Appreciate you breaking it down the way you did and explaining what things were and such. Huge help for me anyway. I hope others were able to get some good info from this video.👍👍👍
Love that the Scout II surprised you. You been having too much fun with Optimus 2 and your lightweight! Give more love to the Scout II and Keep on Truckin'!
Your my go to on reviewing upgrades brother! Holmes are very capable an under estimated motors! Unbelievable torque! Nice drive'n. Always a pleasure brother!
The Trailmaster is a great, cheap, motor. But the difference between them and the handwound motors is night and day! If you can afford it, the higher end motors are worth it. Side note, Holmes is in the process of getting a 5 slot motor similar to the Trailmaster Sport into production. I'm hoping it will be ready by the end of the year. 😁
@@ExocagedRC yeah, after experiencing the 5 slot magic that is in the AE Enduro, I am seriously considering going back to brushed in the majority of my rigs LOL
Henry Brimmer yeah, some of mine will stay brushed like the Gen8, except for testing videos anyways. The Superlite will stay brushed too but I’m tempted to try out a small revolver combo, the noise is why I don’t want to do that one.
Exocaged RC what remote are u using? I also have a gen 8 I am trying to get to bind with a fly sky gt3b receiver put I cannot get it to program the throttle nutral forward and reverse for some odd reason, I had a HH 21 t motor and I had the wires solders directly to the motor
Good review! Always like how you show the power and speed using different batteries. Question, would that motor be considered to be running in reverse orientation or normal?
Great video as usual. Can you explain the performance difference between 35T, 21T, 12T ? Traxxas use 21T and is a great motor, Axial use a 35T and is great too... your video explains that also 12T may be great. The question is: T number is relevant or motor may be good only depending on quality and a good project behind ?
Most OEM trucks are 3 slot motors, the one he was running is a 5 slot. The turn count on 3vs5 slots are not the same. Generally speaking, a 5 slot will have about half the turns for the same speed. The higher the turn count, the slower it will run. You also have to look at it it is a 540 or 550 can motor, as that will affect the comparison as well.
Giove Fix ok I’ll give this a try. Hope this is accurate. Comparing motors of one size is easier than comparing motors of different sizes. A 21t 540 will have higher rpm but lower torque than a 21t 550. Also 3 slot has higher rpm but lower startup control than the 5-Slot. This is why you see guys running a 540 size 35t with wheel speed, if that were a 550 5-slot 35t, it would move like a snail. It’s the same way with brushless motors too. Also as I’ve been told the 27t is the sweet spot for a 540 motor and 21t for the 550 motor, both being 3 slot, by sweet spot I’m referring to power and efficiency. With the 5 slot 540 motors it’s 13t and 550 motors are 10t.
Ok I see! It is kinda violent but very fun. I really need 2 of those spacers you 3d printed to shim the yoke on the transfer case input and trans output
Got the motor today. It's easy to modulate with the HW 1080 and seems strong but the dragbrake is a disappointment. It doesn't hold the truck any better than the stock Titan. 🤔
looks like some of his distributors have them in stock on ebay rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm570.l1313%26_nkw%3Dholmes%2Bhobbies%2Bcrawlmaster%2B550%26_sacat%3D0&campid=5338273090&toolid=20008
Spazkill the 10t may be close. What slows these motors down is the 5-slot design, but that same design gives it incredible low end control. The Gen8 has a lot of reduction even with the stock pinion. This motor is a major upgrade IMO over the traxxas motor.
Appreciate you breaking it down the way you did and explaining what things were and such. Huge help for me anyway. I hope others were able to get some good info from this video.👍👍👍
Wow what a great motor. Amazing torque. When race season is do I think I'm finally gonna put one in my crawler.Great video.
I've used Holmes Hobbies for a while now and I'm a big fan, great review.

The Houleigan yeah sometimes it sits on the sidelines when I have newer stuff.
@@ExocagedRC I get that, can only drive one at a time!

thank you and yeah his stuff is THE best out there
Cool !!!! Perfect hiking speed
No drowning or loading, looks to be a nice motor for sure!!
yeah dude its instant, almost like brushless
I was thinking of using a trailmaster 21T in my Gen8. I have one in my Gen7, but now you have given me something to think about.
JMHZ2401 well the difference in price is $80 but this Crawlmaster is awesome.

More T's in motor is more slowly, and more slowly is more control in crawling. I like it. 👍🤙👍
Albert RC Crawler with the HolmesHobbies motors that’s not completely true . The 13t is a 5 slot and has about the same speed as a 35t
This was really great.! Awesome video, lots of information.!
Nice the 550 are beast I have TM but have been wanting a CM
John Roddy man the TM is a great motor but this is on another level.
Very interesting thanks for the great video
NC MOUNTAINS 👍 sweet!! Motor...
Great video dude, hi from Costa Rica,
I'm not selling anything right now, sorry
Exocaged RC it’s ok dude thanks and keep the channel growing it a excellent channel
Excellent combo, 1080 is outstanding ESC, Crawlmaster is a good motor, ¿what timing you use?
Juan Marichal it’s timed at 0 degrees.

I thought Traxxas recommends a 21T motor it greater? Looks like this motor worked out.
Great Video. Liked and Subbed.
Question on Gen 8 vs Gen 7 is the 8 a better rig than the 7 besides the portal axles ?
Moto Joe I think so, if you’re a scale guy the front motor trans and tcase makes it worth it.
@@ExocagedRC Thank you will keep it in mind when I decide to get a new rig
what tires ? they look firm
Do you ever get any snakes in you rock trail ?
Good review! Always like how you show the power and speed using different batteries.
Question, would that motor be considered to be running in reverse orientation or normal?
noah buoy in the Gen8 the motor runs in the normal direction. If it’s used in a Trx it will be running reversed.
Great video all of there motors are great
Did you paint the Top from the inside or outside ?
I see ya got a new radio... Any good Jim?
yeah thats the GT5, its a bit much for this truck but its in there so it will stay until I put it in something else.

Sweet 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
They also make a 10 turn a little faster
John Roddy yeah, if I get one of these for me it will be the 10t for sure.
Exocaged RC yeah need wheel speed
I put a titan 12t in my gen8 on 2s its much faster than that for some reason. It actually started to strip trans gear so I pulled it out
Hmm odd. Maybe this one could be a bit milder due to 0 timing. The traxxas motors have timing and can be a bit rough on startup.
Ok I see! It is kinda violent but very fun. I really need 2 of those spacers you 3d printed to shim the yoke on the transfer case input and trans output
John Adams you can use normal shims if you have them. If not I think I still have the file to print.
Ok I'll try some washers maybe? I really appreciate all the help and your videos kick ass!
John Adams yeah you can try washers but they are usually too large, let me know if you need them I found the file. Thanks.
