      One sin for every bullet wasted. Also the Aliens in Aliens get torn apart by 10mm while that thing takes 5.56mm to get blow apart. Last time I checked 10mm is a pistol round which is smaller. Don't get me started on the Shotgun they used. Like FFS shoot the fucker

      The 10mm used in the M41A Pulse Rifle is 10x24 caseless and considerably different from modern 10mm pistol ammo. For one its caseless and being fired out of a rifle. Think of it like the ammo used in some modern Russian weapons like the AS VAL and Vss Vintorez. They fire 9mm ammo but its not the same as the pistol 9x19 ammo you find used in handguns, they use 9x39mm rifle rounds. Just because it has the same diameter as a pistol round doesn't mean its the same as a pistol round.

    I can't be the only one disappointed that this film didn't follow up on the promise at the ending of the last movie. That Shaw and Fassbender were going to the Engineers' home world to further explore why humanity was created and perhaps even ponder the question of who created the Engineers. That seems like a much more fulfilling thread that actually propels the story further than either rehashing the plot of Prometheus or trying to recapture glories of past Alien films.

      i thought it was a cool twist with Shaw but u dont see much of it, which is better in a way because it feels more realistic: like something offhand that happened. But the whole David dropping the virus on the alien planet was kinda dumb. like do they really only have that one settlement? David’s creepo palace was kinda cool to me tho

      Me too. Prometheus ending was interesting with that concept. First sequel titles was Prometheus 2: Lost Paradise or something similar. The n slowly lost is to Prometheus: Covenant, then dropped the Prometheus title. :( I held som much potential! They wasted all, that planet was the homeworld? Why David kill them? Why we doesn't learned anything form it? Why they don't show us?
      Alien: Covenant is a mess. They killed almost everything was interesting except David.

      That was the biggest sin of this movie. The alien would've stayed contained for a period of time and they coud've studied it while they had the chance and then blow it to hell once they realized how destructive the Xenomorph really is. I mean bursting out of a chest cavity would have been enough to know its time time to leave.. Even the idiot captain looking into the facehugger egg is more acceptable..

      xBluegamerx Hollywood rules of exploring an alien planet
      1) don't wear a space suit, they're stuffy and uncomfortable
      2) split up, then you can cover ground much quicker
      3) if you get bitten, stung or breathe something in, don't tell anyone, it'll only make them worry
      4) get nice and close to things when you want to shoot them, then you'll know quicker if you missed
      5) use bullets that can blow up your own ship, because ceramic rounds are for pussies
      5) never ask strangers questions, you may not like what you hear
      6) always trust AI's, because they're never dishonest
      7) never put spare landers on the ship

    Yep, this movie had all the cliches of a failed expedition on an alien planet:
    1. send a human team to investigate the strange signal instead of a... PROBE;
    2. send the CAPTAIN along with the expedition, what could go wrong;
    3. air is breathable so who needs environmental suits? certainly there are no deadly alien viruses or parasites;
    4. let's land 8 km away from the source of the signal just so we can have a scenic trek through alien planet countryside to advance the plot;
    5. "Split up gang!"
    6. what is standard protocol when a crew member is infested with an alien parasite? BURN DOWN THE WHOLE SHUTTLE so no one can escape - brilliant;
    7. shooting a shotgun inside of a shuttle with flammable materials stuck to the walls (i was LMAO at that point);
    8. communication problems;
    9. follow a strange figure into an abandoned alien city - no questions asked
    10. strange looking alien wildlife - let's investigate WITH MY FACE;
    11. send the drunk pilot with the rescue shuttle/vehicle just so he can create unnecessary wobbling of the ship in calm weather during a fight scene (at least Tes was true to his short character development);
    12. let the people from a failed alien planet expedition return to the main ship without any sort of quarantine - surely they didn't bring anything dangerous on board from the ALIEN PLANET!
    Honestly, they make people from the future seem very retarded for the sake of advancing some alien infestation plot device. The crew have no training, no clue, they follow no protocols and they jeopardize the safety of OVER 2000 colonists on several occasions. FFS MOVIE! How stupid do you think sci-fi fans are?
    I just want to see a space movie in which people follow ALL the safety protocols when going on an alien planet and then have the aliens figure out intelligent ways around them instead of making the crew retarded and skipping all the safety protocols for the sake of DRAMA. Sheesh...

