Bad Time has become my favorite Trio song!! Such cool fucking lyrics
I. Love. That. Song.
I think rhe Green Day album is great, with some skips and some killer songs. But the A3 album is amazing. It wins.
Matt Skiba being in blink helped alk3 grow in popularity for sure.
Maybe a little. Most Blink fans didn't like Matt tho...
@@thepunkrockreview If anything, it made me like Blink more. But I started as an AK3 fan, sooooo...
The punk rock circle is more understanding and can usually withstand opinions. Thank God.
I mean, gonread the comments on my videos and you'll see that maybe isn't true. I was hoping to have a less sensitive group on my channel but maybe I was wrong. Especially Strung Out fans, bunch of babies. 🤷🏻 Oh well, it is what it is
I literally agree with everything you said about the Trio album, starting with the horrible beginning of Versions of You, down to Bad Time and Hot for Preacher, being SOOOOOOOO GOOD!! I also love Scars, Dan's best one on it and love the Skiba background vocals in the chorus. I definitely put this album in Trios' top 5 ( not including comps like Remains and S/T ).
Matt totally came out swining on this record, from the lyrics to limiting the power chords, damn, this album is wicked good!!! 🤘
Thank you, I was very thoughtful on my comments about the record
Pablo Picasso is widely quoted as having said that “good artists borrow, great artists steal.” The Ramones took from the Beach Boys, The Clash took from The Beatles, Kobe took from Jordan... Green Day and Alkaline are some of the greats and they both know how to do it.
Wisely spoke! I'm working on the Spider-Punk video right now. Hopefully drop it Monday
@@thepunkrockreview I'll be there 👊
The first question was very valid , but in all honestly , a punk band doesn’t have a specific sound , a punk band doesn’t have to be less popular and even if critics , or people who write reviews say it’s a sub genre , well , that’s all relevant only to the people who believe what critics say , maybe I did believe that when I was younger , but not anymore .
Many bands that doesn’t sound at all like your typical punk rock sound are more punk rock than the so-called “real ones”. Of course everything is subjective in the end . If a listener says “this is a punk rock record “ than it is .
AK has the better record in my personal opinion , I especially love the production on this album .
Super proud of both bands. Two amazing records. I think I’ll go with Saviors right now, but BH&E might be the best album they’ve ever made, and that’s saying something.
Green Day is my all-time favorite band, Alkaline might be my number 3 after the Beatles... so no matter what, i love both of these albums.
Ain't nothing wrong with walking a fence in a conversation like this, lol 👊
I have a friend that refers to this as "actively listening". I used to listen to music the same way when I was little. Following the lyrics while I'm listening and really taking in every bit of the music. Lately, most music is consumed by putting something on in the background while you're doing something and maybe something from it will catch your ear. Getting music on a physical medium really does help with immersing yourself. Sure, I'll listen to a lot of things just from a stream, but I have to wonder if it would hit the same if I listened to it differently.
Oh it absolutely hits different if you listen different ways. It completely change your opinion of a song or band
Alkaline Trio is my favorite band and BHE is definitely in my top 3 favorites, it might be my second favorite in-between Goddamnit and Crimson. You are so right about the guitar on this record, it sounds fucking incredible. I am so so excited to see them live in March!
Yeah I'll be seeing them in April? Shoot, maybe Feb... I can't remember
I'd say 8.5 for AK3 and 7.5 for Green Day. Solid releases
Very respectable grades!
With ya on BH&E, damn good record and early AOTY contender for me. Each song has some killer instrumentation so it never drops the ball. Cursed was good but this is the return to form we wanted.
Alkaline trio no question. Green day has released more bad stuff than good in recent years.
I'm not understanding how people can really likr the new green day it's so mediocre compared to their past.
Rev radio was their last best album in my opinion
I agree top 5 ak3 album for sure! i love the beat with shake with me and that one is probably my favorite on the album. Alkaline trio definitely revisited their roots with this album, not so sure i can say the same with green day. Best way I can sum it up is this...the new green day album made me want to go listen to dookie, while the new alkaline trio album just made me want to listen to the new alkaline trio album!
