Spawn is an interesting case study, where the earlier issues were massively overprinted, but then you have this prolonged period period of relative scarcity. Not many series with similar stories.

Issue 100 was the issue he killed malbolgia and Angela was killed off reason because niel gaiman had took full ownership of the character he created for the spawn verse or image verse same reason why we didnt see her in the rest of the animated series season 2 and 3 on hbo

Issue 77 is another book featuring the “Wings of Redemption” Spawn, which sells raw for over $50. Issue 185 is another must have, among others. Great list man!
For sure! I love that cover. Spawn is really interesting with most of the more valuable issues coming mid-run. Obviously, a lot of that has to do with the low print-runs, but it was weird to have to leave off so many later run issues because they significantly overshadow the early issues value wise.
Not a Spawn fan ( though I bought and own the first 10 issues as a 90’s kid), but you made me want to own these issues.
It’s just one of those things you have to do as a 90s kid, right? I think I stopped at 70 or 75 with my collection. I believe 67 was the last issue I bought back in the day, but that’s just a weird number to cut it off at. Maybe I should go up to 100… 🤷🏻♂️
@@CoMoComicBooks Yes. I might look for those variants. Especially the Frank Miller one (currently attempting to collect his Daredevil run).
Excellent list my man. Mine would go along similar lines, but I love the added challenge of finding a reasonably high grade newsstand copy when available.
Nothing wrong with chasing down some nice newsstands when the opportunity presents itself! Good luck as you track them.
For me the challenge is to get Newsstand copies of these NM.🏆
Same here. I was able to find a Curse of Spawn #12 newsstand and I also have #119 newsstand. They are off getting a press and then they will be graded.

The Spawn variants for many of the Image comics this month are fun too. Batman 130 has a variant paying homage to the original Batman/Spawn crossover cover too.
I did see the McFarlane Barnes and Noble variant for the new crossover. It looked pretty good!
Love Spawn! It’s funny because we always say there’s a Spawn run in every collection we pick up. So many were printed back in the day.
That there is! If only the were a few more runs that go through 200 or 250, that would be AMAZING!

New sub here! Spawn is one of my favorite! When I was a kid, I had every book from issue 1 all way to about year 2000, the. I had a house fire and lost everything! Family, the most important thing we're all ok, thankfully!! My books and cards were toast. I recently started getting books back and I got a decent amount of Spawn books, including #1 for a buck a piece!

I still remember when I bought Spawn #1 comic book when it first came out, and to this day I still have it.
I bought mine second hand. I was just a shade young when it hit the stands.

Oh boy!!! I will make it a game. 10. Got it. Next nine. ??? Spawn 9??? Or 4?? Got till 25. Then in spans. This is my fav character of all time!!! Got mor Todd than anything else.
I had all but one or two issues from 1-64 from when I was a kid and wound up filling it in up to 70, just to pick a nice round stopping point. I may go back and go up to 100 at some point though!
I have Spawn #2 printed without black ink. Todd was in awe when he saw it back in the day.
That would be something to see! Unusual printing errors like that always make for interesting reads!
There was a similar error for issue #1 as well as Malibu Sun #13. Whoever Image/Malibu was using as a printer seemed to run out of black ink a lot.
@@RockandrollNegro I was present at a comic shop in Modesto when they opened their supply of Spawn #2. About 40-80 books had terrible blisters splotchy ink. Never seen anything like it. Another 20 or so were almost entirely missing the black ink on the printing of the cover.
There was an Image rep who discovered that the guy running the comic shop was selling them at ComicCon that year. He tracked them down offering $100 a piece on that day.
When Todd saw it, we got to listen to Jim Less lecture the entire squad of artists about the printing process and how rare the clean prints are.
I have also seen a #1 spawn just like it.
Very true about the accessibility of the Spawn number one book. I just sent mine to CGC for the MacFarlane signing and unfortunately it only came back at 96 but he and I have a McFarlane auto.
Nothing wrong with a 9.6. I suspect it was a PC book for you, so it’s all good!

