Hi, I'm the lead campaign developer for Shieldwall. Just wanted to clarify one thing from the video: the mod works fully at ultra unit sizes - the population numbers will match up exactly with the unit numbers when you play on medium, but if you play on other unit sizes everything will still work and have the exact same balance as on medium. Playing on medium makes things look nicer because you'll pay exactly 80 population to recruit a unit of exactly 80 men, but that unit will always cost 80 population even if you change the unit sizes so that there are 160 men in the unit. That way you can change unit sizes without us having to rebalance the pop system for each possibility. Hope that makes sense. Medium sizes were chosen because they reflect (quite accurately) proper army sizes for the time period, which is a rare opportunity when making a total war game. For example, our Norman invasion is 7000 to 8000 soldiers, which is a common historical estimate for the size of William's army. Nice to see the mod being covered, if anyone else has any questions I'll try my best to respond :)
Awesome clarification that will make me install the mod again as couldn’t play on medium unit sizes ...now I got that I works like the remastered Rome pop sys👍👍👍
Thrones of Britannia has a lot of mod potential that I haven’t seen anyone take advantage of. Imagine if someone made a mod for it based on the Scottish War of independence, or the English Civil War, or the War of the Roses. The map and the mechanics could be used so well for that and this is the first time I see anyone make a big mod for the game
That’s what I would say. Wars of the roses. Make the larger houses with there own sigils and the smaller factions as houses and Vassell states with there own sigils and armour etc suited to that age. Make Scotland the same. The main house like Bruce with its own Vassel states. This allows you to take a rival smaller house and challenge Lancaster and York. Would be brilliant
its cause almost nobody plays it, can speak for myself and i enjoy it alot. But if you compare it to any other total war its barely anyone plays Thrones :

I can't understand why people say that TOB is a shitty game because of its lack of diversity between factions but everyone enjoys Shogun 2 in which armies are strictly the same
alot of the arguments that channels like andy's take or terminator make are based on sheer nonsense , in terms of accuracy yes the ashigaru increasingly dominated warfare in japan and shogun 2 somewhat reflects that which is why i dont have a problem with it , but to then complain about ToB lacking action diversity (it actually has faction diversity) is what i have a problem with , shieldwalls and lots of levies like the saxon fyrd played an important role on the battlefield and were the dominant strategy in western europe and the island of britain (ireland was slightly different with its kerns), now you could say that even tho there are 20 varities of axemen in ToB they all play the same , well duh there is only so many ways in which an axeman can be used and only so many strategies/tactics that make sense
@@TheTerminatorGaming It’s great. All that you mentioned, and I love the 12 turns per year. Winter is only a minor annoyance at 4 turns per year. I actually love thrones of Britannia especially compared to any fantasy or troy/three kingdoms. It was like a modern and new advanced total war covering a certain region in depth, with a beautiful artstyle, and similar to control on attila. I love thrones and i feel like it has/had alot of potential and is not a direction i mind total war going in (if only they actually would)

But here we have Shieldwall and I guess it's time to visit the British Isles again. Thanks everyone, who worked on the mod, and thank you, Terminator, for making this video!
I love playing Rose of the republic on small unit size. It really turns everything into a deadly gang fight and then when you do mobilize and have 870 guys vs 700 it really does feel more epic. For ROTR and TOB small unit is historically accurate especially for dark age tactics they were essentially bloody gang fights and lots of vendettas.
Finally got around to try it but even on very hard, the game seemed to have become a million times easier, did anyone have the same experience? Im not sure if i just got really ´lucky´ or if the mod just makes the game super easy to steamroll. Ive just finished taking the main isle and i have still not met a full stack that wasnt at half strength from mustering.
Thrones of Britannia is a good total war and one of the last good ones.let alone best sieges in all the games the game bring the feel of the early medieval period as close as you can plus this and age of charlemagne are most close to medieval 3 total war we will ever get
The one big problem I have with this mod is it takes FOREVER to get to the point where you're able to actually start attacking settlements and the economy runs soooo slooowly. Also, the AI is not aggressive at all. I've tried playing in 2 different campaigns and got bored after playing 15-17 turns without a single threat from anyone. I mainly spent my time trying to build things to levy the noble units as commanded. IDK if I'm using too many mods now (6 mods including Enhanced income, all 3 Variation packs,) or have them loaded wrong? I may give it another go when someone comes up with a mod that gives the campaign a kick in the ass.
I will never understand why people don't like this game even vanilla. I have replayed it a boatload of times and with just a few unit reskins and adding in unplayable factions, this game is so fuckin' good basically vanilla.
I've seen this mod before, and I have to try it. But as I said before, for me ToB of worth playing even without this mod (maybe a few minor mods). Not sure about all of the new/changed mechanics, the tech try for example. But the rest is mostly interesting.
