Lonnie. I'm so sorry you had this experience. We have just found that a batch of M50's that went to Harbor Freight that had button issues. You seem to have found 2 of them. I'm so sorry. We are in the middle of recalling the Harbor Freight product and sending new inventory. In about 3 weeks new inventory should be at the stores. We apologize for the inconvenience and remain committed to providing you with the best stud finders in the market.
@@karengarcia1256 thanks I stepped up to the next one. M150 it works but it's not good for me. I need to find rafters threw the shingles, I guess this shows nails also. The lights are all over the place. But inside on walls it works good.
My first thought is that you have heave texture and running he stud finder up and down the wall, to verify that it is in fact a stud. Feel free to call us! 208-918-2405.
welp, if possible apply "16 inch on center" so see if there's a stud 16 inches on either side of where you want to hang something. my brand new 150 also starts freaking out on certain walls of the house (thin walls, not straight walls, etc). but it doesn't miss a stud, just gives weird false positives.
Hi Nacho. This is very frustrating. I'm sorry you had this experience. The job of the stud finder is to find any change in density. I would recommend always running the unit up and down the wall to verify that the reading is a stud rather than just an anomaly in the wall. You are always welcome to call our customer service line and speak with someone directly. We want you to have the best stud finder experience.
His button was easy to press . Not mine.
Me either! I’m so frustrated! I have been fighting with it for hours. I hate buying something and a simple on switch doesn’t work! Ugh!
I've gotten 2 of these, both have failed. Harbor freight is 35 miles drive one way.

Same issue here. Just bought the last M50 from Harbor Freight yesterday. I should read this before.
Why does mine show this exact concept but once I drill a nail in there it hits no stud

Only works with alkaline batteries
DO NOT BUY THIS DEVICE, shop for better
This thing is garbage. It failed …
Did you put in alkaline batteries? The units don't accept rechargeable batteries.
