Thank you Norway for doing this. I wrote a poem for you: A diversity of plant breeds, Necessitate storing their seeds. Not a vault of human greed, But a safeguard for future need. ^_^
well it totally destroyed the credibility of the tv show "the last ship" with their silly single container of seeds they were trying to save. I was watching thinking ffs, just go to the dam seedbank you fools!
Pretty vulnerable ark if you ask me. This place needs to be guarded like a large vault. The worst danger is one of the vault's backers Monsanto coming back to sabotage the seed vault. The direction they are taking suggests this vault's seed supply are numbered. Pray that won't happen.
+Trace Dominguez How about next time you use your "thank you"-time to actually get your facts straight? Is that really too much to ask from a supposed educational channel?
Did you know that the permafrost also extend into the seafloor in large areas of arctic ocean? This permafrost acts like a membrane that prevents natural gasses escaping the sediments/bedrock beneath. Since last ice age this seabed permafrost has been thawing slowly and gradually releasing huge amounts of natural gasses. Add global climate change into the mix and most people would understand that a rise in sea water temperature will change the rate of thawing of permafrost an exponentially increase the release of dangerous greenhouse gasses like methane. This could be a topic worthwhile exploring in my humble opinion. Big fan of the show btw !
Cristian Leon the food would eventually expire so i am glad it's not a grocery store bunker... It's something to fall upon, to grow crops and see what works.
Awesome Trace! Glad to see how this channel growed and evolved, I want to see more videos in this style! Can you visit some of the amazing experiments done at Anctarctica, as for example IceCube Neutrino Observatory, or the great observatory in Atacama desert?
Good video. I was emotional when the lady talked. I wish the video also talked about the security and design of the building. For example, it is designed to survive a nuclear blast. Science is awesome, and it only takes a very few of us to make a huge difference. :)
Good stuff Trace. I actually google-imaged inside of the seed vault yesterday. I should start doomsday prepping, because this stuff really interests me.
why isnt there also a backup vault like this one but just for human history/knowledge (stored in a 5d glass memory chips), that is really a must as well.
OK, so the seeds are all there, but is the information necessary to utilize then there too? If not, is it as distributed as the provenance of the seeds themselves, or is there another "library" just for the instructions.
Do they do any testing at the facility or is its only purpose to store the seeds? Regardless, it's great to see that there are people out there who realize its necessity, especially with humanity's continuous population growth and changing environments due to human interference.
Amazing! An interesting science project is the Little penguin nature park on Phillip Island. It was the first species to remove humans from its environment so to speak...
Nice production on the video, i really enjoyed, it and got kinda lost in it, the music fit perfect aswell, the woman was very good at explaining aswell
Love your videos Trace! I know you've done a series on upcoming Space Programs but can you cover the Indian Space Program in detail! There are many interesting projects they're working on currently here in ISRO headquarters & HAL Research facility in Bangalore, India. Hope you can get a sneak peek!
I feel like a lot of the recent videos have been getting better. They seem better researched and the commentary is more nuanced and less sensationalised. I also feel like there's more science and less pop psychology, which used to be the main thing on this channel. I appreciate all these changes!
That blowed my mind. That is so important for our history and future Good job to all this altruistic people who work on that amazing project ! We owe them !!
Any big science projects you should go visit? All of them, always fascinating looking and what science is working on and what we are working on for the future.
nice video! although i need one clarification- you kept on saying these seeds were created by nature. but weren't almost all food crops were created by selective breeding?
probably will with how things are and how we always want our food to fit our desires especially if honey bees have a serious population decline since they are in trouble #save the bees
Allow me to be "that guy" :v Compare it with all the gold of the wold. You can build several vaults like that one with that amount of money. Money>Vault :v
is there a a zoological counterpart for this. where genetic material from different animal species are kept? there is a rice research in the Philippines which is like the doomsday vault for rice.
If only Discovery Channel and National Geographic created series like this agian. I'm tired of reality TV still infesting every broadcasting channel.
Add the history channel to that list
+Sam Eppink It's History, not History Channel. HC is dead.
Then how are they funding Vikings?
Internet>Television.... i' ve cut TV out of my life
comming up next on discovery channel! pawn shop LA!
Thank you Norway for doing this. I wrote a poem for you:

nice
thanks =)
awesome
Thank you 😊
YOU my good sir are good at these poems and should keep doing them. And tell me if i got the these wrong and correct me thanks.
.
This was amazing, Trace!
Hi life noggin.
THANK YOU!!!
+Trace Dominguez Hi Trace.
I love your vids LN
do more of this and you'll be a celebrity by tomorrow.
That vault could be the center of a plot for an awesome movie.
