Nice overview, thanks. Surprisingly camper companies have removed almost all storage from these rigs. My 8” 2001 weighs just 1400 lbs and has under bed storage, wardrobe, pantry, kitchen cabinets, and drawers but still has all the same accessories as yours. Holds true, they don’t make them like they used to. Thanks again for the quality video

Useful hint: I'm old, raising and lowering the top was a bit of an issue with me. On my first trip someone showed me how to use the roof fan as an assist. WOW! What a difference - its now EASY - especially when there's a brisk wind.

Brad, that is an awesome rig. I love the low profile and all of the amenities it offers. I begin my van life in September and will begin the first leg from Virginia to San Diego. My daughter is flying from SD to help me drive and spend some time together as we don't see each other for months at a time. After 63 years of backpacking I'm leaving it to join the van lifers. I'm housesitting for my brother up at Lake Arrowhead in October so you might see me cruising around on his Custom Road Glide. My sister is allowing me to set up base at her house in Sacramento giving me access to the Northwest. I'm excited about seeing some of the bases and radar sites I was stationed on many years ago; however, I believe most of them are closed now. Anyway, I've always loved your channel and you've inspired me to get out and see places I would normally not visit. I hope to meet you and Marco some day on the road. Take care and be safe.

I personally enjoyed more of your old jeep videos. Maybe one day you will go back to a jeep. Keep up the overlanding either way!

We had that model for about 9 months a few years back. Loved the low profile and it looks cool on the truck. We had ours on a built tundra...Great camper for the desert when the wind is below 10 kts. Unfortunately it’s not that great in places where the wind blows and it rains. We live in the northwest and battled condensation and nearly lost the roof to several windy days along front range in Montana..
    Thanks for the video..

Glad you found a way to get your wife out into the backcountry with you more often Brad! Been working on the same thing with my wife. We were fly camping and our super Cub for a few years, but her dietary issues made it impossible, moved to the truck camper, and a nice overland trailer I built up from a Smitty built. Started traveling the country in a super c this summer, but I'm hanging on to the small units once we do what we want to do with the super c

I was going to buy the same setmup. However the max payload of the Power Wagon will be exceded ( The Power Wagon has the lowest payload of all Ram 2500's) once you are loaded with gas, water, batterys, propane, gear and people. Furthermore Those 2500 Rams have a rear coil spring that is mounted too far inboard on the axle and it makes the truck sway at highway speeds. I was told this by nurmorus people in the "Ram World" Other then that I love the look of the set up!! And I love your Channel/Content!

Same problem I had to with the PW. It is still the BEST HD truck for off road use, however it has some serious limitations that come with its awesome features. Each user has different needs. I ended up going with F-250 7.3 with 4.30 and rear locker. I have wide connected rear leaf springs, 3,000 payload, plenty of deep gears for bigger tires/towing/off road. I can install the ford OEM winch later. All I’ll miss is front locker (which I can do after market), the awesome PW skid plates, and the awesome PW suspension articulation (however I NEED stiffer suspension for payload/towing). The Ford just works better for my needs.

I love the FWC Hawk and plan to order one in a few years, after I purchase my F-150. I like the shell of the FWC, but the utility systems (furnace, water heater, electrical, etc) are old school and I want a more modern all electric setup. I'm considering just ordering a Hawk shell model and having it upfitted by a custom van builder in New Jersey called Humble Road. George, the guy who owns it is an amazing craftsman and innovator and I am confident he'd build an amazing truck camper. I reached out and asked if he'd do it and, although he's never built out a truck camper before, he is definitely up for it.
Also, that hardware they used to secure the camper to the bed appears to be rather weak. I'm sure it's probably fine, but I expected to see beefier hardware than that. I'll have to remember to ask about that when the time comes for me.

He’s gone the other side. No more rock crawling for him now. 😁 I’ve explored a couple
of routes to build an adventure vehicle. First was getting a RAM PW but having the camper on the aluminum flatbed. I also looked at van options. Test drove the MB 4x4 Sprinter and also the RAM 3500 Promaster. Couldn’t decide on which flat form so last summer, I rented a full size FORD Tribute camper van and set out for an adventure in the Canadian Rockies- it was a great experience however as you can imagine, the van have limited capabilities in terms of driving on difficult terrain- you’ll end end at campsites and boondocking could be a challenge too. Cost also comes into play for both options (forget about where to park both behemoth when you’re back in the city). So 2
months ago I ordered a ‘21 4R TRD Pro (can’t wait to get deliver so I can start my overland build) as I was inspired by some of TrailRecon’s video. AND NOW THIS? I’ve always suspected this built when he picked up the RAM PW and with the suspension upgrades recently. He’s gone other side! 🤣✌️🍁

A loaded Hawk camper is closer to $35k. Look it up. Not many “deals” on new vehicles right now either. If you are staying in hotels, eating your meals out, you’re not really doing it. The way he has his set up with the 37” tires he’s probably getting 12 mpg on a good day with an approximately 2000# wet load. I’ve been wheeling and adventuring since the mid 80’s and something that big isn’t “go anywhere “ especially if you don’t want to beat it up. It is very capable though. I guess if you think this outfit is “a phenomenal deal” then that old saying about a fool and his money applies.
Most of the people who buy these expensive, fancy rigs never truly wheel them. But they sure look good sitting in the driveway. Gravel roads, forest service roads and some light trails are about it for most people and a Subaru will work for this. Everyone thinks they are an expert when they haven’t really thought out what they are commenting on. Have a good day.

