I love this girl. She's so awesome. Never had a single voice lesson in her life before she got famous. She never thought this video was going to get as much attention as it did. The character was really just for fun. She did an interview on it. Her live version sounds so much like the recording is awesome.
Watch the interview she did when she first came to USA on RUclips. She explains all 3 or 4 songs. One is about her gay brother. The other is about the boy he met Aka Jimmy P. S. She wrote Dance Monkey in 10 minutes one night after a bunch of Frat and Sortie ppl bothered here and one stole her money. 10 minutes!!! That’s talent.
alex.三つ I believe I just searched Tones and I on RUclips. lol She does several small interviews but the main one to look for ;is the one where she’s being interviewed by a Radio Station host, about her first time coming to America.
I found this on the net about "Jonny Run Away" .... Tones and I said "'Johnny Run Away' is about my best friend coming out to his disapproving father at a young age. The song shows how people are dealing with judgement and rejection within their own family, as well as the world."
When I heard her sing live for the first time on videos I was SO captivated and I couldn’t stop saying “wow” and melting over her voice!! I rarely ever get so amazed by a singer live just bc ive been to so many concerts, but it’s refreshing to see “newer” artists and voices still just as amazing, a lot of the time even better than the artists we have been praising for years! I just love singers who are unapologetically themselves, so open, they aren’t afraid to show their true voices live even if they have a dance routine to it, it’s still impressive when they still sing live while dancing, even if their voices aren’t perfect it is hard to move around a lot and sing at the same time. I just like seeing raw talent, artists not afraid to have a voice crack, not afraid to accidentally mess up and not be completely perfect, yet still being so entertaining.
I absolutely love this song and her voice! Every time I hear it I HAVE to move because it's just THAT good lol!! Awesome and thank you for peeking at her other songs because they're all good!
She totally does have a similar sound to Cyndi Lauper with a little more soul. I can't believe that he didn't know who she is! I know who she is and I'm 28!
The entire She's So Unusual album is gold. Not only great/fun tunes, but a stellar recording too. Sounds great on a serious system. Many tracks are still in my playlist nearly 40 years later.
YASSSSS I just listened to Dance Monkey and I actually fell in love with her voice instantly 😍 her voice is so meaningful and calming ❤️ and yes it’s like a story haha loved your guys commentary and ily wyo russ ❤️
I really adore you guys . 💚 This was my absolute favorite song for a min, she is something special yes.. I want to say I really appreciate your channel. I'm new to it. You are both teaching me so much about a quality healthy relationship. I'm glad in found yous. :)
its called a wine... hank sr was known to do alot of songs with a wine in his voice... same with patsy cline and many other country bluegrass singers. She has very good control over her voice and a perfect wine in her tone.
The matisyahu reference was epic! Glad someone other than myself still thinks of them and has respect for their passion and connection to the world. Love you guys!
Hey gents! Stumbled across your channel yesterday. I love watching you two. The reaction vids are fun, but I'm here for the life vids. You two remind me of my partner and I (we're in Texas), and I love how down to earth and "disconnected" you two are to the "gay scene." Keep up the great work. I'm sure there are many men who need content like this in their life. Whether y'all realize it or not, you're role models. Kudos. - Josh
Hello from Germany!! Personally I liked how you two did some resarch on her as a Singer as well as on her success Story, before you went through her Songs.. And I also appreciated the way how you talked about your different perceiptions of her music and especially The " Dance Monkey " Sound...Thank you for your interesting , profound and at the same time easy- going comments on ' Tones and I'....I am a big Fan of her and her music !!!
Hey Dillion and Chris. How are you guys? I’m in Arkansas and heading to the Ozark Mountains in the morning. I remember you guys talking about going there. I love watching your videos. You and Chris are my favorite RUclipsr’s. Love you both 🌈💙💜😘🌈🙂
I bought the whole album. The meaning behind these songs is touching and meaningful. Never seen the Rain. We work and work, pay taxes but we never see the reward except a few of us. We never feel the rain. Vacation, new home, new car, etc.
Dance Monkey- Swap the word monkey to sing and you will easily understand what the song is about. Its about people expecting her to sing for them, anytime they ask or give her money as a busker and artist. P.S The film clip was made after the song became a hit. A indie radio station in Australia played her songs and they became mainstream literally within weeks. Check out Triple J- Toni's and I
That sound that yall are trying to explain at the ends of phrases is called a vocal flip. Lots of vocalists use it stylistically. Its difficult but you learn how to control it pretty well with practice. Examples of other artists that use it pravalently are The Jonas Brothers and the singer in the cranberries.
Kelsey Deboer RIP Delores O’Riordan - Beautiful, talented, senstive and troubled. She drowned 2 years ago in hotel bathtub after drinking too much. Linger and Zombie still give me goosebumps. There’s lots of vitriolic haters of Tones and I. She came as a bolt from the blue whenI first heard her Unearthed by Triple J radio. I knew she was something special and polarises opinion. Toni seems so gentle hearted and stunned by her own success. Watch her ARIA speeach after winning best female artist; “thank you Australia for saying I’m OK just the way I am”. I hope she will be OK. Australia has terrible tall poppy syndrome - cutting down people who grows too successful, especially if their rise is too fast (it is more American to celebrate success).
Johnny Run Away - A song she wrote about her Best Friend ( Or Brother, I forgot which ) who was Gay, and the father would tell him to control and suppress how he felt. Never Seen the Rain - "Never seen the rain is about the fear of failure, she wrote it to let people know it's okay to fail, and to learn from it. Chance "Never seen" to Fear of, and "the rain" as Failure.
its a controlled crack btw lol the thing she does at the end of her lines. its almost immitating vocal damage but its perfection. alanis morissette and the girl from cranberries does it A LOT
Hi, ive never watched your channel before. I was watching tones and i videos and came across this one. Sorry i dont know your names yet. The man on the left reminds me of Robin Williams, so I instantly fell in love with you, and subscribed haha.
FYI Google is wrong, she's not 19 and Dance Monkey is about how at times as an artist she's expected to perform like a 'Dancing Monkey' which is why it's so ironic that it's become her biggest hit 😊
You guys are amazing love ya vids, love tones n I such a great soul n talent, couple suggestions check out Bliss n Eso, they're Aussie boys, also Melanie Martinez, Nahko bear and medicine for the people, and Aurora aren't Australian but are amazing artists. Keep shining!

Chris cracks mute up. The looks he give and he always look so annoyed by Chris when he gets to talk in it's almost like get to the point and shut up it's great I love it. I would have slapped him when he told me he didn't know who Cyndi Lauper was man

@Susan Mason Me either

Did you film all the reaction film in one sitting or Dillon just happens to really love his gift.

Yes. Cyndi Lauper. Exactly what I thought. Incredible range and uniqueness no other has. Nobody else has noted that
FYI Google is wrong, she's not 19 and Dance Monkey is about how at times as an artist she's expected to perform like a 'Dancing Monkey' which is why it's so ironic that it's become her biggest hit 😊

I think the word you were looking for was 'fry' the sound her voice makes
I was talking about the official video and then she used the same dance for Avia Awards

Sorry late to show.
You know sound is one thing soul is depth. She sings from depth.
Love you long time lol
the word you are looking for to describe the sound in her voice is raspiness.
Yes! A Cyndi Lauper/Sia quality
She just bought a house around the corner from me, so I guess I'll see her down the shops soon. Be cool if she's busking down there one day.
Paul wow where is it? so cool!
