have had 68 1800 since 1984. Just wondering what became a the heater fan housing.
Need some help on my 760 TD 87'...
You guys know Normandy ??
Btw , congrats for the filming .So relaxing , so enjoyable , compared to the usual way of filming the others series , with Parkinsonians cameras , poor jokes and guys mocking each others .Nice.
Hi,
Are the front suspension parts especially the rack, original or aftermarket? If so where can I find new p1800 aftermarket parts.
Thank!
always liked that body style, hmm.think a Mopar 340 with a 4 speed will fit? lol! that'll give her some get up n go! ▪☆☆☆¤
Fantastic job - like Edd 'the immortal' China here in the UK. Meantime - I have a lovely low mileage defender Land Rover 200Tdi I want to commission back into my daily business. I'm doing the sprucing up bits - I've done a fair bit of low level stuff myself but the bulkhead is going and that's a HORRIBLE job.
Greetings from Sweden, nice rebuild, but why the steering wheel.
The original is so cool.
Well i suppose its a matter of taste.
thumbsUP!
I've had 2 P1800's. 20 years ago, It was common knowledge in the Volvo community that Penzoil is/was the worst oil for these cars. The solvent content was too high so it broke down the gaskets. Use castrol.
Where does the line start? And what the cost? I have a 73 Bavarian that I need to get on.
P1800, the only Volvo I would ever buy.
Anthony Perrella NO NO I am in sweden and have an 1967 Volvo Amazon sport and Volvo pv-62 so they are good
had a 240 and now owns a 760 TD , full option , straight 6 .These are daylies , unbreakable , the water pump of the 760 is broken ,leaks like the Niagara falls , but hey ! Just fill her with water every 2 days and it works !
Brilliant cars from brilliant guys.
122s was a tank...pretty much unbreakable if proper maintenance was done
Can I ask where you got the wire wheels for your Volvo 1800?
Those tires look a little chunky for the car, are the wheels OEM?
I have a 65 with a chevy 327 in it.
Does anyone know about the front suspension and steering? The original never had adjustable coilovers or rack and pinion.
That is the app you were using that showed the RPM?
If you guys ,would have an emission on History like Counts Kustoms will be grate
Hagerty, are there no more episodes?
When is the next wrenchman video coming out?
Man...
I hope the wrench man series isn't all done.
hey guys when will you upload a episode 7
It's beautifully done , and I know he loves his car just as it is , but I'm thinking that those wheels don't match the rest of the vehicle .
Where did he get the rack and pinion steering?
Where did the hood scoop come from?
Where did your Wrenchmen series go?
Hard to find any parts for old Volvo????.
What is the part number of the dual master cylinder you used????
Aidan Sullivan looks like they used the same one as on my 91 240 Volvo
1" less poke on the front wheels and that car would have been awsome!
What is that timing app you all used?
This is the app for the 123Ignition Tune+ distributor with bluetooth. You can set your own ignition and vacuum curve, which can be more precise than a pre set curve or a worn out distributor. I have a Tune+ distributor in my car and it is quite nice and can handle more powerful coils than normal points ignition systems. The app enables some features like rpm gauge, coil charge amperage, voltage and anti theft ignition cut off.
Nobody ever says "idiot" in the YT comments.
it's usually much worse.
Is that distributor from 123Ignition with tuneable bluetooth?
Yes, the distributor had bluetooth.
Please come to malaysia .we have one .please save it
You hung the fuel pump upside-down.
hey, why hide it, we know that is Shiner Bock at 13m28s
Great job guys,do you want to come to the motherland of Volvo and give me hand on my Volvo 3312 Valp (laplander) ;-)
shudve wrapped the wire with painter's tape and then pull it from back to front, would make ur life a whole load easier
forgot to put a muffler on?
I think someting going wrong here, tha car its not complite without exshaustssystem, im shaking of my head...