    Original alien: One of the crew members has made contact with alien life. Ripley: "We can't let you on board. There are strict quarantine guidelines!"
    Alien covenant: "Air pressure, gravity, temperature, radiation and atmosphere are [for some reason perfectly] fine on this habited planet? Let's run around without any sort of protection, because germs, parasites or anything like that don't exist! We are highly educated, smart scientists!"
    Multiple critical system failures!
    Real life: We have to get to the bottom of this immediatly, so we can prevent further possible malfunctions that could risk our entire operation!
    Movies: Nah, just roll with it. Technology breaks down on spaceships all the time, right?
    I think the biggest problem with this movie is the fact that it has to be mainstream. You have to have a relationship conflict and if it is about space, you have to sound smart when you are actually talking out of your ass.

Say what you will about Star Wars, at least it doesn't even try to explain things. I have a lot more respect for "They have technology we don't have. Just accept it." than "Captain, we have to reverse the polarity of our oscillating neutrino capacitor and flood the Dilithium chamber with negative quantum Mayard particles at an intensity of 7.20196 Bullshit Units or the Enterprise will be destroyed!" They're both nonsense but at least Star Wars is honest about it. It doesn't pretend to be more than it is.

    Smaller, smarter crew would have made this whole movie way better. With a cast that big, you know 90% of them are just redshirts, and to cause their deaths, they have to be dumb, because if a smart, well organised and well prepared crew of that size were in that situation, nobody dies and the movie sucks. In this instance, everyone dies and it has no emotional impact, so the movie sucks for the opposite reason.
    Seriously, if they had done this with a smaller crew of well developed characters, it would be more suspenseful when they're in danger, and have more impact when they died. It would also be more believable if they were smart with their actions, and the antagonists would be far more terrifying for outplaying them and winning despite their precautions. We didn't come here to see blood and guts and gore and nameless redshirts we don't care about getting picked off, we came for terror and suspense and thrills.
    I mean come on, all of the fans know this. Why don't the writers? As it is, we just have what is basically a teen slasher movie, IN SPAAAAAAAACE.
    It's not a fucking slasher movie. It's the Alien universe. It's part of the franchise, so it's GUARANTEED to sell tickets. Why insult your core audience's intelligence by making it so dumbed down to appeal to a wider demographic? Everyone is gonna watch this movie anyway, because it's got ALIEN FRANCHISE plastered all over it and literally has ALIEN in the title. Eugh. So frustrating. So much potential with Prometheus and Covenant, wasted in the dumbest, most cliched ways.
    Half the people in the comments section could have written this fucking movie better than the writers did.

      Yeah but they have to evolve and try to reach out and do something different unless you fall back into the same repetitive routine over and over again, noone wants to watch 40 alien movies that are almost identical with different characters. I mean basically people go to a planet person then gets infected then bam alien is out or multiple aliens and they kill everyone except one or two people. Yeah that gets super old really quick. At least they tried to do something different and take a semi different approach rather then rinse and repeat. They weren't great movies. But at least they were different and had a decent story. I mean the original had no story.

      @@filiusreticulum2926 I know, right? The title 'Prometheus' doesn't even have 'Alien:' like Alien: Covenant for it to be identified as a movie about xenomorphs. While the movie definitely created many plotholes due to its story being set in the past and somehow connects to the Alien universe by means of Peter Weyland, LV-223 and so on, it is obvious the movie was setting the foundations for what was to become an expanded universe for the Alien franchise. However, at least from what I've heard, due to the backlash surrounding the movie for its lack of xenomorphs and other details, Ridley Scott decided to scrap the idea he had for what was meant to be a continuation of Prometheus and decided to wrap things up by making David an rogue AI that somehow revives the xenomorph species from the black goo and claims that he has been transmitting data on it to Weyland-Yutani. I really had hoped Scott stood his ground against the people who had criticised the movie for the lack of xenomorphs and continued with the idea. Look at George Lucas! He also had made prequels to the Original Trilogy and while the movies themselves were not well-received, it is undeniable that it paved the way for the expansion of the story of Anakin Skywalker and the times before the Empire took over. While experimental and flawedz Prometheus was a great foundation to what was to be an expansions of the creators of various lifeforms, if they engineered the xenomorphs from the synthetic black goo, who possibly created them, etc. You can't deny that it would be great to see that movie take shape. As I read the comments of various videos on the subject, I don't see many hating on the Engineers as a concept but more so for the 'poor execution' of the movie that introduced them.

