All cars are piling up in dealer lots. Why do fascists like to single out EVs?
EV's are not going to work at the moment....moment meaning in the next 40 to 50 years. The infrastructure can't handle it, the metals to make the batteries are not available now and unless there's a huge miracle in battery development and better choice in materials, it's a bust. People right now can't afford them to start with, the charging infrastructure barely exists, you can't insure them cheaply and they're a fire hazard that repair shops don't want. Toyota's "We told you so" is spot on.... and the people are saying the same thing....we told you so.
I give it 5 years before EVs are the most common car in the road. The build up that’s happening now just means very cheap EVs are about to drop. Hybrid and hydrogen will not compete with the price of what’s about to come. Just wait and see.

The smartest vehicle to drive is one you dont have to owe a bank for!!! Rocking a 2004 subaru outback. Paid $2,500 cash for it 4 years ago. Came with rebuilt engine, counting tires and maintenance ive put in around $3,000. $5,500 in 4 years for a car that is crazy reliable. Been investing the money i dont give to a car loan. Have enough saved that when this car does die ill find another close to its age. Cash only.
Good plan. I bought my mom's 2004 Jeep Liberty for $1,000. I put in 1,800 due to neglected maintenance (tires and brakes, plugs and new radiator). Still no payments. It's a keeper.

My biggest problem with EVs is they used MORE oil than ECEs, it's just all at the front; and there are 10s of thousands in what is essentially SLAVERY mining the cobalt necessary to produce the batteries for this new fad. Sadly, we no longer in a Free and Capitalist society, with the government trying to control everything - farmers, drivers, carmakers, medical fields, etc. And, as Reagan said years ago: "Government IS THE PROBLEM."

To properly charge in a timely way in an all EV world.. a charging station would need To be as big as a Walmart parking lot.. who is going to tolerate long line ups for 6 40 min chargers?

Charge at home? look at all the apartments being built because the family house is getting very expensive. So do they have a garage, no, just a parking spot. Also I'd have to upgrade to 200 amp at my house. I saw a video of a guy traveling in the LA part of California and nearly being stranded some times because their was long lines at the large charging stations. Then he fines a open spot and it told him it was out of order. So he limped to another charger with the heater off and was lucky he got a 50 percent charge.
Oops I forgot.. Just like everyone parks their car at home with s full tank of gas.. there is currently not nearly enough quality infrastructure to support charging. And consider the filth of copper production.. not to mention the lack of sufficient generating power without adding any extra load.. as well that power will be expensive.. cheap now but where will the gas and road taxes be charged? Anyone?
People have been asking this basic question about EV cars for a couple of decades now: What do you use to generate the electricity to charge the EV? Right now, and most likely for the next 20 years, there is no reliable, renewable energy source for the EV batteries.

Coal: more or less pure carbon, exhaust is nearly all CO2. Natural gas: CH4 , twice as many water molecules as CO2 molecules in the exhaust.

The batteries suck vs the price. Anyone in their right mind or at least budget friendly didn't fall for the EV scam.. Improve the batteries or increase the warranty of them. Even Hybrids are iffy with replacement costs being 5k for the battery.
There is no way to get around the physics of the batteries and the use of oil. NO WAY.

It always seems that videos and articles like this are extremely US centric, although even in the US more EVs have been sold in 2024 that over the equivalent period in 2023. Hardly a slump. Meanwhile the rest of the world particularly China and to a lesser extent Europe power on. I think the US is an outlier and mostly because Ford and GM are incompetent. When foreign cheap EVs start entering the US Ford and GM will probably go the way of Kodak.
The irony of China is that it is running the largest programme of coal power station construction the world has ever seen. China is constructing more coal power stations each month than exist in the whole of Europe. Coal burning world wide is now over 130% higher today globally, than it was during Coal’s supposed ‘hey-day’ in the early1960’s. All China is doing is relocating the point of pollution. However it’s not just China, India and Pakistan are also committed to a massive construction programme of coal fired stations because the sun-continent has vast reserves of cheap, easily accessible coal. Driving an EV in the hope of making a difference to Global pollution is akin to walking out into a monsoon rainstorm with a hanky on your head in the hope it will keep you dry.

