Hello and welcome to another edition of SUMO PRIME TIME. Time flies, doesn’t it? It’s December and only two weeks to go before the new year arrives. In sumo all 6 grand tournaments are now in the books in 2023. We saw the births of two new Ozeki this year as well as many young up-and-comers rising to the occasion to take center stage. Who were the standouts in 2023? And who failed to meet their expectations? The show sums up the entire 2023 sumo action and offer projections for the upcoming year. Hope you enjoy the 2023 SUMO YEARBOOK. Arigato as always for watching and supporting our channel.

Thank you Hiro and the JSA for having this english language channel. I started watching sumo right after Hakuho retired and I missed out on some great bouts but 2023 was an exciting year and hope 2024 is even better. Thank you.

Can't wait to see hakuoho make a comeback & atamifujis rise to the top ranks, i have no doubt they will both become great ozeki if not Yokozuna. I hope hoshoryu can work on his stability, man is a monster. I forsee kirishima as the next yokozuna but the others are not far behind

I started watching sumo in the July tournament and I fell in love with it. The main reason for watching it was Hakuoho epic rise, and after the injury that role was filled by Atamifuji. Super excited to see them both growing and becoming the future of sumo!

Kotowanaka has been very consistent scoring winning tournaments all year long. He comes from a line of sumo wrestlers; father was sekiwake, grandfather was Yokozuna- no pressure there!! He has good potential to keep going up the professional ladder!👍🙏🙂

I’d call takakeisho the greatest ozeki of our time. He may never get the rope but he’s fulfilled his obligations as ozeki.
I expect Terunofuji will fight and win one more tournament before retiring. He won’t reach 10 championships as his body will give out.

January is Kirby's best chance; no Hahuoho and 99% chance of no competing yokozuna....he needs to get'r done!
Cotton O'Waka has to make Ozeki first; he has to stop losing a few "easy matches" every basho.
If Kirby doesn't pull it off in January, I'm going with Natto's Golden Boy as next yokozuna.

Merry 🎄🎅 and a Happy 🎆 Hiro-san and Sumo Prime Time. Looking back this year when Takakeishō and Kirishima (formerly Kiribayama) have two championships each; Takakeishō in January and September, and Kirishima in March and November, plus Hoshoryū defeated Hakuohō and Hokutofuji in July, through a two-way playoff. And Ōzeki promotions for Kirishima and Hoshoryū, this marks the race of rikishi wrestlers to Ōzeki. The last one is Yokozuna Terunofuji on his return in May, with his championship by the defeating Kirishima (formerly Kiribayama) and Takakeishō in the last two days of May tourney. I hope that things will come in sumo this 2024 and for Kirishima to become the next Yokozuna. Thank you and arigato.