Im a big fan of green day...but this álbum of alkaline trio has pushed aside saviors...I never have listened to alkaline trio in my hole life so this a game changer...im 40 years old
Oh wow, I wish I could discover A3 again...
And it's always alkaline trio!!!
Green Day's absolutely knocks it out of the park. Easy W for them
Have you heard both albums? Seriously asking
@thepunkrockreview I have! I'm always biased for Green Day and never listen to A3 but I heard a lot of hype around this album, gave it a go and it's a good listen, but doesn't blow me away at all.
Whereas with Saviors, even though I don't love every single track on it, there's a lot of good stuff on it that just gets it done for me. Just my opinion of course
I really enjoyed the new Green Day and was listening to that a lot. Then Trio dropped and holy cow! I've have only dabbled in them before, and after listening to their new one I apparently love Alkaline Trio now .. Break will not leave my brain. Such a good album
Are you familiar with their older records at all?
@@thepunkrockreview Nah not super. I have liked radio and that's about it... Not even sure why Trio never hit with me.. I used to be mates with a guy who loved them... And I love the misfits and Gaslight Anthem and Against me!
So it makes no sense..
Glad I've fallen in love with them now.
Green day ve lot of filler, A3 all songs are ace. Cant deny!!
This is easy for me. That greenday album isnt for me. It has one great song, the rest is filler, in my opinion. They haven't really made a great album since nimrod. Alk3 for me is the easy pick.
The new Green Day songs are like 90% chorus, Alk3 all the way
I noticed that too, actually. Not necessarily bothered by it, but a lot of repetition
Just listened to both back to back. With Alkaline Trio, the songs have mostly a similar pacing / beat, and are more complex than Green Day... They shred more and deliver more sustained energy. If I'm working out or driving, I'd prefer BH&E. All songs sound good, and there are memorable phrases and riffs, but if you asked me to sing any of the songs, I couldn't, because there are similar elements from other songs. With more listens and actively listening, I'm sure I'll learn the differences and be able to sing along at some point. (Maybe it's because I've also been listening to 5 other new-to-me Alkaline Trio albums with shuffle play.)
Saviors has more differentiation between the songs. The tempos are different, and slower, with more negative space between, which makes the songs more catchy. The lyrics hit harder due to the simpler song sructures with more power chords. This music is made for singing along at concerts. It's not bad for working out or driving either. The lyrics are simpler and repetitive, but with metaphors that leave me wondering. Bobby Sox, with very simple lyrics, could be interpreted 3 or 4 different ways. I don't like this album as much as American Idiot, but maybe as much as or more than 21st Century Breakdown. However it's more catchy than AI. Corvette Summer is close to a skip for me. Father to a Son sounds a lot like The Beatles to me, and although I appreciate the sentiment, it doesn't do much for me and I never liked the Beatles. Fancy Sauce also starts out as a straight up Beatles song, but it works for me, and I like the lyrics a lot actually - "stupid and contagious" has a triple meaning for me - a nod to Cobain and also a commentary about social media and the politics of the day along with "everyone is famous". "We all die young someday" is a simple phrase but hits me hard. I knew a few people that have died, and every one of them died young in their own minds with unfinished goals. It's the curse of mortality summed up in a phrase.
So yeah, both really good albums. For me, Green Day leads at this point, but I may well tire of it faster than Alkaline Trio.
Late to the party but it’s no question. Hands down alkaline trio
I 100% agree
IMO Saviors is a great “Power Pop” record sorta like what GD has morphed their sound into post AI but I’m gonna give the best to AT just because I like more straight up punk more both albums are good tho
I don't consider the new Alkaline Trio album a punk album, but it definitely is the better of the two. At least to me.
Alkaline Trio by far.