    • @toddwillard8927
      @toddwillard8927 3 года назад +1

Agreed. The power wagon doesn’t have much of a payload. A standard 4-door 1 ton short box might be a better platform. The Rubicon running gear is nice but with something this large you won’t be doing much rock crawling. Plus you could get the diesel option if you went standard. I’ve been many places with 4X4’s that don’t have rubicon running gear and had no problem. I think maybe 5% of the people will actually utilize the power wagons capabilities but it sure makes for a nice posing vehicle. But if you have this type of disposable income where bouncing a $120 k vehicle off trees/ rocks then knock yourself out.

You really shouldn't put anything behind the fridge at all... It is very important that the air flows across the back of the fridge as smooth as possible. Even if it's something small that don't really block the air flow, it can cause the air to just swirl and that air swirling will stop the up draft air flow. (I've been an RV tech for 22 years)

It's a water heater, not a hot water heater , lol. If it were a hot water heater they would call it the redundant heater ,lol. That water fill valve overhead ,lol. Somebody going to get wet. Would be better if shore power was placed under the lower section just below the protected area, and above your tail light.. Would be easier to access, and no cords hanging near the heat exhaust. Love the power steps, can you place one on the bumper ? At 18:29 in the video you show storage areas. Can those be fitted with pull out spice rack type units ?That way you access the area without dumping all the contents every time. Nice walk through. Thank you.

What you call a "Navy Shower", I call "a quick rinse around the key areas".
I'm assuming it's the same thing.
I'm always intrigued by these, they look like a really good compromise for long-distance travel if you don't want to tent, don't want to drive a van (although your truck is probably about the size of a European van? I have no idea) and certainly don't want to pull a caravan or trailer.
The ones that go on European-sized pick up trucks always look a little pokey though, especially if they fit dual-cabs.

IM HAPPY FOR YOUR NEW CAMPER, BUT BEING ITS A 4X4 WITH THE SLEEPER CAMPER ON THE BACK A FEW THINGS TO HELP OUT IN THE ROCKN ROLL OF THE OFFROAD ROADS? 1, YOU SHOULD HAVE SHOCK SUPPORTS ON THE SIDE TO TOP THE CAMPER FROM SIDING SIDE TO SIDE, 2, ALSO FILL IN THE GAPS IN BETWEEN THE FRONT TO BACK , BETWEEN THE CAMPER AND SIDE OF THE BED. , I UNDERSTAND THE CAMPER IN BOLTED DOWN TO THE BED, BUT THATS NOT ENOUGH TO HOLD THE CAMPER DOWN OR ROCKING N ROLLING SIDE TO SIDE? ALSO IN THE FUTURE PURCHASE LIFTING JACKS FOR THE 4 CORNERS AND REMEMBER TO REMOVE THE EXTENDED LEGS SO YOU DONT DAMAGE THE LEGS OFFROAD. Looks like a great set-up, should work well for long distance traveling. Where do you mount your spare tire now that the camper is in place?

It's a nice camper the only thing I don't like, is it don't look like it fits the truck bed. I'm sure its because truck beds aren't long as they should be but it does look like its not put on all the way

Funny how the evolution always goes in the more comfortable direction. Love the shower. I don't care if it takes a little effort to set up. This rig is about comfort. Right?

Most people regret buying the shower option, and only use it once. I got the outdoor shower, and added a privacy curtain from Zero Declination. Sets up in a second, and never gets water inside the camper.

In deed how the evolution always goes more comfortable, couple weeks back my wife and I did a one nighter at this BLM campsite which had an area for RV's. The owner came over to check out my jeep/gladiator setup with my RTT. He was a jeep guy and started telling me he started off camping out of his jeep. Eventually graduating into similar camper on this video. After couple years they upgraded again and into a RV. Wonder if that's the next upgrade for Brad 😃

Great demonstration of the camper, however why would you heat hot water? It’s a “water heater” not a “hot water heater”. Keep up the good work.

Some brands do not offer a toilet. A toilet is a must for some (me).

Congrats! We love ours so far. They are well constructed and tough too. It will be another few days before the video comes out on our channel, but we bashed ours up pretty good in Moab last weekend. All things considered given what I did to it, it held up very well and is fully repairable which is a comfort. My brother has a project M on order for his Power Wagon but I keep telling him he might want to give the slide in some more thought as well but I'm sure either option will be great in the end.

Great setup! Could you show the storage of the unit when the top is in the lowered position; like when packed up and heading out on an adventure? Thank you.

Mopeka makes a propane level sensor that works over Bluetooth, it can be a little finicky but it works pretty well. In the App it only has 20 pounds and larger tank settings but there is also an enter your own size option so I think it would work for you.

Hey man, couldn't help but notice the dometic vent on the outside, when it starts blowing cold the shutting off, the sail switch is stuck, it's a common fault on those.

Where do you put the deer at the end of a hunting trip?
    I like the setup.
I might do the same, and then tow a utility trailer with a side by side. Could hold extra coolers and extra fuel on the trailer as well.
