Excitement Grows As Large Hadron Collider Hints At New Particle
www.theguardian.com/science/2...
"When hundreds of physicists gathered this week in La Thuile, an old mining town in the heart of the Italian alps, one short and simple question hung in the cool, crisp air: is it real? The source of their fascination, and no little excitement, was light. Not the sunlight that made the snow glint on the mountains in the Aosta valley, but light inside the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) across the border near Geneva. The machine had detected more photons than expected as it smashed particles beneath the quiet Swiss countryside. The brief flashes of light might be the first glimpse of the next big discovery."

One thing I don't understand about the LHC. It sits on the boarder of Switzerland and France, and Switzerland is a neutral country... so what happens to the positively charged protons when they cross into Switzerland. Do they become neutrons?

Did you know what the Physicist was talking about? You nodded so much like how I nodded during physics class when my teacher tried to teach me about general relativity.

Pretty sure Trace knew that and more, otherwise he wouldn't be standing there, interviewing scientists. There is much more that happens off-camera, but the language and explanation we were presented is "dumbed" down for the viewers (not being offensive, just highlighting the fact that not everyone is a scientist :P )
You know we were joking, right? I would be smiling as kid with pool full of ice cream standing on his place :D

Trace, great work. Not many going to appreciate it, but a really nice insight and a very understandable explanation of each part. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Trace

You can get a small one.
From observing the footage of the particles colliding, there is a few milliseconds for the collision to cool down before another collision happens. These particles move at 99.997% the speed of light, and is still currently being worked on my CERN to get a lot faster. As stated here, the particles also tend to miss each other, making the collisions even more inconsistent. So by theory, if we were to achieve 99.998% of the speed of light or higher, while also maintaining the particles at a specific point in which the chances of missing each other is only slim, or increasing the quantities of the particles to have a higher collision consistency, it may be possible to generate dark matter. This happens because the increased consistency and speed, ultimately disabling the few milliseconds of no contact, will increase the number of collisions in a short amount of time that the odds of creating dark matter increases by 5% the initial percentage. so in short monke explanation, more particle, more fast, make more collision big chance black hole material.

I cringe hard lol
Nine months ago, the Particle Accelerator went online exactly as planned. For 45 minutes, I had achieved my life's dream. And then - then there was an anomaly. The electron volts became immeasurable, the ring under us popped. Energy from that detonation was thrown into the sky and that, in turn, seeded a storm cloud...
Whoa…
it’s from the flash lol

Do the detectors eventually get damaged by all the collision particles? If so, what usually gets damaged first or the most?
This is probably the most well made D-News video I've seen.

I'm impressed.
This is the first seeker video I've seen that didn't make the people that wrote it look like elementary school dropouts.
Of course they didn't really talk and instead let the scientists do damn near all the talking.
You should keep this format for ALL the videos, or at least run what you're going to say by real scientists first and don't say anything they tell you is wrong.

Suggestion: Next video should be on how they capture collision data
There is a decent video on the CERN website that addresses that.
they collect the data after the collision through a bunch of cams nd sift 5hrough it....truth be told...the explosions are in fact rips into other dimensions, and u can see otherworldly beings....the logo is made up of 3 6's ...so 666 , nd the mascot is 1 of the 3 hindu gods , (god of CREATION) is Brahma, ( god of PRESERVATION) is Vishnu and Sheva..is the god of Destruction...the name of the location(CERN) is a shortened version of a celtic diety known as CERNNUNOS ( the horned god of the underworld).... it goes deep....not to mention that its descriptive location whereabouts are located in the Bible in the Book of Revelation... it says and the 5th angel sounded his trumpet , and i saw a star fall from heaven nd with him he had the key to the bottomless pit.... and i saw a great smoke like that of a great furnace , and out of the smoke were locusts with the faces of men nd hair unto like unto women and that their wings sounded like raging chariots going into battle, and they had stings in there tails as unto scorpions and was given unto them to not touch or harm anything green and to torture man 5 months , in that time men shall seek death but death shall flee from them.
And they had a King over them, Known as the King of the bottomless pit known in HEBREW as Abaddon, translated in Greek hes known as the Destroyer, (Appolyon)... not to mention that the actual site cern sits on is the ancient roman temple known as Appolliacum, dedicated to Appollo the gatekeeper to the underworld or basically the same entity as the hindu mascot Shiva...
so think about the Bible , if not convinced ask ur self if its fake why is it written at least 1950yrs b4 even built , and down 2 the location nd name also come to think about it, every time they smash particles together they create a dimensional glimpse into another world nd may hold the tool to produce a BLACKHOLE. not to mention the dark matter/antimatter accumulated which is scientifically proven to attract the paranormal, ghosts, nd demons....Nd I would call a BLACKHOLE nd a BOTTOMLESS PIT 1 nd the same...wouldnt you??....i pray that I have helped at least 1 person by passing this knowledge....BTW its Facts!

