@Majisu Vanessa i totally understand that, for me it's a lot of her mannerisms as well as her being from America and saying the n word 😭. I dont have a problem with her fashion though, and the homophobia is very foggy to me as I don't know much about it. CL and Jessi are the most inspiring women on this industry, the way they talk and here jessi, is unique, often people and more women who speak what they want and how they want it are the most criticized, but I admire that fr, love jessi and her words, I totally respect her a lot.
True!! Everything Jessi said it always reminds me of 🆑. Like when she mentioned being an alien because she didn't know where she really belong (🇺🇸 or 🇰🇷) it definitely reminds me of 🆑 when she once mentioned in Complex interview being in different schools (🇯🇵 or Paris or 🇰🇷). And when Jessi also mentioned that she's not weird but just different and 🆑 also said the same thing in an interview back then (not sure about the exact date but it's been years passed) that being different isn't wrong and being different is okay. Jessi also mentioned she doesn't want to be labeled as a rapper or whatsoever instead she wants to be called as an artist and it reminds me so much of 🆑 too because she also mentioned in an interview back in 2014 or something. I loved these two! 🍒
I've not been watching as much atm cos I can only listen or watch whilst doing something else. As an English speaker tho, I take this like this as an honour cos its really only the first time I've not had something I'm interested in my language whilst other cultures are always using subtitles. I feel lucky to even have odd content like this available!
Eric Nam is such an incredible MC.. He makes his guests so comfortable, boosts their confidence and helps them formulate their answers when they’re in lack of words.. Love this guy
Me too. I'm Mexican and have been living back and forth between Mexico and the US. I think it's pretty common to feel like we don't necessarily belong in either place, you kind of get used to it.
Immigrant minorities feel the same way. I am from Pakistan and then lived in Canada, now the US. I'm too westernized back home, and too brown for people here in the US
Jessi surviving in korea is just so inspiring, I know that she's still receiving the hates that she's been receiving ever since, for breaking "standards" but she still continued ruling her life and being herself. I think, she's one of those artists in korea who inspired new artists these days to really be themselves, to show the real side of them and that's just what we all need. A Queen indeed.
Jessi : Yesterday i cried, Eric : what did you cry about? Jessi : i dont know, i just so thankful (with trembling voice) Eric : ooh.. (touched, like a proud friend) I love this part. Make my hearth feel warm.
I didn't watch but what I know is she's a rapper came out that show, then I realised she's good at singing and I was confused lol. Then it was explained in this video. Maybe she's just perfectionist like she said. So she has to work perfectly even for make rap lines.
After all, she debut as singer, not a rapper. So before unpretty rapstar, she dont do rap. But she can do rap. U can search jessi - unpretty dream U will love it
I was also surprised because I have heard about Jessi before but I just didn't liked her but when youtube recommended me Unpretty rapstar, yoww I was blown away by her rap! She's a real badass and I really think up to now that she's the best on that season, and she's one of the best rappers in korea. And hell yeah, I just loved her so much now!
When Jessi said “Eric is the sweetest guy” I remembered when he came to Mexico city on his Honestly tour, and after the show even though he was tired, he gave a hug to everyone who bought the VIP ticket, he asked everyone how was the show and have little conversations. In that little interaction I knew he is such an exceptional person and that made me totally fall for him, as a person and as and artist.
@@fiyxmie yes she does, she used to live in different countries cuz of her father's job. She knows to speak english, korean, japanese, and french if i'm not mistaken.
when Jessi said I am not f'in comedian, it is absolutely true with every foreign idols I stan they work really hard in korean shows to get accepted .... I wish Korea accepts them and looks at them like normal idol singers rather than entertainers/comedians. BTW Love Jessi so much and thank you Dive for inviting her ...
She still wants to be an actress 😭 I suddenly remembered her enthusiasm and how much she wanted to act in Jinkyung's documentary for Sister Slam Dunk 🥺
Omg yes. They had to edit Jessi's scene so many times because she couldn't keep a straight face or get the lines right. The actual scene was so choppy due to the editing they had to do 😂.