Haunted seeds killing scientists....quick, call Dean Koontz
maybe vegan zombies movie ? this vault would be the last stand againts vegan zombie who searched for plants
ever heard the movie "The Colony"
well it totally destroyed the credibility of the tv show "the last ship" with their silly single container of seeds they were trying to save. I was watching thinking ffs, just go to the dam seedbank you fools!
So in some ways...this is the modern Noah's Ark if but with plants
It pretty much is
FlyingWalrus I wouldn't be surprised if that's the next thing on their agenda
i hope this will not turn into a religion discussion like in almost every comment sesson lol
Pretty vulnerable ark if you ask me. This place needs to be guarded like a large vault. The worst danger is one of the vault's backers Monsanto coming back to sabotage the seed vault. The direction they are taking suggests this vault's seed supply are numbered. Pray that won't happen.
No not really
amazing video. great content. thanks for the effort put into producing it.
😍 thank you!

we're all going to die. Its just a matter of when
+serialced Damn. You on you're period?
If an apocalypse happens I know where i'm going.
Good luck getting there.
They just have seeds. Its not like its a big grocery store bunker...
Cristian Leon the food would eventually expire so i am glad it's not a grocery store bunker... It's something to fall upon, to grow crops and see what works.
Forrest Gump Yes that is fact. But it's not like we can't go somewhere else? No one said we were going to grow the food there.
***** again how will you get there?
Idk what it is but her voice is soothing
so true
Ur just horny
GILF
I LOOOVE the documentary style of this video
SEED LADY PLEASE SAVE US ALL
Awesome Trace! Glad to see how this channel growed and evolved, I want to see more videos in this style! Can you visit some of the amazing experiments done at Anctarctica, as for example IceCube Neutrino Observatory, or the great observatory in Atacama desert?
"300 seeds in each, and that's all there is. That's it." *smiles weirdly*
Time for conspiracies.
If an apocalypse ever happened id run around naked screaming "WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB!"
Good video. I was emotional when the lady talked.
I wish the video also talked about the security and design of the building. For example, it is designed to survive a nuclear blast.
Science is awesome, and it only takes a very few of us to make a huge difference. :)
Thanks to the makers of this vault
Love the little intro to another video at the end. The Large Hadron Collider video brought me to this video
Yeah I already got this rare look from veritasium a few years ago
That was 2 months ago
Okay, you're very cool! However other people who don't watch whoever that is might want to see this aswell.
I actually talked to Derek about his video and we both agreed the more coverage of this amazing science experiment, the better!
The background music is very suiting and calm. What is the name of the track?
PLEASE visit the LHC.
WE DID!!! Video coming soon!!!
What is that
+Bruce Bonilla large hadron collider
i thought he did already
+Bruce Bonilla basically a time machine
I used to think that Svalbard was a fictional place for The Golden Compass.
Good stuff Trace. I actually google-imaged inside of the seed vault yesterday.
I should start doomsday prepping, because this stuff really interests me.
This type of video is way better than the usual ones
why isnt there also a backup vault like this one but just for human history/knowledge (stored in a 5d glass memory chips), that is really a must as well.
21EC just download Wikipedia xD

The northest civilization is also at Svalbard the place is called Ny-Ålesund
0:29 it's really cool...literally
Amazing!
An interesting science project is the Little penguin nature park on Phillip Island. It was the first species to remove humans from its environment so to speak...
Nice production on the video, i really enjoyed, it and got kinda lost in it, the music fit perfect aswell, the woman was very good at explaining aswell
Great to see you got to travel there and visit a brilliant idea!
when she says that all there is there is "seeds...thats it. just seeds" she sounds very shady to me
For real huh
also, she shakes her head...very very suspicious
Slim shady?
billyblackattacks that's exactly what i was thinking.
Like there's something very seedy going on underneath?
Just wondering if the embryo in the seed alive? If it is, is it slowing consuming the seed itself, hence the shelve life?
Once the polar ice melts, they have to rebuild the vault somewhere else. Rip.
I love it.Wish there was more ideas made into reality like this
Unbelievable! Trace, this is why you're my favourite host!
Wow, It's great someone has the foresight to build such a project. Good to see someplace besides inside the D-News Studio.
Saw Svalbard while checking for Scandinavian trip. Seems interesting, maybe someday I'll go there.
God this was like the good old days of the discovery channel....
Like when the Travel Channel used to be about travel.
Even now we need those seeds let alone the future as they feed humanity with GMF.
Love your videos Trace! I know you've done a series on upcoming Space Programs but can you cover the Indian Space Program in detail! There are many interesting projects they're working on currently here in ISRO headquarters & HAL Research facility in Bangalore, India. Hope you can get a sneak peek!
seeds from all parts of the world next to each other without bs just sittin' there, unlike us humans.