Simple, informative and beautiful. Great video
Damn I read it wrong, I thought it said large HARDON and thought it was a follow up to brokeback mountain
4:49 Yep, definitely undestood what she said
Kota Dagnino she is talking about the curve that is formed to find out the actual momentum of the particles
Could you use sound or light waves to try control the way the particles are moving throughout the Hadron collider? Or combination or heat sound and light
No, because sound is too slow. Light waves, maybe, but I doubt it. Photons have no mass, and don't really "collide" with things. They would be more likely to knock the protons off their course.
For the record, though, the reason that these protons miss so often isn't because of technical error. It's just impossible to estimate where the nucleus of an atom is at any given moment.
Who came here because Athena said to check it out? I have already watched it so it was good to watch again. I don't know how I missed Trace's star struck face as he listened to Dr Bose explain how compact, the _Compact Muon Solenoid_ isn't, at 3:38 on.
Finally regaining some hope on Internet with pages like Seeker... great job Guys!!!
Does the lhc affect all the matter on earth or just the matter in the collisions?
In essence does it affect matter itself if not how is it isolated from nature?

MAD SCIENTISTO
Good work you did compiling. Thanks.
Thanks a lot for this video!!!
It really inspired me to learn more.
so let me a dress what everyone is gonna ask can we become the flash
Only if all the energy is released via an explosion will the meta humans come into existence.
So we need Dr Harrison Wells who is actually Eobard who is the reverse flash to come over and create the explosion that creates the meta humans including the Flash. Or we just need to find the Dr Wells of this Earth.
Actually, the explosion caused lots of people to acquire different abilities. We might not ALL become fast.
And what if the fastest man happens not to be human but a cat or dog instead. Lol
Victoria Rasmussen Well it's not like they would start fighting crime or become criminals, so I don't think we would know. Mutated insects would be more of a concern to me than mammals.
Hi Trace,Thanks for explaining what the collider is for!:)

Le plus fort dans tout ça, c'est que sur une seule toute petite planète comme la Terre, on arrive à expliquer et même à reproduire tout ce qui se passe dans le reste de cet immense Univers.
The best story is, on such a small planet like Earth we are able to explain and even reproduce what happens in the rest of this huge Universe.

thanks for this nice video, help me to understand about accelerator...
this is so unbelievably beyond my comprehension it’s actually hilarious
"more collisions, more better"
yah I caught that lol
And the real reason for the colliding of protons at high speeds is what exactly......?
to figure out how atoms work, help solve quantum theory, and find out where everything gets its mass from and how gravity actually works.
Hey Seeker! When they make particles collide, is the energy released (spark) big enough to see?
I a class 12th student currently studying Charges in Magnetic field in India ... and by curiocity I came to look it b'cos our teacher was talking about it AND NOW I AM SHOCKED THAT HOW DEVELOPED WE HUMANS ARE !!!
Aw.. at 3:44 Trace smiled like he found the girl of his dreams. :D But more research is needed
I am not sure they are actually breaking apart the protons to discover what hey are made of. Instead, the collider imp+arts energy to the particles which results in the spontaneous and random creation of completely new particles, that were not previously constituents of the colliding matter, according to the E=mc2 law (i.e., some of the energy transforms into matter). These particles are incredibly short-lived so they are not detected directly, but inferred from their decay products.
We are trying to understand what the particles are made of,what other option do we have to find whats inside without opening it.If something new is coming out at least we will know that by combining these particles we can make a proton. Just another thought, i am not any scientist😃
4:38 I've mastered that nod. It's the "I don't know what you're talking about, but I'll pretend to follow along cuz it sounds pretty impressive" nod

Anyhow it's amazing 🤩
LHC and the Svalbard vault? You got a very interesting job!
How did they separate the protons from there hydrogen atoms to get the 100 billion protons?
Hydrogen gas is ionised using a strong electric field, and the resulting protons are accelerated and focused then injected into a linear accelerator.
@@thevectmarketing5784 So the strong electric field kind of takes the protons from the hydrogen gas after ionizing it?

so I have a question. are the quadurpole magnets also responsible for assisting/directing the positive and negative reactions when the protons hit each other ????
This is really interesting! Never thought by watching the Flash I would be really interested in this! But I have to ask, what would really happen if a particle accelerator blew up?
why would it blow up in the first place?^^
Everyone in its radius would be quantumly vaporized and maybe it could make a black hole or break space
Is Dr. Tulika Bose related Satyendra Nath Bose by any chance??
Bose is a common surname in "West Bengal" state of India. People with this surname can be found in other regions as well. But they are definitely of Bengali ethnicity and follower of Hinduism. Also you can expect Bengali to be their mother tongue. Other than that one can only speculate.
Most likely related to someone called Harrison wells.