Well at first I got the same flashbacks. But I believe that J is able to work on herself and act is she wants. Now she has a better life so may be her hidden talents will show easily.
eric and jessi arguing is quite literally the most hilarious thing to witness or hear because it's never negative but always aggressively complimenting, excited or determined
Jessi is DOPE! she is who she is being herself! she’s honest and her music also daebak! I’m Happy that she joined P Nation and grow as an artist! Eric also have talent to make everyone comfortable and not just an interview! Please invite Jessi again next time!
Ive never listened to her music or watched her videos, but this interview made me become her fan in minutes. She's just so honest, friendly, authentic, humorous, confident but humble, down to earth, so dramatic but chill at the same time
Their dynamic brings so much joy, from jessi's antics to eric's laughter. Next time they need to: - make a song or a cover together - do some compatibility tests/activities in their next podcast Cause their chemistry is chill, so different yet so similar. Can't wait to see what they're do in future.
‘Refund sisters’ means that women who are not easy to reject. Refund is hard in Korea, it’s kind of culture. We have to explain why I want to refund. When I came to US, I realize it’s too easy to refund, this country. It was a culture shock. People even don’t ask the reason why I want to refund. They just refund. Jessi looks comfortable because she speaks English. She talks lots of behind story that I’ve never heard. It was fun and good.
Judging by the mv & song alone, I thought Refund Sisters were try-hards & intentionally faking the badass concept. Refund Sisters is really a confusing concept, the mv & song make little to no sense. Not easy to reject for whom, please? And why does it sound like complaining/whining? Your interesting, social context makes me think that the reason getting refunds is difficult is bcz there is a sort of guaranteed trust in Korean goods, not so much in US. So asking for refunds, can sound like unnecessarily making a fuss or whining. Plus there is the existing stigma of women who are always complaining & "Dont touch me" sounds like a rich, uncultured woman who is throwing a childish tantrum. The message the listener gets is that if you reject Refund Sisters, well then you are stupid for rejecting them (i.e. not doing what they say). I dont know whether it was Lee Hyori or MBC who decided on this concept. It looks like the concept was made to accomodate Jessi who seemed to be still renowned for her Senunni character, rather than a solo artist. Although they may have meant well, in the end Refund Sisters is a farce & makes powerful women a joke. Especially disappointing at a time when Seoul's 'feminist' Mayor committed suicide rather than going to jail. Also, maybe MBC/LeeHyori should have translated Jessi's past English lyrics to understand Jessi's Ssenunni & Unpretty Dreams. I was really looking forward to Hyori's GG, but this left me disappointed. It looks like Hyori also had doubts over the song, while recording it. Maybe people were glad just to have 4 legendary singers back on screen, but there should have been more thought over the concept, mv & song without trying to 'adjust' to Jessi. Maybe Hyori was trying to understand Jessi's true personality & instead of having a personal chat with her, she made this GirlGroup on a variety show to see if Jessi was going behave uncultured. Anyway, Jessi took the challenge in the right spirit. Her part in the song stands out for being real, in the American sense (Her Gyopo Oppas also helped her with the lyrics) & to a Korean audience, they will feel that Jessi's badass attitude has Hyori's approval as Hyori is the Leader. I like that Hwasa & UJH brought emotion in their parts. Hyori's parts are tolerable only because we know her. Anyone else trying to sing Hyori's parts...RIP to your career. Refund Sisters really made me realise how important it was for Jessi to have a well-respected, Korean sunbaenim's approval on TV inorder to finally be accepted by the Korean public at large. This was NOT part of Hyori's or Yoo Jaesuk's plan for Jessi, but Jessi understood the larger picture. The rest of the cast & staff on the show never really understood the significance of Refund Sisters. They look lazy, petulant & blank. Jessi is so refreshing & inspiring to watch. After the success of Refund Sisters, singers & entertainers are thinking that Yoo Jae Suk owes them similar success. If only they knew the true reality behind Refund Sisters.....
