Steps to Print Facebook Messenger Messages: 0:29

Printing important Facebook Messenger conversations is a good idea to ensure you'll always have a copy. Whether it's for a court case, or to have as a backup in case those conversation threads get deleted. Regardless of your reason, it is possible to print your Facebook Messenger messages, but it does require jumping through a few hoops.
Now let's walk through the steps to print your Facebook Messenger messages.
Step 1. Launch the Facebook app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. You'll land on your Facebook home screen.
Step 2. Tap the "Menu" icon along the bottom of the screen. The Menu screen appears.
Step 3. Scroll down to the bottom of the Menu screen, and then tap "Settings and Privacy" to expand that section. Tap "Settings" in that list. The Account Settings screen is displayed.
Step 4. Scroll down to the Your Facebook Information section, and then tap "Download Your Information." The Download Your Information screen appears.
Step 5. Tap "Deselect All" to remove the check mark from all of the options for information you can choose to export from Facebook. Then, scroll down the screen to find Messages, and then tap the radio button to the right of Messages to place a check mark there.
Step 6. Scroll down to the bottom of this screen. Adjust the Date Range, Format, and Media Quality options accordingly. I'd recommend leaving them set to the defaults, which is to export all of your data in an HTML format at a high quality. Tap "Create File" when you're done.
You'll receive an email from Facebook letting you know that your request has been received, and then you'll receive another email when your file is ready to download.
Step 7. Open a web browser and navigate to Facebook.com and log in to your account if prompted. You'll land on your Facebook home screen.
Step 8. Click the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the screen to open a drop-down menu, and then click "Settings" in that menu. The General Account Settings screen is displayed.
Step 9. Click "Your Facebook Information" in the menu on the left side of the screen. The Your Facebook Information window appears on the right side of the screen.
Step 10. Click "View" to the right of Download Your Information. The Download Your Information screen is displayed.
Step 11. Click "Available Copies" to see a list of your available Facebook information downloads you've requested. Click "Download" next to the information file you want to download. It should say "Messages" beneath the date. The file containing your Facebook Messenger messages is downloaded to your computer.
Step 12. Extract the downloaded ZIP file to a folder, and then open the folder. You'll see a Messages folder and an index file. Click to open the index file, which will open in your default web browser to a Your Information screen.
Step 13. Click "Your Messages" to open a window displaying a list of all of the people you had Facebook Messenger conversations with over the time frame you defined.
Step 14. Click the conversation thread you want to open. All of the messages in this Facebook Messenger conversation thread that happened over the time frame you defined will be displayed. From here, you can print this Facebook Messenger conversation thread from your web browser, or save it as a PDF. For example, in Google Chrome you would right-click on the conversation and then click "Print" to open the Print dialog box. Within that, you can click your destination to choose your printer or print this document to a PDF. Click "Print" after making your selection.

You're welcome. Glad this helped. I haven't done this in a while, but I remember it was quite the pain when I did it. I think the reality is that while Facebook could make this easier, there's just no incentive for them to do that.

Can you tell me how to print one long messenger chat?
I downloaded the way you said and got over 4 gig messenger data. I just need one long message conversation. Btw, I just got it in my copy download file. It looks like it’s in my iCloud. From there I’m lost on converting it to a pdf file to print

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I had a conversation that I wanted to print out to save AFTER I found out it might have been a SCAM conversation. I followed your directions and was able to download the entire conversation from Messenger on Facebook. I hope I never have to use it, but at least up to this point, I can document what the other person said accurately. THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO!

"Very simple, and not complicating at all"... are you watching the same video I am watching? Or are you being sarcastic? I don't consider 37 steps and having to go through FB to request your downloaded messages "simple and not complicated". This is just one more reason why I hate FB and Mark Fockerberg. Simple and not complicated is having a print function in Messenger, where you can take any Chat stream and print directly to .pdf. This would not be complicated to do, and FB could do this if they wanted to. They don't want to do this, it appears they would prefer to make life difficult for people.

You guys do realize right you can copy and drag it all the way to the last message and then put it in an email or if you have word or a tablet and then you can just print it or save it to a file I just can't do these 13 steps I'll be pulling my hair out of my head and I don't have much left as it is but it is a great video very well spoken I just can't even begin to imagine trying to follow these steps but thank you
I don't see the index file in the download. Anything change recently?
Some browsers don't seem to work when you get to "clicking the INDEX FILE" to view messages. IE and Chrome kept displaying errors "File not found". I switched to Microsoft Edge browser and everything went smoothly. Also, don't forget to extract the ZIP files before opening (Unless extraction happens by default when you open the zip file)

It really depends on how much data you have that needs to be packaged up. It could take up to a day.

hi max... when i download this file i only have a messages folder (which contains only photos and videos and no actual messages) and and enc file that i can't even open in a browser, no index file. i feel like im going crazy! please let me know if you have any solutions

HI, the process is a bit different now, I have downloaded messages, it gave me 7 separate zip files, I have unzipped each of them, but they only contain videos, photos, stickers, and voice messages under inbox and archived messages. there is no option to open a web browser, and I cant find any of the actual text from the messanger conversations.... any help much appreciated!

Hi, this worked upto step 12 and I can't proceed to step 13 coz it's telling me I have no app to open the link (your messages). Which app is needed when using an Android device? I just need to print all chat logs... tia

You may want to try downloading it again. Also, it can take a while.
Once I try to open up the index file, it automatically says, "blocked." Can someone assist me with this?
It doesn't work - there is no option to download the messenger. It's not even listed there.

I don't think you can define that up front, but after you export everything you should be able to easily cut that one conversation out.

i am not getting an html file, i get something .....facebook. a bunch of numbers.zip.enc??????? and if i go in messenger file all i have are files of pics, files shared, and gif. no conversation
