  • Eric Putkonen talks about desire and how desire remains after enlightenment. While craving/longing/thirsting/needing fall away, basic wanting or desire does not go away. And so there are still interests and hobbies too. The point is not to be desireless.
    This video is one of 200+ videos about nonduality, enlightenment, and living awake and engaged. Eric speaks in a down-to-earth and straightforward style while simplifying concepts of Advaita / nonduality.

    Awesome! How I look at it is the ego is fear and desire hand in hand. I have a desire and the associated fear of not getting it. This is very triggering. But remove the fear and the ego isn’t involved, you simply desire something. If you can be unattached and open to whatever happens then you can enjoy it. You can literally just enjoy the feeling of desire without ever even getting the desired thing. It’s all very peaceful and loving to witness being

    I also like the analogy of “preferences versus demands” in understanding “desires versus cravings.” Your video helps de-mystify the “enlightened” state & points to a less distressful way of living.

    Some years ago I had an experience which was crazy af. My whole body was shaking, i was full of bliss, my body was so light it dissolved. I felt like a drop of water merging with the ocean. It was the most beautiful thing i have ever experienced and i can't think of something being more beautiful. Since then my life was quite different. My world view was different. Some months ago i lost one of my testicles due to a medical accident. I did not even care about it, I was just like "why should I make myself sad because something happened which I can't change". In hospital I was just so greatful to be around people caring for me and making me feel safe. The beautiful experience I had, I did not want to call it enlightenment. But such videos resonate with me so much. Was that enlightenment?

      Enlightenment is not an experience, but you will know if enlightenment happened by the cessation of suffering in life and that there is no "me" that is believed anymore.

    Since I had my realization I’ve started honing my skills taking care of pot belly pigs. I’m not joking. My husband and I have 4 pot belly pigs and one lives in the house with us. She’s a better pet (for us) than a dog or cat. Anyway, I have learned how to trim pigs’ hooves and tusks so I’m starting a business being a pig farrier. I’m still pretty attached to my porcine friends, so I’m turning that desire into a livelihood. I’m also doing it in such a way to be as compassionate to the pigs as possible.

      The message will resonate with some and not others. While there is desire, there is also an ever willingness to lose what you have and ever willingness to not get/achieve what you want.

  • @junkjunk4148

    Good morning Eric, I was enlightened a few months ago, and i experienced it over 3 years in 4 distinct stages. I was wondering if you also had 4 stages. For me it was
    0- innocence
    1- feeling of the greatest thing ever, realizing that i can do whatever i want. (It was very intense and i started crying-though that might have been because it was during a difficult time)
    2-realization that everything is good? Or that there arent any enemies. (This for me happened over time - but with some intense ecstatic things interspersed)
    3- feeling just absolutely still and silent knowing that nothing at all could knock you down from where you are (for the most part)
    4- enlightenment- super intense and a feeling bigger than your whole life of the purest thankfulness
    So i was wondering if You had similar experiences to this. Also i was specifically wondering about the lower stages because I feel like people dont talk about them as much. Thank you so much!

    • @NondualityChannel
      @NondualityChannel  Год назад

      I would say there are no stages. The "me" is believed or the illusion of "me" has shattered and can no longer be believed. When there is no "me", how can there be stages for a "me" to traverse? As long as such things are happening for/to a "me"...that is not enlightenment...but an experience of some kind. No experience is enlightenment.
      It comes down to definitions. I define enlightenment as something very specific and point out that many spiritual experiences and glimpses are confused for enlightenment (as I define it). Enlightenment is the sudden, non-conceptual, and visceral insight or revelation that dispels ignorance and shatters illusions regarding who/what you are and the nature of reality. The insight instantly shatters the illusion of “me” and the illusion of separation or duality.

    • @junkjunk4148
      @junkjunk4148 Год назад

      @@NondualityChannel thanks. At the time of experiencing it they did not feel like stages, but on reflection they do kind of look like stages. Also I read somewhere something called 5 stages of enlightenment (just plus the 0th one) and that rang with my experiences too. I am quite surprised that you did not feel any stages in your spiritual "journey". Thank you for sharing your experiences.
      Also i am aware that the pure experience is continuous the whole time. The difference being the belief in the stories. But in order for enlightenment, the person must experience the maya first, and chose if they want maya or not. I was talking about these Qualities of the experience during the time. Im sure you felt something beautiful in your experience during the moment of enlightenment? Or no?

    • @NondualityChannel

      @@junkjunk4148 At the moment of enlightenment, there was realizing what has always been the case. I would not say I suddenly felt something beautiful in my experience during the moment of enlightenment. Just that current experience was understood differently.

    What was your way/path to "enlightenment". Was it an actual start here, finish here type process? Or was it of your own determined curriculum? How long did it take you to reach enlightenment? What was it that occured that made you feel or know you were "now" enlightened. Not trolling you, I'm actually curious for only good reason. ✌️

    Sri Ramana Maharshi: Desirelessness is wisdom. The two are not different; they are the same. Desirelessness is refraining from turning the mind towards any object. Wisdom means the appearance of no object. In other words, not seeking what is other than the Self is detachment or desirelessness; not leaving the Self is wisdom.
    There is room for kama (desire) so long as there is an object apart from the subject (i.e., duality). There can be no desire if there is no object. The state of no-desire is moksha.
    The non-dual experience will only be attained by those who have completely given up desires. For those with desires, it is far, far away. Hence it is proper for those with desires to direct their desires towards God, who is desireless, so that through desire for God the desires that arise through the delusion that objects exist and are different from oneself will become extinct.
    Except for the one who has completely cut the tie of desires, the false appearance [that he is a suffering jiva] will not cease. Therefore, without any hesitation, one should cut even the desire for the great Divine Happiness.
    O foolish mind who is suffering due to the desire for the petty pleasures of this world and of the next, if you remain quiet [i.e. without desire] you will certainly attain that State of Bliss which surely transcends the pleasures of these two.