@@PMariaM-rk4jr I thought Refund Sisters and the song was more of a joke, like a mock, a satire, a fun and not serious thing. So I didn't and don't take it seriously 🤷🏻♀️
@@MadCheshireHat Korean news lauded refund sisters for being feminist, defying ageism & setting a new paradigm for KPOP GirlGroups. MBC did not know that reporters would write pieces like this? Do they not teach feminism in Korea? And are MBC/How Do YouPlay run by male chauvinists? Jessi was the only woke member who looked bewildered by the hypocrisy of Jimi Yu & Refund Sisters. The Show also looked quite smug to know that an international audience was showering Refund Sisters with praise for being feminists, etc. by reading English comments below the video. To me, it looks like the entire cast & crew pulled off a successful con-fooling both Korean press, international audience & Jessi-by making them believe in a norm-breaking GirlGroup, that to them was all a joke, a fantasy. It's disgusting & Lee Hyori knows it was all a mockery. They should have atleast told Jessi that it was going to be a joke. That they didn't, goes to show that they don't trust Jessi because she is a foreigner. I did not enjoy watching Jessi being "teased", basically bullied by YJS aka "Oh, its Jimi Yu, not the national MC YJS who is teasing you". It perpetuates the stereotypes of not trusting Asians who will stab you in the back. I have Korean friends & they cautiously tell me that watching Korean shows & understanding KPOP music industry can put off gullible foreigners from appreciating music & entertainment, entirely.
Jessi revealing that she doesn’t read out questions she feels might make the artists uncomfortable even if the PD tells her to. she’s just so kind and awesome 😎
Eric should get Mark, Jackson and Bambam (from GOT7) on the podcast since I think a lot of people are curious of their journey being foreign idols in Korea !!!!!!
I'm so excited about Refund Sisters. I don't really know Hwasa, but I've been following Uhm Jung Hwa since the late 90s, Lee Hyori since the mid-2000s, and Jessi since the mid-2010s. This project basically makes my Kpop life complete.
Hwasa is such a talented and genuine person. She is really chill despite the hate and negativity thrown at her by antis. I hope you get to know her during refund sisters 😊😊
im so impressed that she was in tune with her gut feelings at age 13. i'm in my late 20s now and it's taken me this long to listen, actually to even discover my gut feelings and pursue my dream of becoming a MMA fighter - and not listen to what my parents want me to do or what they had planned for me
omgg please get jessi a podcast shes so funny and real. like when she mentioned being on her period i was like YES normalize periods. she’s such an amazing artist yall
Eric and Jessi are my favorite MCs, they feel honest and I love how they always make space for the person they are interviewing to be themselves and feel comfortable there, and still have fun
My favorite part: Jessi: ...they want to see the drama right? Eric: i feel like it was drama -and I think you were a big part of the drama in the scene that- Jessi: oh I STARTED the drama, what you mean? I CREATED the story of the show 😂🤣
@@sanchankim87 I was about to say damn, my mom always freaked out if I wore white outfits while on period and then I saw your comment and went like, yeap. I'm one of those super super rare lucky people xD
I always love how Eric facilitates interviews and encourages guests to tell their stories. I was born and raised in Korea but now I live and work in the US, so conversations with Korean American artists are always interesting!
I'm a pretty loud asian woman too and I remember my friend once told me not to apologise for "taking up space" and not to be afraid to be "heard" and to be "loud" and this is exactly why I admire Jessi. She unapologetically occupies every space that she's in and we need more women like her, especially in K-pop.
Jessi, Jessi, Jessi...such a Queen. I love how comfortable Eric Nam and Jessi can talk to each other - great interview! Just relaxed and honesty - love!
Jessi kept holding herself back of all she wanted to say lol, I hope she can finally have a day to talk about all of it openly, she's so bold and outstanding and the community needs to learn from her
Eric is such a great MC, I'm a fan of jessi but honestly I'm an impatient person so it was a little frustrating to wait for her to finish a story but I love how he didn't talk over her or complete her sentences or anything. I have more respect for him and I also love this show!!
I think she suffered a lot but she still doesn't make a big story out of it which is humble af As if she thinks everything was meant to happen to make her the person she is right know and to have such a mindset is great in itself
I'm the one who fckin approve if Eric became a manager for refund sister. If you know Eric, you will know why. He's smart, he's view for the future is really good and this refund sister will became International.
