I am also glad that "For your life's an empty hole, til you git it through your skull" was changed to "You can own the Earth and still, All you own is Earth until"
Glad they changed the lyric.....the most profound statement I think in the whole song. "You can own the Earth and still, all you'll own is earth until you can paint with all the colors of the wind."
POCAHONTAS was first proposed around Thanksgiving 1991. At the time, four years was usually the length of time it took to make a 2D animated film, from conception to completion.
Yeah, that was Redfeather. I think John Candy did some voice sessions for him but he was cut real early in production. The LAST thing this movie needed was a comic relief turkey. =)
the original changes in the lyrics.. are interesting "you say i'm an ignorant savage" "for your life's an empty hole, till you get it through your skull, you can paint with all the colors of the wind" lol there's still that turkey thing
That was Redfeather the Wild Turkey. He was originally gonna be Pocahontas’ sidekick but was replaced by Meeko since his voice actor, John Candy sadly passed away
"The Art Of Pocahontas" by Stephen Rebello. Has lots of the art seen in the promo and "storyboard reels". It is out of print but easily available on Amazon used.
Yeah, I think that sometimes, too. Especially when I look at new Disney art (for example on DVD covers or trading cards and so on) and the drawings look more different from the original movie desings than anything you can find as fan art on the internet. -_-
Carla Silva da Costa If you ask me, I think it was a stupid decision to cut Redfeather and decide not to have the animals talk just because the death of one of the actors. They could have easily found another actor for Redfeather. It's like canceling production on Shrek just because Chris Farley (who was supposed to be Shrek's original voice actor) died.
@@thomashuffman3237 Actually, Jeffrey wanted the film to be a little realistic so he didn’t want the animals to talk and yes, candy’s death was another factor
Well, than you have to keep in mind, that storyboards for example are only used to give an idea of the final picture - it's not necessary that the storyboards look like great drawings as long as they convey the atmosphere of the scene. And concept art is used to find a style for the movie, therefore it's clear that the first designs are completely different from the final character designs. But once they found a special style they should be able to keep that design for all upcoming prints.
3:22 Coming Fall 1994 Pocahontas was released on June 23, 1995, The film was supposed to be released in 1994, but Disney postponed the film to a 1995 release.
But wait a minute, Flit the little hummingbird existed in the very beginning Early concept art where he was clearly seen as a turkey named "RedFeather" who spoke and played by an actor "John Candy before he died and the turkey replaced by a raccoon named "Meeko", it can be seen that Flit is talking with Redfeather ! I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that Flit is with Redfeather in this concept art. 2:16
I find it ironic how some artists try to copy the Disney look when the very artists who work there (except perhaps for the animators) may not draw in that style at all.
I love how they cast the voices and create the music before they even finish the final character concepts, thats cool! Lol, at 1:53 Pocahontas looks Black!
Fall 1994...Say What!!!! I thought again, That they released in June 1995. This a bit confusing, First it was tracking every year movies like Aladdin 1992 then they want King of The Jungle (The Lion King) to be released in Fall 1993, but there was a problem then they release in June 1994 and Now Pocahontas was released in 1995 instead 1994. How did that happened at first????

Life's an empty hull,'til you get it through your skull?
Okay, I am so glad they revised THAT particular line.
I am also glad that "For your life's an empty hole, til you git it through your skull" was changed to "You can own the Earth and still, All you own is Earth until"

Yep, it kinda sound a bit eerie to open up your skull..... Yep I couldn't think of it by hearing that early lyric. 😶

I like how they got Judy kuhn on board before it got the greenlight to actually make the movie...the song does sound weird in this key but still good.

Plus, since Pocahontas is (loosely) based on a true American story
Actually, the reason he was cut was due to Candy Dying

Got here looking for Redfeather, the turkey that was ditched out with the death of John Candy. At least I've found some sketches of it.