I know carbon fanatics are just like every other fanatics and can’t have a normal thought. I know the restrictions placed on the farmers and trucking industry Diesel engines is not sustainable. When you have to fight for your food in the dark because we don’t have electricity let me know how it’s working.
Not only Toyota. FORD has the 2nd most Hybrid options. They were talking political shit on the front end, while developing Hybrids in the back end.

I am always convinced Toyota decision to not immediately adopted EV was right and smart as the EV technology is way too immature and cost way too unacceptable economically, stemmed from my frugal lifestyle that I am still driving my 2002 Toyota Camry lol. I had a heated debate with a friend of mine, German engineer graduate that looked down on me as being a local graduate in economic when I said that if I had given money to buy a new car I would prefer to buy Toyota gasoline or hybrid powered car rather than a more expensive Tesla arguing that it economically didn't make sense, he repeatedly pounding on me with argument of technological advancement that now is the time and I keep saying no. Haha... that was just a year ago. Now I can say... I told you...

Got a 2015 back in 2020. GEN1 VOLT is like a tank. Well made, very stable and still get close to 45 miles in summer.

For most people hybrids always made more sense. They would allow people to go to work and shop on electric power without having massive earth destroying batteries, but be able to tke occasional excursions with gas. If our government really gave a damn about CO2 emissions, we would have restrictions about electric and gas cars with motors capabel of speeds over 100mph.
In Australia that instituted a tax that would require plug in hybrids to pay taxes for gas and miles driven, double tax, good times.
I was recently shopping for a new car. I don't give a rat's ass about emissions. My parameters were less than 25k dollars, low total cost of ownership. I don't own a garage, and seen the long lines at Tesla chargers and I don't own a garage, so EV's were right out. My house does not have a garage and I don't have the ability for in-house charging. EV's have their place, but not for me. I bought a 2023 Nissan for less than $20k and get 30 mpg. If that car is going to destroy the world, then...

EV's are MUCH cheaper to operate, and with a few medium sized solar panels for the typical passenger EV, which consumes about 6kWh per day, you can even power them for free once the initial investment is paid off.

@@timothykeith1367 99% of EV's still have their original batteries. The vast majority of battery failures are from water intrusion. Mostly from flooding. But damaged cases are also a culprit.
And in performance optimized batteries needing replacement, such as the Tesla Model S, earlier chemistries tended to fail, but those were are optimized for hyper car performance. I believe they use newer chemistries now.
There's Tesla Model 3's with over 400,000 miles on it, and very little battery degradation...
There are companies popping up that do service the individual cells. Such as Gurber motors. 2nd hand is still in tight supply, but that'll change with time.
Ever have to replace an ICE in an modern vehicle? I have. Destroyed from a bad injector, and it ain't cheap... $13,000 plus laybour for a new one.
And some cars (especially German ones) can be much more. Saw one that cost $30k USD...

Note that most people don't sit and wait in their EV's while they charge. Most people plug in at home, and they charge while parked. Even apartments and condos are getting plugs retrofitted near parking sports, and new builds have code requirements for EV power.
In the EU/UK, they are adding charge ports to light poles.
And for the times when super charging is needed, most people could use a short break after 6 or 7h of driving. I know I get tensed up from driving that long... 15-30 mins at a supercharger isn't a big deal. Especially as most of that time can be used up with a bathroom break, and a coffee or something. New batteries are hitting the market that can charge in 12 mins.
Still using coal to make electricity for ev to recharge. Now that is a stupid idea.

