⚠ NOT SPOILERS, READ TO AVOID MISSING IMPORTANT DETAILS IN FUTURE EPISODES ⚠ Episodes 6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, and 49 have scenes after the credits; they are sometimes just fun little vignettes, but often they include significant details that will be relevant later on, and that might make some future events confusing if you haven't watched them; it's therefore highly recommended to watch them. If you don't have this list at hand, just look at how much time is left in the video when you get to the credits; if it's more than usual, there's almost certainly a post-credits scene. Furthermore, the credits in episodes 45, 54, 63, and 64 are different than usual, and worth watching (especially the ones in 64, which everyone will probably be expecting a reaction to).
You remember right, according to the giant polls at Anime Planet, Shou Tucker is the most hated character in all of anime, and has held that title against all challengers for 20 years. And you're spot on about Ed's shame and grief. He's carrying so much guilt about what happened, and that makes him really vulnerable to Tucker's bullshit comparison. Two quick manga things: there's a great Al moment in the manga that didn't make it into the show, when he stops Ed from killing Tucker. Tucker starts to say something and Al quietly, politely says basically "I'm protecting Ed, not you. Shut up or I'll kill you myself." The other is that Scar doesnt say "two human souls," he says "two souls." Fans like to believe he's praying for Nina and Alexander, not Nina and Tucker.
There are always 2 types of people when watching episode 4: the summer children who had no idea what they're getting into, and the ones who know and get a kick out of the first type's reactions
In the original 2003 version the scene was even worse. In that version Tucker had no reason to do it, he knew he would be arrested and executed if he did it but also just didn't want to go back on the street, so he just decided to do it to see if he could. Also instead of Al stopping Ed from punching Tucker, Nina stops him by biting his coat. You also got 2 episodes with Nina and Alexander in the 2003 version as well. This English version also has a mistranslation, at 14:07 instead of "Two human souls" he actually just says "Two souls" he never says human because he is talking about Nina and Alexander, not Tucker, who is the only character who dies and is shown being dragged to hell in the Manga instead of ascending to heaven. This episode and the last are kind of pair. The last episode showed the extremes of religion going to far and this one shows science going to far. EDIT: Never mind you mentioned that lol
In 2003, Tucker said he didn’t know what he was going to do - that’s when Al suggested he make another talking chimera. Which puts it as a burden on Al even more so.
and don't forget how the brothers discover what is left of nina, idk how they managed to get that image through in a kid's show. brotherhood only watchers do not know what pain really is, how much trauma a human can endure from a single scene.
What was worse in my opinion about 2003 was that the interaction between the boys and Tucker and Nina was prolonged and Tucker was not as instantly seen as evil...those episodes hurt more in 2003. FMA or FMAB...he's still a piece of sh!t
Context about Shou Tucker. Reactors rarely notice this context but it helps to understand this for later. State Alchemists conduct resarch for the military and provide their research data on Assessment Day. Their findings then get fed to other teams that expand on the research.

I'm in the middle of an episode of south park, but I subscribed to you guys purely to see your reaction to this episode. I am hyped. for the next half hour of my day. Yes I am that guy :P
I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything from this channel but I saw ur thumbnail and had to say something. It’s just 😙👌💜. I just instantly knew that one of u is a first time watcher and the other is thoroughly enjoying spreading the trauma around😂. I’m gonna comeback and watch but wanted to comment before I forgot💜💜
wanna say, just found your channel and I am loving the dynamic. You both come off as very likeable and you're expressive without going overboard and seeming insincere, also reacting to 2 of the best animes out there at the moment in my opinion. For this one in particular I'm loving the dynamic of 1 person who has seen it and 1 who hasn't. I'm wondering, will you be coming out with Patreon or some way to see the full unedited version of these and also will you be sticking to anime, or will you branch out into western animation and live action and will you take requests? whatever your plans looking forward to where this channel goes, you got a sub from me :)
That was really thoughtful to say, thank you! To answer your questions: Patreon is a current goal, and full unedited, timer-based reactions would be great to have on there. We will let everyone know once that is live. As for western animation and live action, we are down to watch anything. For example, Arcane season 2 is something we want to record for the channel this fall. Show requests are also welcome. I see the standard for other channels is to do polls on YT or Patreon of suggested shows, so that's a possible way to go about things for future series. Thank you again for the nice comment, and we are glad to have you on board :)
Can you imagine watching this at 8y/o for the first time? That was me. Edit: specifically, the second dosc of the 2003 vers. Episodes 5-8. This was the Train Hijacking, Tucker Family, State Certification, Barry the Chopper Abducting Winry In A Meat Truck, and Scar's Introduction episodes.
I saw this on my suggested, and my first thought was "oh no, oh no, oh no" I just had to watch this video, just because some is watching this specific episode for the first time, i think
At an anime convention, there was a panel on what it would take to bring cat girls into the real world. Short answer: unethical science. It was a clever way to expose anime nerds to some pretty dense science including genetics and genetic engineering. The panelist offered an award for asking "the most f'ed up question"-it was a framed picture of Tucker.
This is always a rough episode, but it is also a great one, as it does resonate with pretty much everyone. In good news, it can't really get worse from here! Get a good hug, eat some good food, and enjoy a little of life. The best of things can only be the best in contrast to the worst.
another note, with how this is one of the best dubbed anime out there...think of how many people who encountered THIS as their FOURTH episode of ANY ANIME in their lives.
FMAB definitely over-foreshadows Tucker's villainy. In the original series, you are given multiple episodes with the Tucker family, and the twist hits a lot harder emotionally. But, FMAB puts this back-to-back with the Father Cornello episode, which the two of them together is very important for the show overall, thematically.
The distrust probably comes from the fact that Shou is drawn with obscured eyes most of the time. Manga authors like to obscure the eyes of characters that are being untrustworthy/shady.
Congratulations. You've officially passed your first major test on your journey through Alchemy. How's your heart and soul feel. Dont let up, keep going, you have more to learn. More to give.
Mr. Tucker was right he and ed did a human transmutation and ed knew it was forbidden but he wants to try as far as he can. The only difference is the intention or motive.
This was a shocking episode, not sure your maniacal giggle helps! There is a reason Shou Tucker always makes lists of most dispicable characters in anime.
in the manga/ jp scar says "two souls" have been returned. not specifying Human or not, interpreting that nina and alexander were the souls. ands tucker was not
I'm sure she saw nina and alexander somewhere but ignored them because she didn't know about them. It won't be the same after this. She'll remember this feeling everytime she will see them.
When Tucker lies to the boys about when his wife left him and him becoming a state alchemist, Nina says: "If those people do tell you no, me and Alexander will growl at them untill they say yes." Clearly this gave Tucker an idea...
One thing to notice, episode 3 is what happens when you blindly follow religion. Episode 4 is what happens when you blindly follow science. . . . . . “science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind” -Albert Einstein
I'm amazed at how quickly she picked up on Tucker's bad vibes - I think the show does a good job of portraying him as just a struggling dad, the only real red flag I've seen people pick up on in the past is when he pushes up his glasses and it hides his eyes. Classic anime villain move.
muy buena escena. pero la versión anterior a Brotherhood, es aun mas desgarradora. y ame su reacción, creo q todos los q la vimos por primera vez no sabíamos como sentirnos.
There is sth wrong with the translation, in japanese Scar actually said "two souls return to the god", which means Nina and the dog, Tucker goes to hell
