Pinako Rockbell herself is an accomplished automail engineer (most likely retired), well known in her industry. Her son and daughter in law (Winry's parents) were accomplished doctors and/or surgeons. Winry devotes herself to being automail engineer. Now whether she always loved automail or she is doing it for Ed, I am not entirely sure. And Ed's automail limbs are Winry's design. Her grandma helped in the fabrication and fitting in the workshop she (Pinako) owns. You saw the workshop in episode 2. The next episode, 6, will showcase the workshop again. Winry has proper exposure to both automail and medical fields, so she is perfect to be Ed's personal mechanic.
Winry was still pretty young, but she did enough work to tell Ed it was "her" Automail when he first transmuted it. I'm sure Pinako was looking over her shoulder the whole time.
this version of this episode was more emotional especially when Al yells at Ed for almost letting Scar kill him. it was even funnier when Al's arm falls off and he lashes out at Ed for being and I quote "a Big Fat Idiot"
One small detail I really love is that after Eds arm is destroyed, he falls down because he goes to lean on the now missing arm. Hes so used to having it. Hes a badass and we see him do cool things but he is a disabled person and its just a little reminder of how dependent he is on his automail.