It was all a political stunt. The Detroit 3 sell lots of government fleet vehicles, so publicly they played in this shit show, but really concentrated on ICE and Hybrids.
I sincerely don't understand why so many fans of EVs hate the idea of switching to hybrids first. Hybrids can use both - electric and gasoline infrastructures. They can reduce emissions, since their batteries are small, which means way less pollution from manufacturing, compared to EVs, and their electric only range is still good enough for commutes from home to office.
Hybrids are too complex, and add 2 drive systems to a vehicle. Especially parallel hybrids. Serial hybrids are not as bad, as they are mostly a battery EV, with a built in separate generator, as a range extender.
EV's have gotten good enough that their's no need for most people to require a hybrid. 500 mile range in an EV is good enough for almost all users. Even taxis are using them, and just supercharging periodically. There's a relatively new Tesla with over 420,000 miles on it, with barely any battery degradation.
In heavy duty vehicles, hybrids still make sense, but will become less of an issue once batteries in that equipment go from their current 1MWh, to several MWh capacity.
@@jeffl4810 And still it's not enough, unless you can reduce the charging times and the price on that resource to power it. And no EV's do not have enough life span, not on charge/wait for charge/cost of charge. The more you use it the more it degrades and the more it costs to renew/replace. One outlier, doesn't even come close to call it a success. And yes the reports show that ONE against the rest was the outlier, Tesla, yet even in Tesla's own reports, those cars with over 150k miles and no problems are rare.

You've obviously never driven in a decent BEV.
You normally just plug them in a couple times a week, to top up the battery, usually while you sleep. Very minimal effort. And a lot more convenient then going to a gas station.
As for supercharging, most newer vehicles top up in the 15-30 min range. The newest batteries can do it in 12 mins.
The last time I timed myself getting gas for my truck took over 15 mins by the time I paid and left.
There's lots of Tesla's with high mileage, with original batteries, etc. 420,000 ish miles seems to be the record. Especially with the newer battery chemistries, and BMS systems. Batteries barely degrade anymore. The first few years, a few % is lost, then after that, a small fraction of a % per year. Newer chemistries such as NMC 532 are considered a 100 year, 4 million mile battery...
Very few ICE last past 150,000-200,000 miles. And the ones that do, usually have extensive maintenance and part replacement. Transmissions don't tend to last much longer then that either.
Many decent EV's might need a fluid change or two, a couple sets of windshield wipers, and maybe a set of brakes at that point. Tire life depends on how hard you drive, which, granted with the low center of gravity, and high HP acceleration capabilities of an EV, can wear faster. Same with high performance ICE that's driven hard.
The only exceptions are older Model S's, which offer hyper car performance, and do stress the batteries, and there were issues with the motor rotor spinning out the slats from the insane centrifugal and magnetic forces it produces. Now fixed with a carbon fiber rotor wrap to keep them in place. However, the costs to deal with those issues (which seem to be resolved on later models) is still less than the cost of an oil change on a super / hyper car... And then there's the savings of not burning any gas...

My original statement of 15-30 mins is correct. You seem to be modifying what I said.
The last 10% or so to fully charge can take additional time, but not many charge to 100% on a routine basis.
The One factory LFP batteries are designed to charge in 12 minutes if cooling plates are used on the top and bottom of the blade style cells.
These will be hitting mass production soon, as the factory gets fully commissioned.
Also, in the USA, out of the 4,200 TWh of electricity consumed per year, around 1,100 TWh is used in the extraction, transport, storage, refinement, distribution, and dispensing of fuel. It's about 2kWh per L. Switching over to EV's would only consume 600 TWh...
So the grid has ample capacity... And is always in constant upgrade mode. It has always expanded since it existed.
Yes, there will be areas with distribution issues, like there always has been, but grid scale storage will also help fix that with buffering
And, unlike with FF, you can easily make your own electricity. Multiple ways.
With solar, 3-4 medium panels will make enough electricity in most parts of the world per day to cover the 6kWh needed by the average passager EV.