Excellent video work, Keep up amazing content, also Trace is your best commentator guy
I feel like a lot of the recent videos have been getting better. They seem better researched and the commentary is more nuanced and less sensationalised. I also feel like there's more science and less pop psychology, which used to be the main thing on this channel. I appreciate all these changes!

Good job to all this altruistic people who work on that amazing project ! We owe them !!
Thank you seeker that was an awesome video please keep up the good work!
Very informative, great job Trace and DNEWS!
As usual an excellent,informative video.Thanks Trace👏
Thanx Seeker keep doing such amazing videos on Earth's major science projects 😊😊😊.
Any big science projects you should go visit? All of them, always fascinating looking and what science is working on and what we are working on for the future.
Welcome to Vault 22.
If vault tech is involved, it's the night if the killer tomatoes all over again
Great video! Enjoyed it especially since I am a Botanist. You could do a feature on the Mars Society.
Nibiru is coming, get ready you will need that vault!
Darko Stojkovic Nibiru is a myth
Most amazing video from this publisher.
Trace! You have the best job! Lucky Guy. Get to travel to amazing places and interview our heroes...
This was just awesome! It is good to keep a "backup" of nature for the future we don't know.
awesome video
this is beautiful, thanks you to whoever came up with this idea :)
Wonderful.
Trace, did they have heirlooms too?
Or only heirlooms
I think it would be really interesting to see you guys do a video on the fusion rector project in Europe!
The sad thing about an apocalypse is that the more you prepare for one. The less likely you are to try and stop it happening in the first place.
Makes me think of "Fist of the North Star". Would love a remake.
Beautiful
Great video! Enjoyed it especially since I am a Botanist. You could do a feature on the Mars Society' Desert Research Station in Utah
Please visit the fusion reactor in the Max Planck Institute for Playma Physics in Germany it would be awesome
200k varieties of rice? Shit, here I am thinking I am sophisticated with my arborio..
The seeds should be planted on a garden to experiment on hybrid plants.
Great job! All the way out there though for a 5 minute video? Still appreciated👌
Best video you've done. Keep doing this kind of videos
why was this video so satisfying
I enjoyed it especially since I am a botanist. You could do a feature on The Mars society.
Me: *eats peanuts and walnuts I found*
Svalbard vault guard: *visible anger*
When you take collecting to the next level.
nice video! although i need one clarification- you kept on saying these seeds were created by nature. but weren't almost all food crops were created by selective breeding?
Protecting our planet... One seed at a time!
Cannabis seeds arrive: "we're out of space!"
Awesome video. How about CERN?
Did you visit the main land of Norway also? (except from the inside of airports). curious to know
Hey, VaultTec calling!!
You're so lucky Trace!!! I wish I could go.
Visit the big hadron colider, it'd be awesome!
Anyone else saw the DPR of Korea Box
1:58
Also Trace is my fav reporter now thanks to this
Wow you are actually there. Impressive!
"ThTs all there is. Nothing else." That sounded so shady XD
Imagine surviving the apocalypse and you finally find the bunker SOMEHOW but you can't get in because no one has the key. 😂😂😂
If you found this interesting I strongly recommend you check out the short manga Hotel by Boichi.
This reminded me of Futurama when they go get some pine seeds lol 😂😂😂
The idea that we could need that place one day is sad.
can you guys go take a look at pando? I don't know if it is cool enough but there is something to tell about.
a treasure trove beyond compare! I hope we never have to use it.
probably will with how things are and how we always want our food to fit our desires especially if honey bees have a serious population decline since they are in trouble #save
the bees
Allow me to be "that guy" :v
Compare it with all the gold of the wold. You can build several vaults like that one with that amount of money. Money>Vault :v
too late, it's already been used by Syria
is there a a zoological counterpart for this. where genetic material from different animal species are kept?
there is a rice research in the Philippines which is like the doomsday vault for rice.
It doesn’t really seem that
cold over there considering
it’s 800 miles from the North Pole.
I've heard of it before, from a documentary, then from Veritasium, then from you.
thankyou for this piece of information
Did anyone catch North Korea's seed stash at 1:57 ? I found that super interesting.
Simply beautiful
Yay seed bank👍
Imagine all the weed in there...
Arnav Popat there's no drugs
slicedpineapple199 there actually is marijuana in there.
Arnav Popat lmao finna go to Svalbard to smoke a blunt
They have to put some OG Kush seeds in there
Please visit the place where cryonics are kept and preserved in the future :0
Love this vid. Keep em coming T!
