  • A raw, unscripted brief tour and tips for photographing the fall colors of the changing aspen leaves in the Eastern Sierra, California
    (This was basically a self-assignment method for teaching myself about Adobe Premier and basic editing skills. I hope you enjoy this video/ Please do let me know if you like it, and if you're interested in seeing me do more of these.)
    Update #1: People have commented about wishing I had included a map. I wish I could have, but to do so would have required securing the permission of the map maker in order to include it in the video. Unfortunately I simply didn't have time for that part of the process.
    Update #2: The name of the creek in Lundy Canyon is Mill Creek. The name "Lundy Creek Canyon" is my mistake.

      Thanks for the report, we're heading up on the 17th which I hope it won't be to late. Maybe the warm weather will slow down the change.
      We went to Lundy lake last year at the end of Oct...trees were bare, but still ended up with some cool shots of them naked trees :)

      Based on this weekends experience: I find it pretty hard to get a good shot of leaves with backlight. The contrast is just way too high. The more successful strategy was to shoot in shadow, which was also mentioned on the video.

    Just came across your video. Loved the detailed tour of the places. I visit the Bishop area several times a year. However, you have introduced me to see new places that I am now eager to photograph.

      Thank you for your kind words, ANH THƯ luisaugusto da silva Anna Rimovska & Richard Creamer and Richard, yes, this was shot exactly a year ago (2013). I don't know for sure about North Lake this year as of right now, but I do know they got snowed on last week, so I'm guessing they may be close to being past prime. I wouldn't wait too much longer this year for North Lake or other higher locations.

    I was just up there this past weekend (10/6-8/2016). I took the Dundenberg road, but did the offshoot to the mill (BIG mistake, even with an Outback!). But Lundy Canyon was wonderful.

    Thanks for sharing locations and sample images. Are there any aspen fall colors near Tahoe?

    • @GaryCrabbe
      @GaryCrabbe  10 лет назад

      Hi Aleksandr Khizgilov Not so much right at the lake. There are a few aspen stands around. The best area is just outside of the Tahoe Basin at a place called Sorensen's in the Hope Valley. I detail this a bit more in my book, Photographing California; vol.1-North

      Jerry Atienza My bad actually. It's actually called Mill Creek in Lundy Canyon. I just blurred the names together for too many years. Cheers,

    Equally as impressive to me is Lee Vining Canyon, although it lacks the beaver ponds.
    That and Rock Creek Canyon.