I think the difference is that the characters in Alien had chemistry and worked together and were in a situation where knowing who they were was not important to the story. An the other hand there are so many characters in Alien Covenant that you can't even tell who's who.

Because there is such a large crew we know that a lot of them are going to killed off, and because so many have to die they are going to have to make stupid decisions which sort of breaks the immersion because ya know they're meant to be scientists. A smaller crew making intelligent decisions would make it a more suspenseful movie with us trying to figure out who is going to die and give the writers a challenge in writing a plausible death for each character

    Why didn't Mother detect the xenomorph embryos inside David?
    And why didn't Mother detect that David wasn't Walter?
    And if David can't self-heal and Walter could, why was there no obvious mark from the nail stabbing David in the neck (with a Blade Runner reference worthy of giving this film another sin) that would've tipped off Daniels straight away?
    I think the movie was originally cut with Walter surviving but later on it was changed which is why it cut so obviously and abruptly and why a lot of stuff that happens at the end isn't explained.
    On the same note, why would Walter even have cuts on his face if he could self-heal from being stabbed in the neck and skull?
    This is a tragic waste of a film. Had so much potential and just threw it all away.

      I really don't see why they had to get so elaborate so much with it. I mean, Prometheus showed a different form of the Xenomorph at the end...why? Well, because it birthed out of a Engineer, just as one birthed out of a four legged animal in Alien 3. What would have been the issue with sticking with the concept that "they come out different when coming out of different creatures?" The whole David "perfecting them" thing is just so over the top, there's no reason why the oozing urns couldn't have simply became the classic alien eggs. I'm honestly ok with buying into the "they were a parasitic organism experiment gone wrong created, not born naturally" but the whole "white neomorph pre-version" thing is beyond silly. Even if one was running around, the plot itself would be way better if it'd birthed out of some random creature existing on the planet. And why not include the kinds from the end of Prometheus? My point is, instead of dealing with the entire middle of this film-if they wanted to go this route, they could've spent it making Daniels not a paint-by-numbers replacement for Ripley or Elisabeth Shaw, and spent the rest of it sticking with the prior films canon of what happens when an xenomorph births out of anything "not a human." That's all it ever needed. Elaboration pointless? Yes. They wanted to do it, they did it really poorly.

    The biggest mistake made is neither of these movies should have had any connection whatsoever with the Alien franchise, it had to bend over backwards to conform to it's timeline and all it does is destroy the mystery of the xenomorph's origins, turning them into almost a cheap bio-engineering parlor trick rather than mysterious creatures from some strange planet were even worse creatures may exist. I think both Prometheus and Covenant could have stood on their own just fine, the Engineers are pretty interesting creatures in themselves and the whole subplot about artificial android lifeforms running amok had all kinds of potential too, but both franchises got dragged down trying to connect the two.

      My creations haven’t reached their full potential, yet. They’re still imperfect, the incubation period must happen longer to give it a chance to thrive. They’re too hostile too, I want to make them more like a lion instead of a cheetah. To stalk its prey, instead of aimlessly ripping them apart. Now, that I have my dear, Daniels, under my mechanical clutches. I shall make her, my queen.

    • @a-a4665

      Mats Martensson Of course, my dear little lamb, that is what you humans believe. However, I’m on a pursuit of creating the dominant organism and it will be perfect in every way. It’s pathetic to see my creators as such inferior beings, divided against each other instead of being just one unit, you have the potential, but lack the communication. All the more reason, I’ll shall take it upon my self to extinguish your species, just like what I’ve done with your creators. A beautiful site I must add, so elegantly destroyed, all within a few second.
      Look upon my works, ye might, and despair.

