I'm obsessed with thrift shopping, I'm overcoming drug addiction. So thrifting more and I'm sure it isnt a problem yet.. I have anxiety and it's always something I'm focused on. I'm recovered from bulimia too. Always need some distraction..
If you need a distraction, like I do, maybe you can find something to focus on that involves you making or simply not buying something. I’m currently struggling with both depression and anxiety too - and slight ED tendencies when they hit hard. Keeping ourselves occupied in a healthy way can be difficult but it sounds to me like you’re trying hard. I wish you the best.
Im addicted to spending money on things I don't need mainly beauty products. I hate to think about how much money I've wasted over 20 years or so. Just turned 51 and I decided enough was enough. I'm going to pay off all the debt my addiction has got me. I'm going to use stuff up I have and live a simple life and not spend unless it's living expenses. I woke up and realised what an idiot I've been. But now I have a plan I'm positive and excited about the journey to be debt free, rid of crap and eventually live the minimalist life I so want.
Society lends itself to addiction, obsession because it keeps us from working inwardly. We must lean towards healthy addiction and obession with prayer to our Creator not the creation.
There are some inaccuracies in this talk. For one, obsessions typically do not turn into addictions, they are the manifestation of an addiction. Addiction is the coping mechanism. The "thing" that we use to cope with our emotions, pain, etc. Addictions are usually the manifestation of what we use to fill an emotional void or a way to cope with trauma.
I am passionate about this subject. Please read the book Molecule of More (I just discovered it the other day). You can also check out my vid on dopamine and addction highlighting excerpts from that book. Have a great day everyone!
Bwhahaha! I count stuff too! Particularly the length of time it takes to fill something (cup, pitcher, etc.) at the sink, stairs I climb, so on. There's no real reason. But I know 10 seconds of water will take exactly 5 minutes to heat in my kettle at home. It's not a diagnosable disorder because it doesn't disrupt your regular function in society.
Thank you 🙏 for talking openly about your OCD Joshua. I really appreciate it as a fellow sufferer. x

Sadly but addictions are becoming more and more common in American households

A serious subject, a major issue. The delicate balance of life, being lived in a way that helps and does not harm.