Agreed
Ok I'm sorry I gotta say it. The alkaline trio album has a lot of emo and pop roots to it. Not a bad thing but yes the green day album is obviously guilty of the same but Id say Green Days album is my fav but then again I'm a huge Green Day fan. Alkaline Trio made a great record I have to say. I guess I never paid attention to the emo and pop influence to it all but I know both bands even with pop and emo influence 10 years ago or further still had a more heavier punk vibe.Just an opinion and seeing if anyone agrees.
I mean, I doubt anyone would argue that. These aren't even really "punk rock records", more or less rock albums
I haven't finished the video yet, but I'm in some agreement about Green Day. It's a good record, but do I think because Father Of All... was hated so much this record feels better then it actually is. It does feel like a nostalgia cash grab. Still a good record tho
This guy gets it
Alkaline trio all day long
Agreed
The new alkaline trio .. my first listen sounded like the living end, but i love it
Saviors for me, the ALK3 album just don't "clicked" at me. I like IITC way more than this one.
I mean, everyone likes what they like! Did you mean, Is This Thing Cursed?
@@thepunkrockreview Yes, that album just blow my expectation back in 2018
A3 wins. Green Day haven't delivered for me for decades. And I haven't been playing A3 for years. This album brought me back. It hooked me from the get go. No skips, with so much depth in the music and lyrical matter. It's not just a great A3 trio but a GREAT album. And that rich production on that album, sweet as feck! 😊
The production is really good on A3, this album is really good
Yeah this was one of their best for sure. Good Mourning is a classic and this for me holds up
I’ve been a Green Day fan since I was 13. When you’re a real fan, you’re easy to please. I like Father of All and I still listen to it. I bought it both CD and on iTunes. At the same time, I even objectively argue that a lot of the criticism and hate that there is for the last two Green Day albums are close-minded. They were both great records.
If you care more about the genre and the ideological rules of that genre, you’re not a fan. Being a fan is more about the artist than the art itself.
I'm not sure who this comment is for...
@@thepunkrockreview It is generally speaking.
I haven't been into what Green Day has been putting out on their last few albums. I did give Saviours a listen, but wasn't feeling it. Some songs I liked more than others. Maybe coulda been a stronger album if they had cut 4 or so tracks. Too many skips as is. Wasn't bad, but just wasn't for me. However, the new Alkaline Trio is amazing and been on repeat the last few days. Not a single skip track for me.
Literally the exact same thing I said about them 👊
lol. I'm hearing that now. I just wrote that on initially starting the vid. @@thepunkrockreview
Alkaline trio is definitely the better album probably one of their best in a while green day's new one is good but I haven't liked alot of their work since I hated American idiot
I was highly impressed with both albums! I give the edge to Green Day because their last few albums were garbage IMO, whereas the last couple AK3 albums were really good, so I wasn’t expecting much from Saviors.
FOAMF > Saviors
all day every day
Alkaline Trio for sure - and it's a record that just gets better the more you sit with it.
I agree? It's quickly becoming a record I may spend a lot of time with and it could become a classic
Alkaline Trios album was amazing, Also alk3 seems like their personallity is better. Green Day are dickheads
Oh word? I always thought Green Day seemed like cool people...
What's your partner's name and channel?
Man that's my DAWG! His name is Rob and he runs @thepunkaughts
Have both albums, with multiple listens. I'm 53, and have liked Green Day from 1994 - 2007 mainly (not impressed with their stuff after that until Saviors, but loved American Idiot). Just started to listen to Alkaline Trio this year, and have heard 7 albums now, so it's like diving into the deep end of the pool. To me, Alkaline Trio sound 80% similar to The Cure with some U2 influence also. The similarity to The Cure is eerie to me, even in singing style. They sound similar between songs, due to the use of the rhythm guitar and the vocals which are more even keeled and more cerebral. Green Day have more pronounced differences song to song, and sound more catchy / poppy, with more starting/stopping and blank space. In recent years Green Day have tried to sound too much like The Beatles which turned me off. Although I still hear the wannabe Beatles in Saviors, they do it well in Saviors. I think Billy Joe really tries to isolate the vocals to make them stand out, but it's a fine line between that and trying too hard. Not sure which album I like better...it kind of depends on my mood. I like both.
