I'm currently only 3 issue shy of having a complete run of Daredevil's first series, including all annuals. It's taken me over 20 years to amass 378 of the 381 issues (plus 10 annuals), and now, issue #1 is one of the 3 that I need and is pretty much out of reach... I'm gonna have to settle for the True Believers edition! 😁 The only other issues I need are #3 and #6, and they're still affordable. However, including the other-book appearances, this is the first top 10 list of yours where I own every single issue mentioned. Nice work, Drew.

You can do it!!! Being so close is when it sucks the most, or at least that was my experience with my ASM run. When you’re first starting out you can find books to buy at practically every stop. When you get down to those last few holes it can be some time before you and them are in the same room. I also need a DD1. Put it off for way too long because of how affordable and readily available it used to be. Oops.

I remember when that FM run started. Being a young boy and reading it, it was so serious and so adult themed, like reading a movie. Just edgy as hell……👍

Miller was exactly what Daredevil needed. That character had been hanging on by a thread for 20 years and Miller final made him relevant.

Great list. I’ve always liked daredevil 53 as a nice silver age origin retold “next best thing” for those of us that can’t afford #1. I’m surprised it isn’t more popular.

Funny, I vaguely remember buying DAREDEVIL #227 in a drugstore during the Fall of 1985! The reason why it stands out is because the first issue of The Dark Knight Returns appeared almost simultaneously with the 3rd issue of Born Again! Before Miller, I don't remember any creator getting new material published by two rival companies around the same time, so to me, it was a big deal!

Nice lay down Drew...your reference to numbering restarts strikes a sour note with me. In 2015 when both DC and Marvel did yet another restart simultaneously and that finally gave me the offramp for a long-time completist collector. I guess I understand the economics but they didn't understand the impact on many of us.

Hi Drew -- Yet another engaging piece! Kudos!
A couple of notes about your #2 selection -- Daredevil issue 7, from way back in 1965.
The story contained therein, "In Mortal Combat With... Sub-Mariner!" was supposedly one of Stan Lee's favorites, and it is pretty much without question the highlight of Wally Wood's brief go-round with Marvel in 1964-65.
The opening splash page of DD 7, with Namor sitting on the throne of Atlantis, features some Zipatone in the background -- it's one of the few instances of Zipatone being used in a Marvel comic prior to Jim Steranko's and Neal Adams' work in the late '60s.
If an actual DD 7 is out of your price range, here are some reprint options...
    * The first reprint of this story appears in the 25-cent giant Marvel Super-Heroes issue 27, cover-dated July 1970. It's notable also because Jack Kirby rendered new cover art for this issue, and thus it features Kirby's last cover depiction of DD, so far as I know. (Not his last cover depiction of Subby, though -- see back cover of Marvel Treasury issue 11 from 1976.)
    * My favorite reprint option is the 1974 Marvel Treasury Special titled Giant Superhero Holiday Grab-Bag, for the obvious reason -- the pages are 11 by 17 inches, and Wally Wood's art looks fantastic at that larger size.
    * A surprisingly affordable tpb and hardcover book option is Marvel Visionaries: Stan Lee, which includes not only "In Mortal Combat With... Sub-Mariner!" but also another noteworthy DD tale about a Viet Nam vet who has lost his eyesight, plus a 1953 story from the final issue of Suspense (issue 29) wherein Stan lampoons anti-comic crusader Dr. Frederic Wertham, a full year before the notorious Senate sub-committee hearings on juvenile delinquency that "put comic books on trial" in spring '54.

It is beautiful to see daredevil finally getting his due. One of the most undervalued books Marvel has. I tried to get daredevil number one volume one but it’s just priced way out of my league at this time.