Let me repeat what all electrical engineers know.The electrical grid cannot handle the increase demand that EVs will need. Also we have no charging stations.
I'm an EV, and although there will be some localized issues, the vast majority of the grid can support EV's. And the EV transition will take decades to fully complete.
What will be an issue is everyone trying to charge at once. But grid scale batteries are fixing this. Also reconductoring transmission lines to double their capacity is a low cost and effective solution.
Also, as petroleum processing, from the extraction, storage, transport, refinement, distribution, and dispensing use about 2kWh per liter of fuel, adding up to about 1,100 TWh in the USA, out of the US's annual electrical generation of 4,200 TWh, that savings will actually be used for EV's. With a net savings of 500 TWh.
Yes, EV's a use less electricity then FF processing....
Charging stations are popping up everywhere, and will keep popping up fast as everyone switches to EV's

That's NOT an EV problem, but EV's can make it worse. V2G tech can actually use EV batteries to stabilize the grid. Not sure if much has been done with it however.
Grid storage batteries are a major thing now, and making a huge difference, by averaging out grid loading.
Also, most EV's are charged at night, where excess generation capacity is available.
Japanese have strange tendencies not to abandon older technologies even after all others have switched.
They still use personal seals, fax machines, music CDs, etc.

The research on liquid ammonia is so promising
that is bad cause it will raise the cost of farming, given ammonia is fertiliser.
If ammonia becomes popular as fuel, you're gona b paying more for food.
But that amonia as fuel will work very well for those who plan to starve the world anyway.

@JaskanFactor you are proof that our education system is a failure . Ammonia can be catalyzed from nitrogen and hydrogen, two of the most abundant elements in the universe. Also, this process aides in the availability of liquid oxygen for research and industry. Why nobody taught you about the Haber Bosch process i don't know. Also just as general aside we use ethanol in fuel today mostly extracted from corn and corn is not prohibitively expensive its very affordable.

Ideally, you could live in a place where you can get solar panels to generate free electricity. Then use that to power your home, your water, replace gas appliances with electrical, and then to charge your car. Unfortunately, the tech is not that mature that everyone can do it. It's possible, but needs a lot of investment and the return is not there.
It's actually not that hard.
And solar panels have never been cheaper. Can be bought at consumer prices at $0.2-0.5 per watt. Wholesale is even cheaper...

You do realize Toyota is struggling right! In terms of reliability Ev’s are very reliable. Keep in mind America is only about 25% of the car market. Finally, I live in Japan and drive a jeep. But back stateside I only drive electric. I love my ID 4. Japan is very behind. If Toyota does not change with the times they will bankrupt the country.
Tesla's market cap will be a magnitude larger than Toyota's in a decade. Toyota is making a long term strategic error, as is the other OEMs. Renewable energy with mega batteries is the cheapest energy , and relying on fossel fuels( or hydrogen) is a fool's errand.

@@timothykeith1367 No.I'm just an investor. Sodium ion batteries wil soon have the same power density of lithium ion , and be 30%-40% cheaper and work well in cold temps. The battery is about 30%-40% the cost of an EV. I think there wil be a vehicle with a 700km range ,can charge 80% in 15 min and cost < $25,000 USD within 2 yrs. The real ICE "killer" though will be vision based Robo Taxis . This will transform car ownership to Transportation as a Service , This will disrupt all things "ICE", gas stations, parking, insurance , dealerships,repair/ service /tires shops, etc. It will also generate new opportunities for the Robo Taxis companies with in vehicle advertising, conferencing calls ( Star Link internet connectivity), marketable real time vision imagery of location/time AI analysis etc.