Great overview! Hoping to pick up Thrones of Britannia in the next sale and was wondering; Should I just skip the vanilla campaign and hop straight onto Shieldwall or would I appreciate Shieldwall more after finishing a regular campaign?

Medieval era is by far my favorite one of all, and Thrones of Britannia is cheaper than some Warhammer's DLCs, but still it's not enough for me to buy it. Also I've already tried this game before and it felt like a paid update of Attila, or a "scam") This mod seems to be adding more complexity and it's really making me consider whether to give the game a new shot or not.
It’s a great mod love the mechanics and turns per year. unfortunately the combat is so fast it totally ruins the battles imo. Have tried using combat speed mods but none seem to work properly with the mod and slow combat down enough.
Hi All, As a life long Total war player I'm thrilled to see that this edition has been modded and made much more playable. As I am Irish myself I love the idea of this time period and the factions This video prompted me to buy the game from steam but for the life of me I can't figure out how to download the Mod. Any hints tips guys?
Hi there, I have been watching quite a few of your mod videos and the content you are making is great! However, there is one thing your videos really lack. Higher resolution! (clips) Keep it up!
Hey just in case you didn't see it the mods developer confirmed that you can, in fact, use larger unit sizes without messing up the population mechanic. Units cost the same amount of pops on every setting, Medium is just most accurate.
About time, I always thought this game had such potential, just needed a good modders love. It sounds like we've finally gotten it. I'm already deep in a crusader blade mod, fighting the reconquestia as the Crown of Aragon, and kicking ass getting my mediteranian empire going, so it will be hard to pull me from that, ck3 is such an amazing game, but this looks ridicuously good, do I even still have thrones installed...
My man William Lawerence! Haven’t seen you comment in a while mate hope all is well! And yes TOB actually has a few mods worth checking out including Shieldwall. I’ll be doing more spotlights for the game soon :)
Especially the population mechanic feels like that would need to be the base game, not a mod. The whole three strata system formed the basis of the migratory period all the way up to the beginning urbanisation of much later centuries in the renaissance so the omission of this distinct system is really sad.
Excellent. Thanks for flagging this up. I was looking at it a while back but thought it had been abandoned. Edit: The mod I mean. We all know CA pretty much abandoned the game on day 1 😂
In my opinion Thrones is the most beautifull total war that CA produced for em no doubts. But it didnt sell well so CA got lazy and went with Warhammer and pump it with DLC and because it sells then they wont improve on old ideas, cough cough sea battles.
One problem I had with ToB was that the AI only created 1 army at a time. When I was at war with West Seaxe for example they only sent 1 army. When I defeated that one they requrited another one. I had 0 challange at all! Is that something that this mod fixes? (I played on Very Hard) Anyone else feels this is a problem?
Never......West Seaxe would always hit us with a minimum of two full armies attacking separate locations, or at times 3 main stacks with a 4th smaller stack running around to just attack farms/mines/etc. The only low points in combat my friends and I have experienced in ToB was when we killed of the enemy king, his heirs, and runner up generals. Then we would have a few turns of peace as the other factions were trying to recover from having all their nobility wiped out.
I just hope the actual developers of the games try and make the game more like some of these mods from the start and don’t just get lazy expecting mod makers to keep their games alive
"It suffered from a complete lack of replayability, with virtually every faction a copy paste of another, and let's be honest no real depth or meaning." "Needs more unit variety, faction diversity, and more gameplay mechanics that make it engaging enough to feel invested in a campaign." You just described shogun 2.
I completely agree but I don't know what it is about Shogun 2... I CAN replay it over and over and have done so for around 1000h. Yet in thrones, I only have 30h...
Yeah, I don't think those are the main issues. Honestly I think the biggest one is that the battles feel so boring, its just put all your troops in a shield wall and win. It's hard to get invested in a game when I know that one battlefield mechanic that pretty much every unit has means I can win any battle.
@@kapitankapital6580 The mechanic is good for me. And i say that because (and correct if i am wrong) battles where fought that way in that era in England, norse warriors used it and Anglo-Saxons adopted it. The problem is that if you want to make that mechanic be balanced for both the player and the AI they should have done 2 things: 1) Make the AI use the shield wall more efficiently and 2) Make the AI much better at flanking. I also want to mention that they made such great siege maps in that game and they wasted it. Its only worth when you being attacked and you have smaller numbers than the AI. Otherwise if you attack the AI just sits on the first level of walls and behind the gate you attack.