This is therapeutic!!! Jessi being real and relatable And Eric being the best listener and helping her out when she is distracted a little bit... Therapeutic..
It’s funny how Jessi has a short attention span and goes off tangent on a topic and then forgets what they were talking about. The artists that Eric mentions he listened/watched to back in the day (Shinwa, GOD, & FTTS) were also my early kpop influences.
I loved Jessie even more because of this. I’m sooo glad I’m stanning this queen, because of everything she has been through she deserves a lot and she deserves all the recognition she’s getting now. I am so happy and proud of her. My heart melted when she said “I just want to be the nicest person ever” I so love her. 😍 If I ever get to meet you here in Korea, I would literally cry. Like ugly cry. 😂😅
As a Korean American myself, I *felt* all the things Eric and Jessi talked about. And in case you need to hear it, Eric & Jessi, we get y'all, and we're always rooting for you!!!!
Eric, I hope that this comment gets to you. Please have both Jackson and Jessi in your show. The three of you having a podcast together would be super amazing. The energy, happiness, comfort and wisdom are going to be out of this world. Thank you so much in advance!
Wait she talked about her Euro concert, I remeber watching her & she had a speech about how she felt like no one was listening to her music, but she was great full for her concert & fans. I'm so happy for all her success! & wish her more!
I was born in Korea but came to the US when I was 3 and never went back. The only thing closest to Korea was K-town LA where I grew up. Never been backto korea because I was always scared. Now that Eric nam said that I felt so validated because I didn’t know y. I felt scared to go back because I feel like a foreigner but I look super native. Can’t imagine all the states I will get lol. I live in Colorado now and when I go back to LA to see my family, it’s gets super awkward. I’m super awkward around the Koreans in LA but I cannot imagine being in a land filled with Koreans.

Jessi also mentioned she doesn't want to be labeled as a rapper or whatsoever instead she wants to be called as an artist and it reminds me so much of 🆑 too because she also mentioned in an interview back in 2014 or something. I loved these two! 🍒
JESSI: "you made this interview too long"
me: "this is an interview? all i see is 2 long lost friends hanging out to catch up .o_o."

It feels good to watch korean content without reading any subtitles and completely understanding the conversation. So this is what it feels like WOW!
The satisfaction 💯
Yes. Sometimes it is late and I just want to listen!

If I had another life and chosen to do acting/TV presenter work, I think that could of been me. Interesting to see!

i wouldnt even say that jessi is a typical idol shes literally from the streets of new york
Jessi isn’t an idol tho , she’s just a korean rapper loool
Sad how idols can't be themselves. 😔
It’s interesting to hear about how both struggle with the feeling of belonging due to the back and forth of Korea and USA.
I think all imigrant kids have that me as well my parents are turkish i life in the Netherlands l feel everywhere left out if am their and here
Me too.
I'm Mexican and have been living back and forth between Mexico and the US.
I think it's pretty common to feel like we don't necessarily belong in either place, you kind of get used to it.
@@vianeyestrada9974 yes I feel the same way. I'm American/ Mexican
Nope. That's not it. It's because they are both "minorities" in both countries.

Jessi didn't consider herself a rapper before going on Unpretty Rapstar?!? Wow, her delivery was sooo good! She's still one of my faves on there
Same fr she was killing it
I didn't watch but what I know is she's a rapper came out that show, then I realised she's good at singing and I was confused lol. Then it was explained in this video.
Maybe she's just perfectionist like she said. So she has to work perfectly even for make rap lines.
Because she started as the vocalist of Lucky J... That's why she never considers herself as a rapper..
After all, she debut as singer, not a rapper. So before unpretty rapstar, she dont do rap. But she can do rap.
U can search jessi - unpretty dream
U will love it
I was also surprised because I have heard about Jessi before but I just didn't liked her but when youtube recommended me Unpretty rapstar, yoww I was blown away by her rap!
She's a breath of fresh air for koreans. I can see how genuine she is and very friendly. Omg i'm doing marathon of her videos here in YT, obsessed!

I got a refund at Everland.
