This is basically the same with Wagner.... like... EPIC operas and some amazing work.... but someone with some of the most horrific antisemitic views.... like he was seriously bad.
We absolutely need the ability to separate the art from the artist. But equally, in todays world, art is more readily monetised, so you are impliciting still paying the artist for the rights to use the work so there is more of a direct link between 'the art' and 'the artist'.
Should we stop watching films produced by Harvey Weinstein? But what about all the work others put into the same works who more than likely never met him or even knew he was one of the producers until the credits rolled....
I think the Wagner dichotomy is easier to square off as a) he's long dead, and b) he's not earning money from it - by virtue of being dead.

Good for you, but you really don’t seem to have a perspective on the topic worth sharing. Every time something like this happens, the non fans always love to say “Don’t listen I never have” like okay, keep going on with your life this isn’t your conversation to be a part of. I love Michael Jackson’s music, grew up with it and lived through him being legally exonerated. Him being retroactively canceled “for good” I suppose leaves a lot of questions, and his impact on the industry and my life are significant. I came up with a personal line of not supporting living canceled artists who still make money off their work. Me to listening to MJ if anything just hurts his surviving kids who haven’t done anything wrong to my knowledge and at worst could be potential victims. And overall the music industry is so poorly held together streams are worthless compared to tours and merchandise. So I wouldn’t judge peoples listening history, but I would judge someone who say pulled up to some Ibiza Diddy show.

I think with all these things it's pretty easy to decide. If they did whatever they did to someone you care about personally, would you still be listening to their music?
I think quite often, the answer is, no, you wouldn't.
If you carry on enjoying their content, you're not seperating the art from the artist, you 're just deciding you don't really care too much about what they did.

I'm not sure the details of what he did, but I don't like financially supporting someone who hurts others.
However, if you're someone who had already purchased a thing, that would be a grey area
Listening wouldn't give him more money.
Plus, if everyone throws out theirs, they may be worth more in the future because so few survived. Lots to consider
I never listened to this person so it's not a personal dilemma for me

We find out something incredibly heinous, they have no consequences.
Ingnition is still popular. I'm forced to think about R Kelley when people play it.
I wish I just didn't know about what he did. Just let him do that stuff in private. It seems like I'm the only one that cares anyways.
