  • Hellenika is a total war overhaul mod for Rome 2 Wrath of Sparta that combines brilliant new gameplay mechanics like social and manpower systems or a gods and omens system, with stunning historically authentic visuals.
    The mod has been in development since Wrath of Sparta was released back in 2014 and focuses quite heavily on the historical authenticity of the time-period. And it’s still being updated today as well which just goes to show how much work has gone into making this mod one of the greats.
    I have a long list of mods to cover but Hellenika has been at the top of the list for a long while now, so it is finally, with great pleasure that I can spotlight this mod today and show you everything that makes it so impressive.
    I hope you enjoyed this video guys and found it helpful. If you did give the video a like and absolutely drop your thoughts and any questions at all!

    The longer siege system when they control settlements in the rest of the province is a cool idea but doesn't really work too often since nobody sieges the enemy out. You either wait for the sally of the not so smart AI the very next turn or you wait 2-3 turns for siege equipment. Dont remember how long it takes in vanilla but if it is more than 6 turns I usually never wait.

    • @manuel4964
      @manuel4964 3 года назад +4

      Sieges would have to be way harder so that you cant just attack the enemy walls with a few ladders and win. Ranged units should get a big range advantage on top of the walls, they should not be easily taken down by artillery, siege equipment should take many turns to build and defenders on the walls should get melee bonuses as well. Maybe siege equipment that takes many turns to build and also in low quantities would also be a great addition to DeI. That way walled settlements finally get as strong as they should be.

    • @luelee6168
      @luelee6168 3 года назад +1

      The issue with that is the walls carry no bonuses and they wear down way too easily. I know it's meant for the flow of the game but a challenging battle is often more satisfying and fun than an easy win.

    • @jordanford8071
      @jordanford8071 3 года назад +3

      I've always wanted seige equipment such as trebuchets and onagers to be constructed from the seige screen instead of units in your army. Or at least only usable in field battles if in encamped stance. Make it a multi turn build and only damages walls once built (in Attila the walls can collapse after only a few turns without seige equipment).

      The overarm stance makes absolutely no historical sense. Even a basic test with a broom or long stick you can do in your own home reveals that the overarm stance has no strength, no reach, and massively tires you out compared to underarm stance. It's never mentioned in any literary sources from the era and the artwork on vases and so on that depicts it almost certainly depicts them throwing javelins, not thrusting spears. The only real exception to this is that men in ranks behind the first might have thrust overarm just so they could go over the shoulders of the men in front and annoy the enemy.

    As a member of the original HELLENIKA team (former Greeks at War mod), I should give some more info on the mod:
    The HELLENIKA mod that works with patch 17 is different than the one showcased here - and in my opinion, it was a lot better and more immersive. The current latest version is only good for patch utilization and some reskin or for people that don't wish to revert the game.
    In this version, the original beautiful unit icons have been replaced (yet you show them on some occasions in this video...), and the unique tech tree has been replaced with another - which is also unique but inferior and in some occasions meaningless.
    The original team found difficulty in updating the mod as CA did changes that cased problems in various areas, so it was taken on by others (one of which was an original member like me) but turned the mod to another direction. One must play both versions to see what I mean.
    There is also another version by a Chinese guy (HELLENIKA PELOPONNESIAN WAR) which still needs work but it kept the original stuff of patch 17 version intact. Added some of his of course.
    On one hand, it's good that HELLENIKA rose up to current game state, on the other hand, I don't like the end result as I deem it lost a lot of its character in the process...
    Better than DEI... is a really bold statement. The Makedonian Wars idea is quite brilliant in my book. Hellenika Is definitely a different (and multiple times better) approach than CA ever did on the Peloponesian War. It doesn't matter what you think is better. What matters is that you got great choices to make in order to play. But if you must have a decision, it's HELLENIKA patch 17 for me all the way if I want to see Greeks at War...

      The chinese guy Luskainn crushed a large number of bugs from the original mod and the changes he's made are sensible like mercenaries are not recruited from one pool now but are found in their historical home towns (and neighbouring provinces), unique buildings for capitals, better animations for hoplites etc he's done a fantastic job keeping the mod alive.