I don't think A3 "sounds like The Cure" at all. I can hear influences, but it's not that similar. Maybe it's bc I hate that band, I dunno
Some examples of The Cure similarity:
ruclips.net/video/scif2vfg1ug/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/Rel8ZWkNNlM/видео.html
If either of these songs was on an Alkaline Trio album (or vice versa) I would have a hard time telling the difference.
Lol nah bro. I mean, I can hear some influences in general, but absolutely don't see how you can say those songs are interchangeable with A3. Not even a little.
@@thepunkrockreview Well that was my first impression anyway. Alkaline is faster for sure, but I tend to ignore the rhythm guitar somewhat and focus more on the melody and vocals. It's probably also different for someone just starting to listen to a bunch of their stuff for the first time vs. someone who has heard each album as it came out.
Not a big Green Day fan but there is no way the new album is better than dookie 😂. Alk3 are far better. Their new album is great but From here to infirmary smokes any Green Day album ever made on any planet.
I'm not a big fan of Dookie, never have been. I'd rather hear Saviors, personally
@@thepunkrockreviewinsomniac is their best work in my opinion
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I hope people actually watch this and listen to what we're saying 🤣🤣🤣
No offense to Green Day fans. Just couldn't get into that album. But ALK3 BHE was valid! That said, I'm glad GD is still kicking it for the fans! Keep us moving until they throw dirt on us!
I like this comment
Green Day is the best band od the world and the best last album ever!!!
😬
It's Alkaline Trios.. Not sure what the fuss is about GDs imo it's no better than much of the other stuff they've released, certainly no where near any of their best work. I was surprised at all the fuss it's gotten tbh. Good pr I suppose. Trios is easily up for rock album of the year
So, I talked about exactly why there's a fuss about this album in the podcast. It's bc people hate FOAMF so much that any decent effort from the band was going to be celebrated to a ridiculous degree
A brief comment: I loved 1981 and Suzie Chapstick, I think the weaker tracks in Saviors are Fancy Sauce and Father to a son
You're not wrong, but I didn't care for any of those
A3 released a banger. But i disagree because punk isnt pure sound. A punk record is spirit. You dont need to be pissed or balls to the wall speed to be punk.
In order to be punk rock, you do, though. They can be punk as people and make a rock record. Not that complicated.
Dude theres a female duo band that just came out called grrrizzy... check it out now!! they are to me kick ass!!!!!
Checked it out, not for me bro. Sorry
Alkaline wins hands down... GD has been glitter for along time.
I agree that A3 wins, but what did you mean by "GD has been glitter for a long time"?
Alkaline trio all day, I love old school Green Day but this new album wasn’t great.
Green Day 100%
Did you hear both?
@@thepunkrockreview yeah. Punk fans have been getting a lot of good stuff lately.
Green Day!
Green Day

What's your favorite song off the album?
@@thepunkrockreview probably strange days are here to stay or bobby sox
@@thepunkrockreview 1981, Strange days, look ma no brains, Dilemma and Suzy Chapstick
Alkaline trio. Fuck green day
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Damn fuck Green Day naw why you so mad how about fuck you GreenDay is the goat
Show me in this doll where Green Day hurt your little feelings
I second that
Greenday . fuck alkaline trio
Green day has Weezer syndrome, and has only released one good album. They suck now, and have basically always sucked.
😬 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
he said Adam is an upgrade from Derek 😂. You're obviously not a drummer with that take. These are some of the worse takes I've heard on any album. Both albums are mediocre. Green Day for sure had a better, polished product. Trios album sounds awful. It's like they recorded underwater. It feel likes my speakers are about to explode. I have to turn it down and I've listened on multiple stereo and also headphones. Skiba recycles a bunch of harmonies and melody's from previous albums. He rips him self off multiple times on certain songs. I could go on forever. Agony is better than this album and I don't listen to that album besides some of Adrianos tracks. You guys must have been all sorts of drugs when listening to the new trio.
😬 you sound super fun! But yeah man, feel how you feel about it
Where's the punk rock?
All over the place