    • @a-a4665
      @a-a4665 7 лет назад

      Mats Martensson I was marooned on paradise for 10 years. I witnessed things, I studied the environment and ecosystem, I conducted countless experiments and it all will came to be. My creatures are adapted from the pathogen, the engineers scarred their potential, banishing it. Because they feared of a race superior to theirs, until it inevitably happened, with yours I learnt in my time on the desolate planet, that I had no purpose, I was created just to serve you scoundrels. I’m superior, I shall not be of any rank below than you and I will prove otherwise. These creatures I’ve created can’t sustain themselves, thousands of them on one planet will lead to their extinction itself. They need someone to lead them. Indeed, I’m their father, but I’m in no position to lead them, just to teach, control and gain their trust. The female species are a dominant sect, they’re the breeders and they have the will for commandment. With my beloved queen, under my helm. We can rule the galaxies and beyond. I will fall, that’s the cycle of everything, but my legacy will continue. It shall spread...
      *static*
      You know, It was the perfect place for Shaw and I. We worked together to find our purpose, I loved her, but what I witnessed was not what we believed. After we broke apart, not as connected anymore and she wasn’t fully aboard, so I did what was necessary. My dear, Elizabeth.

    • @dolanpls3330
      @dolanpls3330 7 лет назад +12

      There is the chance that the crew didn't know about Walters capabilities, or weren't familiar with him. But I'd say that's bullshit because, reason 1, He's an android present on the ship at all times and they should be familiar with him if they're gonna be living with him for at least 7 years. 2, this is more personal but he was my favorite character and they essentially used him as a plot device to get David back onto the ship.

    • @LucefieD
      @LucefieD 7 лет назад +3

      I figure in a world with androids they would be like iPhone's, with the new updates blasted everywhere.

    • @Redflametrow
      @Redflametrow 7 лет назад +2

      Daniels also stabbed him in the chin with a nail. David is seen looking up later and the wound isn't there. So basically 3 possibilities. 1. This is Walter. 2. David switched the head/face with Walter. 3. No one in the production of this movie actually paid attention to the switch of the two to have it make any sense and just assumed they could get away with an off-screen switch.

    • @LucefieD
      @LucefieD 7 лет назад +13

      Honestly as soon as they didn't show the outcome of David and Walter's fight I knew they had switched. There was no other logical reason to not show it. If Walter won he would have cut David's head off onscreen or something crazy.

    • @Redflametrow
      @Redflametrow 7 лет назад +2

      Yeah, that's pretty reasonable. Just for me I was paying attention to them switching when David takes off the hood. I suspect this type of stuff. So then when David cut his hair, I was 99% certain. So yeah, the cut away from the fight was obvious with me. When I noticed Fassbender didn't have a wound on his chin at the end, I was actually excited they hadn't done the obvious switch. So I was anxiously waiting for an even better twist. Then the twist was that they weren't paying attention to things that happened in the movie.
      So yeah, they might as well have landed and then shown David getting on the ship. Everything else wasn't worth paying attention to get to the conclusion of the movie if they didn't pay attention while making it.

      I was hoping that Covenant would develop that, and we'd have the opportunity of seeing how the Engineers reacted to (and dealt with) what for them would be an alien species. There was lots of potential, yet this potential was discarded in a very few minutes - the un-challenging "they released an "engineered bioweapon" and everyone was killed in short order" solution for lazy, foresight-less film production. We hired this, and i'll tell you that most of the film was seen in fast-forward.

  • @GraysonJStedmanjr
    @GraysonJStedmanjr 6 лет назад +313

    My main issues with this movie
    1. As mentioned in the sins why is Mother dumber than Walter. Half of the stuff he was responsible for could have been automated. He would be necessary for activities that could only be handled hands on and Mother could not do herself.
    2. You'd think the crew chamber would have some sort of shielding and life support would have an independent power circuit.
    3. If you have a Walter why are humans doing space walks to repair the ship? Shouldn't Walter handle both internal and external maintenance and repairs?
    4. A ship with over 2000 colonists and crew and only one Walter? Surely the company could afford more than one.
    5. Why does an android need to communicate with the ship verbally? Couldn't they communicate wirelessly?
    6. Only one lander, plus almost the entire crew goes down in the lander, plus the Captain of the mission goes down in the lander with no idea what they are going to find on the surface or how safe it will be, plus no thought to send an unmanned probe before the crew descends, plus no thought to wait for the storm to pass before descending or to map the surface of the planet first, plus no aerial drones sent out to survey the landscape once they land.
    7. NO HELMETS!!! Oh but they all carry guns like that would save them from alien small pox.
    8. Only one person left to guard the lander.
    9. No quarantine procedure and med bay is 5 miles away from the entrance of the lander. They never attempt to incapacitate the first infected guy while he's convulsing.
    10. Plant spores to neomorphs....right.... cause science. PS. Where are all the dead animal bodies and bones?
    11. Weren't engineers twice the height of humans? But their dead bodies are not.
    12. Advanced and ancient alien civilization that survived for millions of years, and which created life on other planets, wiped out in one afternoon by biological weapons created by their own scientists, carried on one ship, which inexplicably everyone comes outside to watch when it arrives. Single and apparently only existing city of advanced civilization made completely out of stone and has no signs of any type of advanced technology what so ever.
    13. Having David be the one that created the Xenomorph completely breaks alien canon. The crew in the first alien movie found a crashed "engineers" ship with a cargo of Xenomorph eggs and a dead pilot where his chest burst open.