@@kapitankapital6580 I see what you mean but that's how battles were fought. If they were going to be even more true to history, it would be even more boring. You would just mass Spearman and shield wall. That's pretty much it. I guess I don't find it boring because when I play these games i try to implement real life battle tactics and army compositions as closely as I can that's half the fun for me
yoo shaklaf is here, nice video again, focusing on thrones of britannia, we need more fsctions and also guys sub and join the terminator discord for more information

Does it fix the bug that made this unplayable for me...? Changing governor? made the game crash.. cant remember the name as I played once and after 5 crashes in a row, I uninstalled it
@@TheTerminatorGaming I can't remember the name of the position but it's essentially the government tab, obviously there was no government back then, but it was a well known bug on release with no fix to date, I searched the hell out of it and even posted on threads about it and all I got was toxic replies from people saying to just not change it, when I don't see why I should ignore an important part because of a crash the devs ignored
@@TheTerminatorGaming amazing, I may just test it myself as it seems like a bug that doesn't effect everyone, but those who it does effect, there is no fix, just work arounds, which if you forget to do, your entire game crashes, I'll post a link if youtube let's me to a steam thread about it, otherwise Google crash, change governor thrones of britannia and it should show up. Thanks for testing though!!
my main greivance with Thrones was that other factions were not aggressive, and the AI sucked at making big stacks, much less ones with decent units. Is the AI less of a pushover when you tried the mod?
I have never had that issue with base Thrones of Britannia when playing on Hard or above (as everyone should do with Total War titles. Normal is far too easy). I've found the AI to always be aggressive and actually extremely diverse with its unit selections and army composition. In my co-op campaigns with friends, we are always fighting off multiple AI armies that have us outnumbered 2-to-1 at minimum for each field engagement. AI sieges have always been 3-to-1 at minimum for us when defending. Needless to say, the AI military campaigns have never been a problem, only a true challenge when fighting on multiple fronts. And that makes pulling off victories with our smaller armies so much more exhilarating and you see how epic it is that some of your starting units have literally lived thru 20+ battles and you aren't even to mid-game yet!
@@paulliston8561 my experience has mainly consisted of trying out Hard campaigns with Wessex, in which i find that I'm the only faction with more than one full stack. I spend 10-15 turns just rolling over every undefended settlement and painting the south of England before growing bored. The AI of the nearby major factions doesn't put much in my way to stop me
I ask myself why there is not a real king arthur mod out there... it makes me so sad. :( just imagine that you play a "fantasy" legend of the king with his knights... defend the lands against the nordmans after the romans and try to safe all the culture and knowlegde... man :(

Medieval era is by far my favorite one of all, and Thrones of Britannia is cheaper than some Warhammer's DLCs, but still it's not enough for me to buy it. Also I've already tried this game before and it felt like a paid update of Attila, or a "scam")
This mod seems to be adding more complexity and it's really making me consider whether to give the game a new shot or not.
Fuck8ng Amazing Video i cant Wait to Try this
do you use any visual mod since it looks a lot darker then normall thrones
do you use the bloody aftermath mod?
I personally don't mate no
It’s a great mod love the mechanics and turns per year. unfortunately the combat is so fast it totally ruins the battles imo. Have tried using combat speed mods but none seem to work properly with the mod and slow combat down enough.
Hi All,
As a life long Total war player I'm thrilled to see that this edition has been modded and made much more playable. As I am Irish myself I love the idea of this time period and the factions
This video prompted me to buy the game from steam but for the life of me I can't figure out how to download the Mod.
Any hints tips guys?
I saw a another comment say they stopped development of the mod
I have it on STEAM.
How to find and recruit mercenaries?
I know it failed but man I enjoyed playing that game, battles overall were very enjoyable.
Hey Terminator, what´s the name of the song that plays throughout the video?
Its a mix of 3 songs actually :) I’ll add them in the video description when I get a chance tomorrow ❤️
@@TheTerminatorGaming Sweet, thank you in advance!
Hi there, I have been watching quite a few of your mod videos and the content you are making is great! However, there is one thing your videos really lack. Higher resolution! (clips) Keep it up!
Haha I’ll work on it mate :) thank you!
Holy sh*t! This mod looks AWESOME.
Cool, I might finally have a reason to get Thrones of Britannia now. Are there any plans for the mod to be updated to work with large unit sizes?
It does actually work fine with large unit sizes thats my bad. Modders later confirmed in another comment here
@@TheTerminatorGaming Cool, next chance I get I'll get Thrones.
Great video and great mod, but I don't really understand why they balance it for medium unit size, that really throws me off
Hmm yep it is a strange one. I would’ve had larger unit sizes if possible, but ah well its still worth it :)
@@TheTerminatorGaming it is beceuse its acurate to the real viking age battles where battles where around 1500 men
Thats what I suspected of course but I guess giving people the option to play with larger unit sizes would have been a good thing overall.
@@TheTerminatorGaming yeah true
I'm new to adding mods from the workshop on Steam I had this mod on about a year ago do I need to update it or anything or does it do it itself
Does it all by itself mate :)
Thank you
Is this mod Coop compatible?