Thanks for watching! Gunslinger is 💰💰💰. Definitely not an easy task to just pick ten, but I like to keep most of the picks for this series at or below $20, but will generally allow a book or two up to $50 at the most.

I am trying to complete Spawn, I'm not even half way done, but I've got most of the first 50 locked up and I have most of Spawn since Al Simmons came back in 250. I got into the hobby in 2013 and Spawn was one of the characters I immediately got on board with. It saddens me to think I missed an opportunity to buy Spawn 174 for cover price or the "new book hype" price of $10-$15 by just a few years.
Hindsight is rough like that. Definitely a lot of books I have had in my hand on a Wednesday or otherwise passed over on release that I regret. Good luck with completing your Spawn collection!

Damn you reading 1 to 100 crazzy I regret not having my collection I could had continued it till this day but unfortunately during 2009 2010 I broke up with my girl at the time and she kept my collection but thankfully she got into spawn because of me and was continuing to collect the comic I had started years ago all the books were mint I was a very hardcore collector of spawn comics shit was crazzy its gonna be very hard to collect every issue from 1 to 300 and so on

Spawn 119 is a good one to mention as well.
It’s definitely a good issue, just a bit pricy for this list. I usually try to keep most of the books at or below $20, with a little bit of leniency for a $50 book or so.

I wanna start collecting spawn comics but I don’t know where to start
There are some good options here, but with Spawn it’s probably best to start with 1-100 and work you way up from there. It definitely gets tough where the print runs really dropped off.
what about those spawn homage covers #220-231?
I mentioned them in a previous comment! Definitely fun books, but the values are such that I opted to leave them out. I like keeping the price cutoff pretty low for this series. It’s crazy how much some of them go for!
A "key" for fans of GUNSLINGER SPAWN might say his first 2 parter in SPAWN as opposed to an earlier "cameo"!
For sure. The full vs cameo debate is always a fun one. Either are worthy of mentioning.
I just got my comics from my parents,,,iv got Spawn 1-16 anybody give my a ballpark vaule of these please,,,thier all sleeved and in great shape
Spawn 1 is always a great book to find in a collection, but unfortunately there are so many of them that it doesn’t have a ton of value. The early issues are far and away the most common, so chances are what you found has more sentimental value than monetary value. I was guess maybe $75 on the high end. All comes down to the grade. Anything below NM grades and you’re going to lose value in a hurry.

That’s definitely a fun cover. It’s a very rare example of McFarlane not putting his signature plate on a cover, which allegedly has caused it to be a book he is asked to sign quite a bit!

Gunslinger’s first is a great book, but a bit out of the price range I like to keep this series at. I believe I have included it in one of my other Too 10 Comics videos earlier this year though!

Thanks Parker! Collector's Series isn't focused on any kind of value or potential value, just collecting. If you were wanting to maximize value or were more interested in investment type moves, I would agree.

I’m suprised companies don’t have to pay royalties for using homage covers? I feel like now if u run out of ideas u can make a homage cover and it will sell… there’s like 50 of them that u can use. Also the new Spawns books aren’t that good, besides Gunslinger. I don’t think Todd McFarlane cares about the industry anymore and is just looking to cash out!
I agree on homages thou each book if diff. I think he’s one writing the gunslinger book. If he was after cash how come he’s dosn’t raise price of every book to 3.99 like the rest of the industry?
@@DanielGoldMcduckRose he has like 4-5 Spawn books out already, they sell just on price. Imagine buying 4 of them for $4-$5? Plus the special issues he still charges $5-$6… plus DC just threw a bunch of money at him for that one shot and all those mediocre toys he did for them.
Remember that run in Spawn that was months and month and months of nothing but homage covers?
The thing with comics a writer can only come up with so much content, before being redundant to the audience.
@@siner2442 he charges 5 6 on specials what does rest the industry charge idk anymore last book I picked up was a Thor 24 that was 899 cover price . I’m done with singles. As much as I love this hobby It’s overdone looks like 90s all over again. I’ll stick to trades or oversized books.