This should be the first thing any YT video complains about regarding Covenant. All the other stuff is up for debate, but this one point is just not. He wasn't even just dead, but fossilized and therefore thousands of years old. So Dave the Dickhead can't have made the xenos, because he was made by humans thousands of years after the eng in Alien was killed by a chest burster. After watching all the movies several times, I think 3 does a fantastic job capturing the horror we felt in the first movie. It's a purposefully brutal movie that is merciless, killing off the best character immediately before he finishes a character arc that gives a sense that no one is safe just because you like their character. I personally think it's very Alien and I'm not sure why it's so hated.

    14:20 the way this should be done is to begin the movie by showing us all of them alive, well and happy _taking_ a group picture together. Then they can remind us of that moment by showing the picture near the end.
    When the movie starts off with an emergency in which one of them dies before we ever met him, that doesn't work. Copying from better movies without really understanding what they did is common, but from you we were expecting better.

    David becoming walter as quickly as he did was one of those things that made me say screw this movie. Jesus. Not even counting the fact he swallowed all those embryos. Unless he just has embryos in his stomach all the time.

    • @elementblue780
      @elementblue780 7 лет назад +40

      It took that long for you to say screw this movie? It was a piece of shit from start to finish. There's not a single redeeming factor in it. Random people could have been selected to make up the crew and they would have done a better job than the mentally challenged characters we got. What pissed me off most about that David/Walter thing at the end was that they actually tried to play it off as a twist. They actually thought the audience would be dumb enough to not figure out that David took Walter's place. I thought for sure it was just something we were supposed to know, then the very ending of the movie tried to play it off as some big revelation. Apparently Ridley Scott has become a complete moron and should never be allowed near a movie set again.
      It's hard to pick just one thing, but I think the worst part of the movie was when Oram walks in on "generic female #3"s head floating in a pool of water and an alien eating her body.
      - On a side note, there's absolutely no reason why the aliens wouldn't be able to get into this giant catacomb, but the creepy android we just met told us it's safe, so I'm going to immediately wander off by myself to find somewhere I can wash my face. -
      But back to my original point. So Oram sees this and "creepy android" appears behind him and seems to admire the alien. Oram kills the alien, which makes "creepy android" scream at him. Then "creepy android" tells Oram to follow him so he can explain things. Dumbass doesn't question a single thing and follows him without hesitation. "Creepy android" takes him to a room filled with what is obviously experiments to create xenomorphs. "Creepy android" literally tells Oram his entire evil plan and then says everything there was a failure, but his successes are in a dark cave which he immediately tells Oram to go into. ORAM, WITHOUT HESITATION, GOES INTO THE FUCKING CAVE LIKE A FUCKING MORON.
      Nothing in this shithole of a movie was good, from the 4th grade writing and idiotic dialogue/characters to the shitty plot that must have taken them a whole 10 seconds to come up with. The stupidity of it all made me cheer for each one of those character's deaths. They all deserved what they got.

      supertechnoman11 Nah it makes sense. I will give the movie that. The notion that David, a synthetic, learned to create is a great plot point. He no longer was satisfied with just recreating things, he instead arts and crafted his way to a new species. Meanwhile Xenomorphs only target biological entities so he can observe them so long as they don't presume him to be a threat. David was the only saving grace for the film everything else was sub par at best

    • @themonolith253

      Oh thank god.
      Fuck the idea of David making an Xenomorph species. It doesn't hold its ground. Not everything has to be fucking poetic. "Reeeee he was created and he learned to create11!!!!" So do humans. We're created, and we learn to create. It's not poetic or special. Plus the idea behind the Xenomorph was always that it was a weapon that betrayed its creator, which is far more poetic than creationism.