I'm one of the ones who liked this game. I hated the loyalty crap and governor spam but I always thought it was a great looking game graphics wise.
I liked it at first as well, and you're absolutely right about the graphics :)
Need to try this
Oddly this in some ways reminds me of Hellenika too.
Thanks just picked up Thrones of Britannia for 12 bucks on Steam.
Can you still get steam trophies while playing this mod?
Excellent. Thanks for flagging this up. I was looking at it a while back but thought it had been abandoned.
Edit: The mod I mean. We all know CA pretty much abandoned the game on day 1 😂
❤️❤️
In my opinion Thrones is the most beautifull total war that CA produced for em no doubts. But it didnt sell well so CA got lazy and went with Warhammer and pump it with DLC and because it sells then they wont improve on old ideas, cough cough sea battles.
nice info - thx 👍
No problem 👍
IS this better than Radious?
One problem I had with ToB was that the AI only created 1 army at a time. When I was at war with West Seaxe for example they only sent 1 army. When I defeated that one they requrited another one. I had 0 challange at all! Is that something that this mod fixes? (I played on Very Hard)
Anyone else feels this is a problem?
Never......West Seaxe would always hit us with a minimum of two full armies attacking separate locations, or at times 3 main stacks with a 4th smaller stack running around to just attack farms/mines/etc. The only low points in combat my friends and I have experienced in ToB was when we killed of the enemy king, his heirs, and runner up generals. Then we would have a few turns of peace as the other factions were trying to recover from having all their nobility wiped out.
Does CA even know those mods exist?
They should be hiring those guys, that's madness.
Is this mod run in MacBook Air M1 ?
Not sure to be honest Bruno, what are your specs?
you guys just made this game playable, cheers!!!
Man a mod that covers shieldwalls, variety and units?
Heck yeah!
i tried to use this mod and my game just crashes lol
Is there any mods that changes the unit picture ? Cause I personally dont like them that much.
I just hope the actual developers of the games try and make the game more like some of these mods from the start and don’t just get lazy expecting mod makers to keep their games alive
mod has stopped development and i cant download from anywhere sadly.
"It suffered from a complete lack of replayability, with virtually every faction a copy paste of another, and let's be honest no real depth or meaning."
"Needs more unit variety, faction diversity, and more gameplay mechanics that make it engaging enough to feel invested in a campaign."
You just described shogun 2.
Yet people praise shogun and throw Britannia in a trashcan.
I guess I don't find it boring because when I play these games i try to implement real life battle tactics and army compositions as closely as I can that's half the fun for me
yoo shaklaf is here, nice video again, focusing on thrones of britannia, we need more fsctions and also
guys sub and join the terminator discord for more information
Haha thanks bud!
@@TheTerminatorGaming np👍
Does it improve ai
Interesting mod, makes me almost consider buying Thrones of Britannia (which is something I never thought I would say) just to try it with this mod. Always love your Mod Spotlights!
Thank you :) and on a good sale I’d recommend it!
Shieldwall
SHIELDWALL!!
Does it fix the bug that made this unplayable for me...? Changing governor? made the game crash.. cant remember the name as I played once and after 5 crashes in a row, I uninstalled it
Not sure I know that bug personally but it does make a lot of bug fixes so give it a try!
I just tested it and I can indeed change my governors without a crash 🙏👍
@@TheTerminatorGaming amazing, I may just test it myself as it seems like a bug that doesn't effect everyone, but those who it does effect, there is no fix, just work arounds, which if you forget to do, your entire game crashes, I'll post a link if youtube let's me to a steam thread about it, otherwise Google crash, change governor thrones of britannia and it should show up.
Thanks for testing though!!
Ah alright no worries hope it works out!
All Total War games (except Rome 1, Medieval 1/2, and Empire) are unplayable without mods.
great mod! thanks for the recomendation.
You’re welcome! :)
It’s ashame since I have heard this game has the best siege Ai.
You should try it mate. I can't recommend it enough!
I've heard about the mod but never gave it a try. Sounds good, though.
You should!
nice vid
i Wish CA reworked the hole game for the redemption
my main greivance with Thrones was that other factions were not aggressive, and the AI sucked at making big stacks, much less ones with decent units. Is the AI less of a pushover when you tried the mod?
I’ve yet to get deeper into my current playthrough but so far Yes!
The AI of the nearby major factions doesn't put much in my way to stop me
6:02 Burger King
I ask myself why there is not a real king arthur mod out there... it makes me so sad. :( just imagine that you play a "fantasy" legend of the king with his knights... defend the lands against the nordmans after the romans and try to safe all the culture and knowlegde... man :(
I'd love that!
Awesome mod, but I probably won't play it again until the modders have it tweaked in a bit more. Some things about it are just outta wack it seems still.