For toyota, making EV is much easier than making fu.king complicated hybrid engine.
I drive too much to own an EV. This so called fast charging, only charges up to 80%, not a full charge.
I commute around 100 miles a day to and from work.
EV'S are not worth the cost or inconvenience.
I commute 140 miles per day and I got a 2023 BOLT EUV as Diesel fuel was killing me. Had a TDI and it was $125/week in fuel. I still prefer Diesel, but I charge at work and when off, I charge it at a Walmart 5 mins away as they're free plugs. If it wasn't for the $$$ advantage, I'd still have my TDI.
That's not an issue for newer EV's.
The closer you come to using an EV's max range, the better the value proposition is. 100 miles a day, huh? For an EV to drive that far will take about 25 to 30kWh. Look up what that amount of electricity would cost you during the dead of night. From my local utility, that would be about a buck fifty. Now, what's the MPG of your ride? Divide 100 by that, then multiply by the price you pay for each gallon of gas. Subtract the dollar fifty. That gives you the EV's savings per day. After awhile, they might add up to the point that you'd be willing to put up with the EVs hugely more pleasant driving experience and lack of carcinogenic fumes.
When Tesla first came out, I was stunned by the technology. I could not afford one, so I purchased Toyota hybrid vehicles. I considered a plug-in hybrid, but then Toyota embraced DEI, so I am hanging on to my hybrids. Sadly I recently learned that Toyota engineered a plastic part into the electric water pump of my hybrids leading them to fail much earlier than they should. Now I must replace this pump and the radiator in the cooling system at substantial expense before they prematurely destroy the engines on my aging vehicles. It is very difficult for me to have faith in any manufacturer or dealer anymore. Woke racist and sexist BS combined with engineered obsolescence make buying any vehicle a painful and costly experience.

China is also building coal powered plants at a mind boggling rate in order to power their coal powered EVs.
Resale values of EVs are low. Insurance costs are high. Acquisition costs tend to be high. Range anxiety is real. I'll likely get a hybrid for my next car.

I bought a 2015 VOLT back in 2020. No complaints!!!! Doesn't give problems and I get the benefits of EV driving without having to worry about longer trips.

Nobody buys a Tesla that doesn't already own one. They don't keep them very long, then get another very similar Tesla.

Every other car in LA seems to be EV. And friends that have one all love it. There are tons of charging stations here though, that could be why.

EV for me, right from the start made no sense. Instead I have purchased and stashed a couple of older 3Lt Turbo Diesels. An A6 S Line Audi Quattro and a Landrover Discovery that will see me to the end of my life and won't depreciate. In fact, I have already been offered more money than I paid for the vehicles. When was the last time you saw any government make the right decision that did not benefit them or their financial backers?

The video is misleading. Toyota knows EV is a big market. They just don't go all in like other companies have. They always use these first models to prototype things so they can perfect the revenue model. Then start to actually produce them when they think they can make a good return. Tesla for example, has only really kept existing because of hype and a bad view on the future. It's absolutely critical for an investor to get into an industry when it's young so they can get the best benefit. And everyone knows electric vehicles are coming. But when? Seems like everyone decided Tesla would be that company to get the biggest piece and has valued that company at future value instead of what it really is.
Ev's are here to stay. Toyota is planning future EV's, just like everyone else. Ev sales are still up year over year but the growth will never be 50 or 80 percent again as the adoption curve progresses.

why paying more for old tech. Corrola was $12k. Now doubling the price. EVs 👍 there are so many choices and price range. No more oil change and other problems smog fees blah blah. Move on and bye bye Toyota. Hybrid was helpful for transitioning to pure EV. But Toyota made wrong decision on Hydrogen car. Because does not have resources to dominate battery technology. Toyota is betting on USA to prevent EVs from China or Chinese tech EVs built outside China from entering the market. But Japan is slowly losing market share of other markets and the trend is accelerating.

Other countries are pushing their engineers to move forward for innovation and new technology without trivial constraints.
In certain regions like Australia, The Subcontinent, Russia, Africa and southeast asia, Toyota is probably correct and so in terms of future growth in the medium term they may be ok. But they are completely wrong in terms of the EU/UK and totally wrong for the longer term. They are going to become irrelevant fairly soon and ts not just the issue with BEV's, Toyota have an innovation and cost of production problem. 2022 vs 2021 they lost 25% of their sales in the EU Year on Year. When the 22/23 figures come out I suspect it will be the same again. Toyota are not even looking good in These alternate markets. Take Australia for example. they are the biggest ( over 20% market share) but are losing market share to Ford ( Mainly FORD ranger AND american pickups are taking Hilux and Landcruiser sales) and Tesla taking Hybrid sales.

EVs are a technology from the early 1900's. They are NOT cutting edge and will NEVER be adopted as the vehicle of choice.
