    I’ve used spinning reels my whole life, and just recently bought a bait caster. All the problems you spoke of, I had. I was beyond frustrated till I watched this video. Fixed all my issues and now it’s one of my favorite setups. Keep up the great work.

    Man I was watching the Bass Fishing HQ and he had a really good tuning strategy, he would basically loosen the spool tension until the spool started to have some give then slowly tightened it just to where it has no give and set your brakes to halfway I was making some nice casts in the 20mph wind and I didn't even need to thumb the spool

    Great points all that I agree with. One additional factor is line size, the thinner lower pound allowing us to farther. I would never consider using 8lb braid, but I need it to get any distance with small jigs.

    • @Shurmash
      @Shurmash 2 месяца назад

      Make sure that your cast is a smooth motion. You don't have to cast super hard with a casting reel. Unlike a spinning reel there is no lip to overcome. Make it one smooth motion accelerating as you go forward (whip cast). Set your spool tension so that there is a hair of side to side movement in spool. The spool tension should not be on. Turn your brakes to about 75% and then work your way down as you get better. Lightly feather the spool with your thumb. Cast with your index finger on the trigger so that your thumb is in the proper position to feather the spool. You should be feathering it from directly behind the reel and not pressing down on the spool. Cast with about 3'-4' of line so you can load up your lure and get more distance. Tight lines out there!

    Ive only ever used spinning reels and the other day i bought a baitcaster and ive been struggling with my lure going left when i cast, im not accurate at all with it.. Ive only been fishing with it 3 times (2 or 3 hours each time) and ive gotten a little better with it but it feels weird to let go so early... and i can only get it to fly about 20-30 yards.. but im going to loosen my spool tension and see what happens....

    What weight braided line should I use for the bait caster I used braided line before and I would always catch knots however I switched to 17lb flouro on a 7’3 medium heavy lews speed custom xp combo which has been great however I can’t cast very far even when I have a heavy lure on. The rod recommends 12-25lb line but do you think 10lb braid would work better for longer casting as I’m mostly targeting bass and what brand bread before I was using 20lb power pro but I’m open to anything

    What knot do you use to tie the backing to the main line? I use a uni-uni or an alberto knot for my leaders (don't know how to do an FG knot)... but I never reel my leaders into my spool... is there a smaller knot or way to hide the knot in your spool... or you just put on enough fluoro that it buries the knot way under it?

    • @Shurmash

    One thing you didn’t discuss is the centrifugal brake system that some baitcaster reels have. When I got my Mach Crush, I loved how smooth it casted, but was underwhelmed by the casting distance. It’s wasn’t until months later that I realized it had the centrifugal brake system with 2 of 4 switches turned on. Turning it to 3 switches off really helped improve distance. 4 off caused me to backlash, so 3 was the sweet spot. Does 3 seem like the sweet spot for you, as a Lew’s owner yourself now? Why do you think the centrifugal brake systems aren’t talked about as much as the magnetic brakes?

    I disagree on the braid theory based on my expierence. I lube my line to reduce memory my average cast is 65 ft on a spinning rig throwing 5/16th weight. ofcourse im no beginner. My jigs much less due to wind drag not line drag. if you will turn your wrist inward on a long cast with a bait caster you can gain 10-20 ft. My bait caster average with 1/2 oz is 85ft. With my carolina rig on 3/4 oz im hitting 120ft plus. hope it helps spomeone.

    • @Shurmash

      @@bonnievr5495Your brakes do all the work. Spool tension will limit how far you can cast. Set the spool tension so that there's a hair of side to side movement of the spool. Brakes at 75% to start then work your way down as you get better. Keep your thumb lightly on the spool as you begin to reduce the brakes. You won't really need your thumb with your brakes at 75%. Put your thumb on the spool as the lure is about to hit the water.

    I can only afford anything but the black max. Your reels are really really expensive an they can cast without the thumb on it. My black max can’t do that bro. So it matters very much about cheap vs expensive...right?

    • @JuvoII
      @JuvoII 3 года назад

      I would say the braking system. With a regular mag brake like a black max, it doesn't add much braking force as you release, so if you cast to hard you get a quick backlash. Later in the cast, the mag brakes more than you'd like, shortening the cast.
      Daiwa Fuego is the most inexpensive reel, with Daiwas smart brake system, Magforce Z, and thats a good system. For Shimano you'd have to save up for the SLX XT, for their infinity system. When you get one of these better braking systems, you will have a better time.
      My advice: Daiwa Fuego CT for sure. You can see if you can find it on sale, even more inexpensive then.
